naptu2: Now about the repatriation process. You can talk of repatriating people who are aliens, or non citizens. Can a Nigerian be an alien in his own country? Especially when the money that Lagos depends on could very well be from the deportees home in the creeks of the Niger Delta. Talk of robbing one in the name of Nationhood and denying same the very same Nationhood. Lagos without oil money and the consumption power of the rest of Nigeria is nothing but a ghost town. 3 Likes |

KenGali: You can talk of VOLUNTARY repatriation within the same country, most definitely! There is nothing wrong if a person wants to return home and the government decides to assist the person. What I'm against is forced repatriation. That's illegal. |

Ajibel: The govt cannot provide jobs for everyone. I know of 6men- 3 Igbos, 2 Ijaws and 1 Yoruba folks that were arrested then later on after some hours were transferred to skill acquisition centres to train. 2 are thro' with their training and are nau self-employed as an upholsterer and furniture maker. Its just that the population makes the efforts of the govt go unnoticed. The govt just needs to expand its capacity to accomodate more The Govt need to expand its capacity to accommodate more, or the other State Govts have to step up their game so that their residents can stop fleeing to Lagos and overburden scarce resources and infrastructure? |

Nightshift: Wnen i hear someone has been deported, i normally assume from foreign counties. But no, Nigerian state of Lagos has added a new meaning to the word by deporting or banning citizens from other Nigerian states from its territory. Yes, because the Gov. Of Baden-Wurtemberg will spend his people's money on Private Jets, Mansions, Bentleys and put the rest in his offshore account while burdening the State of Thuringen by turning the people whose welfare hes supposed to be responsible for into refugees? Then, when he deems it fit, and to divert attention, he screams out "Do not vote for them, they are not our tribe's party, their party is dead on arrival here... We want our own country... bla bla bla" ? Eh? Is that what happens? My friend, take your state Govt to task. The only negative energy I see is that being shown by your heartless State Govts who see nothing in turning you guys into destitutes while stoking the flames of tribalism whenever they feel they are about to get caught in their silly, corrupt, ignorant, and wicked games. 2 Likes |

Note: There is no discrimination in these poverty alleviation schemes. Anybody that is a citizen of Lagos, from any ethnic group, is qualified to take part in the schemes. |

"....some were deported but only after been provided with survival skills other than hawking and begging." @ poster, did you say some Nigerians were deported from Lagos? Has it come to this in Nigeria? |
Re: Fashola Provides Skill Training For Hawkers by Nobody: 11:31am On Jul 26, 2013 |
naptu2:If a person wants to return Home, their is nothing stopping them from doing so, the same way they came. That is still part of their freedom of movement. Also the transport fare is not so high either. Holding people against their will for absolutely no crime, except begging is a crime in itself, not yet considering the talk of people who have died in detention. Just to avoid unnecessary extension, kidnapping people and locking them up is either terrorism or torture, any decision emanating from such people cannot be termed voluntary. 1 Like |

KenGali: Actually there are many things stopping them. In the documentary I watched, the man was bussed in from Kaduna by people traffickers. He barely has enough to eat, so where do you want him to get the money to transport himself home? That's one of the reasons he preferred to return to Kaduna. At least in his village he can farm and get enough to eat. |

Chiddysville: Whao! isn't funny that Fashola loves igbos so much that he goes about arresting Igbos (both employed and unemployed) to give a special 'skill acquisition' and 'largasses' while his yoruba brothers and sisters are joblessly shouting 'owo da' at the bus stops and construction sites. Fashola, thanks but no thanks. Don't you think your charity should start at home? ^^^ 2 Likes |

As long as Lagos State Government has not rejected money from Federation account which were largely derived outside Lagos, it has no right whatsoever deporting or repatriating any one. The Lagos state government in spite of its huge IGR is not self reliant, it is still dependent on the money from oil fields in the Niger Delta and the Southern Fringes of the South East. Should we have 100% resource control, no body will be going to Lagos, even Lagos indigenes will be struggling to go else where. Least we forget, Fashola set the precedence, others will perfect it as no position is permanent. 4 Likes |

naptu2: Ok that is the documentary you watched, in the one I watched, the people did not make any application to Lagos state Government for any help in transporting themselves. They were kidnapped, locked up and traumatized in the name of magnanimity. Talk less of being dumped by the roadside in the middle of the night, in a place they do not know. What an unmatched magnanimity from Lagos State Government! Their's was a plan and action from a Despot. 5 Likes |

