BlessedMD2:
Hello people, greetings

So for the little information I have for now, here it goes....

I arrived Calgary safe and without any hassle, when I say no hassle, my time spent at Poe was about 2 minutes tops.
Got in, settled down and my search began for an ob/gyn

It wasn't easy as everyone I called asked if I had insurance because they can't accept cash payments.

I finally got a referral to a Dr at Foothils hospital Calgary Alberta.

I visited the first time and for the first visit I paid $180 cad, and subsequent visits will be 60cad.
Then he examined me and said all is well and from the tests results I brought(thanks to informants here, God bless you all) that I won't be needing any more tests. Im due in June 2017 by their calculations/report, but by God's grace I'm praying for my specific due date grin during my safe period in Jesus name amen.

Now to the part that amazed me undecided he gave me a break down of his fees.

Dr fee 5000cad(this excludes all your prenatal check ups oh! Hmmm. Well I have just a few checks IF I will use him)
Hospital 4765cad
Baby 1968
Epidural 1500 cad
Hospital admittance fee 865
tongue

I was speechless cos everything he told me is completely different from what I have been reading here though it's not specifically on Calgary doctors, but I did a rough estimate from findings here.

I got home, called rocky view hospital and they said their hospital fee is 3488 and baby is 1968cad, that they have no idea about doctors fee, that I would have to get a dr to know that and the epidural fee too.

So here I am thinking if I should "jejely go to the aarmrika" or keep searching or go to another state cos I'm tired cos we budgeted 6k for everything.

Advice my people. Thanks and God bless you all

Greetings.
Did you eventually use the Dr from foothills? If no, where did you go?
This 'no healthcard ' is bothersome!
How long did you stay before going back to Nigeria?

Thanks!

Hi everyone. Firstly I have to thank everyone on here. The information you have all provided has been extremely helpful to say the least. I have been reading through this thread since January from the very 1st page and I must say that a great job is being done with the updates on development with doctors and hospitals status on birthing non-residents.

Armed with the info I got off here I applied for visas for my wife and I in March through the online route and got our approval last week (March 7 - April 17). Great news!

Now, the question I have pertains to next steps to be taken. I am really confused and I think it might be due to so much information on here. What is the procedure exactly? Do I contact doctors who will then refer me to hospitals? Or vice-versa? Do we wait until we get to Canada to find walk-in centers who then refer us to a doctor and then a hospital? Or is there something I am missing?

I got in touch with an agency that assist in making this arrangement but I figured why not try to figure it out myself. Last agent I dealt with wanted to assist me in procuring our visas and requested for a ridiculous $1500 for the process and I was livid. I immediately started the visa process myself and thank God it worked out! So you guys and the internet are my last hope!

I'm sorry if this seems like I am repeating an already explained issue. If any one can assist I would be really grateful.

Thanks!

@twhizzy from my understanding, you have to get to Cananda and walk into a clinic/ hospital, there they will refer you to a gynea who will take up care from there. I stand to be corrected.
Did you indicate medical in your application?
Can you list what and what you submitted?
Do you have travel history?
Too many questions, sorry o

Thanks for this @ozycy. Going through the thread again now. In case I may have skipped over any useful info.

I have a younger sibling schooling in Canada so I applied for visiting visa to see her. I had already made plans to have my mum and wife go visit her in Canada already so I didn't indicate medical in my application.

When going through the online route you have forms to fill and they give you list of documents to submit.

I submitted loads of document.

Statement of accounts, Letters from my office stating my pay grade, Payslips from my office, travel history (passports, Visas, Entry and Exit Stamps), my sister's passport and school ID, Letter of Invite from my sister, Birth certificate of both my sister and I (to show we are indeed siblings), My mom's passport and her Canadian Visa (I indicated in the forms that she would be travelling too), Hotel Reservation, Certificate of Marriage.

Yes I have travel history. Plenty sef! Lol

Hope this helps.

Hi twhizzy, from my understanding from this site, a relative can refer you to a family doctor who then refers you to a hospital.

Another update! Another stress free finding I found out.

Now instead of getting naija passport or travel document from here, u can just get Visa on Arrival for the newborn. Its a new service Naija started .

https://portal.immigration.gov.ng/VisaArrivalProgram/freshVisaOnArrivalProgram

Make sure to use a desktop or laptop.

And yes, i know someone that used it last week so it works and they are in Naija now without hassle .

As you guys can see, I am not a lazy Nigerian youth and deserve some accolade smiley

Hey @hotstepper and all you guys helping out here. I read through all your post before applying for Canadian Visa in March. I'm surprised to read through the update about difficulty getting a doctor.

We applied through the online route and after 38 days got a passport submission request. The first part haven't been accomplished, over to the second part.

Can anyone suggest the best option to get a doctor, my wife has free accommodation in Ottawa. Any recommendation or suggestion around the area.
Also should i be bothered about the POE experience as we didn't state anything about childbirth in the visa application?

@Hotstepper, Thanks for this.

@all, What is the true cost for Visa on arrival in Nigeria? I called Nigeria Immigration Service in Abuja. I was told it's $160 per visa and that the approval letter/email costs nothing. But I've seen various visa amount qouted by others and some cost to the approval letter.

Can anyone kindly confirm the experience with visa on arrival at MMA?

Good evening people

Please my wife was denied the Canadian visitor Visa on Thursday, The reasons they gave in the letter was that she might not come back to Nigeria

I would like to find out if we can appeal and the procedure to follow.

The amount you pay depends on what country you had your baby.I had my baby in Canada and I paid 90dollars.For babies born in the U.S., there's are higher as it depends on d country of birth.

No amount is required for d email sent.Once u arrive Nigeria, you're required to present d email and den make payment.

I hope dis info is useful.

Hello.

Havnt been on here in quite a while and it appears that btwn when i left and now there's really nothing new. I felt like I kept hitting stumbling blocks while researching into Canada birth tourism and concluded that Canada is not as embracing of birth tourism as USA is. I am now tilting towards returning to USA to have my baby since I had my 1st there and I still have an existing visa. Both my siblings and cousins in Canada also gave same advise as every enquiry they made was met with a no insurance, no taking client answer, and yes, most were rude and uncooperative. am not ready to go thru any emotional or psychological stress applyin for a visa, travellin to Canada and then start looking for a doctor and hospital. I just cant take that kind of risk. so here I am currently looking into hospitals in queens New york area. back on the giving birth in usa thread for more info on this.

manlikegb:

@Eilenora, No foul play. I called Dr Abou and the secretary said they do not accept cash payment anymore and she was even kinda rude and hung up eventually. Do you know if your contact in Canada who made the call on your behalf spoke to the Secretary or was able to speak with the doctor himself.

Any luck with finding another Dr that accepts cash yet?
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Eilenora: 6:15pm On May 15, 2018
Hotstepper is it Dr. Nayla u were refering to in your post below?

Hotstepper:

I just called the dr now and they are not taking cash patients anymore.

I got one though aftee serious begging for those that are going to Brampton.

Apprently they have all had the experience, thus why they dont anymore . This one warned me that payment must me made at 1st apppt nd muat also pay hospital bills