By the way, we are currently discussing repatriation between states, but a similar thing happens within Lagos State. Within Lagos it is called re-integration. Think about it, it wouldn't make sense for the government to simply round up people and bus them out of Lagos, because they will simply get on the next bus back to Lagos. It would be a waste of resources. So what happens in both the re-integration and repatriation processes is that the ministry traces the person's family and tries to re-integrate the person into his family, so that he wouldn't have any reason to go back onto the streets. Inn the case of Tanimola the vulcaniser (see page 1 of this thread), the ministry tried to reconcile him with his father, but had to continue taking care of him when his father rejected him. In the documentary I watched, the man from Kaduna was reconciled with his sister and re-integrated into his family. If the case is within Lagos, the ministry searches for the person's relatives and re-integrates him. If it's outside Lagos, the ministry informs the other state government and tries to find the person's relatives. 1 Like |

Nightshift: Wnen i hear someone has been deported, i normally assume from foreign counties. But no, Nigerian state of Lagos has added a new meaning to the word by deporting or banning citizens from other Nigerian states from its territory. This Skills Acquisition Centre scheme is a novel and ingenious way to governance; just as obtainable in Western Countries. This example set by Lagos State should be commended. The federal government of GEJ should be put to shame if she does not come up with such laudable programme to deal with her teaming millions of unemployed, beggars and destitute! In Germany the government provides for skills training of the unemployed; carter for their health and even gives them monetary allowance. So, you don't have the same number of destitute, street hawking which incidentally is a crime in Germany, and beggars! If they have such problem in the same proportion as in Lagos or Nigeria, they would follow Lagos example of rounding them up and giving them opportunities to better their lot in life! This is not "negative energy"! |

kingoflag:Look at this dumb friend of mine, you want to claim indigene-ship on money that is not derived from your so called prosperous land! Talking of criminals, where else to look other than Tinubu. And yes all the money from oil production in Abia, Imo and South South states are being used to fund Lagos, which has suddenly realized that people from these place should not be in Lagos. First reject the money you are receiving as parasites. 3 Likes |

naptu2: PHOTOS : Hungry Woman Bares bosom At Court Premises In Lagos. She went to Lagos because she knows that it is the place where more than half of the money derived from her states (Delta State) resources is locked in both by siting of oil firms offices mining her lands, and the monthly handout to Lagos state by Federal Govt. of funds that truly belong to the hardworking people of Delta State. So why then should she be deported? 3 Likes |

KenGali: I think your emotions have gotten the better of you. She was NOT "deported" and I'm still not convinced that anybody was "deported". Can you provide evidence of deportation? 2) Lagos State receives federal allocation just like any other state in the federation and has even been given a greater burden than other states in the federation, without any measures being put in place to lessen that burden. Most of the facilities that are in Lagos that would have given the government extra resources to take care of that burden have been taken over by the federal government. There are bad roads, etc in Lagos that the government would like to fix, but can't because they belong to the FG! Yet its citizens are suffering. Have you seen how Lagos was before 1960? Oil money nearly destroyed Lagos and I for one would be happy if it goes away. 3 Likes |

Tell naptu2 to stop defending the indefensible irrespective of how fashionable he tries to present them. The illegalities, bias laws and human right abuses meted to and used against some class of individuals/citizens of Federal Republic of Nigeria by Lagos State Government is uncalled for. Fashola and his cabinet have a hidden agenda of restructuring the class of individuals who should live in Lagos State and it's no longer a secret that Fashola uses the phrase/clause "go back to your village", meaning leave Lagos State irrespective of where you come from provided you can't afford certain pleasures of life. talktimi: even though we're usually on opposite sides of the divide, i like the way you present your points & arguments in a very concise and articulate manner. |
