simpleseyi:

On what led to the fight on Thursday, LACEC Secretary General, Pastor Steve Paul Ijioma said: “There has been controversy over the imposition of Alhaji Oki as the Babaloja. This led to several clashes and it was agreed that Alhaji Oki should restrict his authority in his unit pending when the matter is sorted out. During the environmental sanitation, he encroached on our territory and we resisted. The protest is to pass the message across that we do not want his leadership rather a free and fair election should be conducted. It is a pity that an Area Commander could openly ask us to accept Babaloja or return to our various states.”

How does anyone RESIST simple cleaning? Isn't Ladipo the market that was closed because it was dirty? Do these chaps love the filth in the market?

There is nothing cultural about a zone in a metropolitan city where the original inhabitants are in the infinitesimal minority and are trying to employ abnormal tricks to circumvent the will of the Investment Owners.

What just happened in Ladipo Market is a revolution that will define the status of the supposed non ïndigenes in Lagos and Nigeria at large.

Katsumoto:

What is the name of any Igbo market leader in the North? There are a few markets in Kano, please assist by supplying the names of any Igbo who is a market leader there.

Sometimes you guys take Yoruba tolerance for granted.

Just be happy that you have a place to conduct your business without fear of losing your head. The thing is that it wouldn't take a lot to invite troublemakers whose presence might lead to the closure of the market. If that happens, who loses? It pays to see the big picture some times.

If you can't see the political undertone then get lost.

The people want election where the Babaloga or whatever will still stand as a candidate. Ïs it hard for you to understand?

Moreover, go and tell that to your do nothing Governors that trooped to PH where their presence were never solicited.

ndu_chucks:

Are you equating Babaloja's environmental sanitation and cleaning up of Ladipo market in the area occupied by Igbo traders to Colonization which you are ready to die for? Nwanne, you are delusional.

The above post is a result of despicable and inherent tribalism. In the northern region of Nigeria, Igbo traders have representatives at the governor’s office. The shameful display at Ladipo Market is one among many reasons the “SAN” worn by Fashola is highly questionable. The tribal induced shenanigans of fraudulent Babaloja buttressed what I had maintained on this forum that Yoruba people are second nature to tribal bias.

Where is the esteemed professor with his skewed analogy of swamp and hippopotamus?

Are Eket, Port-Harcourt and Bonny Igbo lands? You want to claim these places the way you do for Lagos?

Right from time was Lagos ever Yoruba Land, did yoruba build Lagos, was there any time in the history of Lagos that Lagos was ever known as yoruba land, is Eko a yoruba word , Oshodi , akpongbon ,lekki, yoruba words. What investments or heritage do yorubas have in Lagos
Re: Ladipo Traders On Rampage by Nobody: 6:22pm On Jul 27, 2013
Babaloja is a traditional title not a political one. An Igbo can't and shouldn't be Babaloja in Lagos just same way a Yoruba should not be one somewhere else apart from Yorubaland. They should conduct elections among themselves, choose a leader and mandate him to liaise with Babaloja. That's how it's done.
Re: Ladipo Traders On Rampage by kettykin: 6:22pm On Jul 27, 2013
I repeat if Igbos are pushed out of Lagos , Niger Delta will be too hot for yorubas, Igbos will use their numerical strength everywhere they are to make life miserable for yorubas where ever they may be found on earth, be it in River State or Asaba, Eket, the Xenophobic war would be fought to a logical conclusion while other parts of the country will remain neutral and watch from the side lines.

Any Yoruba thinking that they will push Igbos out of Lagos and then remain in non-Yoruba southern Nigeria (except Edo and pars of Itshekiri) will be deluding themselves.

What they have started planning for Igbos in Lagos, together with their confirmed hatred for GEJ, will ensure that no Yoruba remains in the Old eastern region and in Igbo-speaking Delta State.

How so-called Babaloja could have been elected when the largest cross-section of the Ladipo market regarded him as a persona non grata? Lagos State under ACN has been appointing questionable individuals to idiotic positions in markets around the state. Ladipo Market is not the first market to experience and resist such boneheaded moves by Lagos State fuelled by mindless tribal bigotry.

1soul: Who are the Niger-deltans? The ones you want their own ejected from Aso-rock because the north needs power back to them! Sometimes the rubbish I read on NL makes me wonder if most of you are from outer space. Do you even know what constitutes the niger-delta? At every slightest provocation you start bragging of how you would eject-out thesame people you all fought to keep and share same nationality with by force, pathetic! I only blame the "gullible" Igbos for investing heavily outside their region. I guess is time to transfer that wealth back to the east, and I know once the Akwa Ibom sea port is ready activities would be transfered gradually and systematicaly. I can't even count number of my friends that recently acquired plots and shops in Uyo and Eket. cool

The good part of all these imbroglio is.......Ndigbo will start thinking home!

You have lost your gaddem mind! Your brothers in Lagos are invested invthe land and for them if it ever comes to a decision between going back to igboland to enjoy their freedom and staying in the land of Milk and Honey and continue paying heavy tax, im sure they will readily disown alaigbo to remain on Yorubaland.

If you read properly the content of the article it says 99% 0f the traders are Igbos. The question is what is a cultural portfolio Babaloja doing in Igbo dominated Investments and Environment?

Do you crown a person Oba/Emir of a forest?

Then we prove it to you that it's first Yoruba land before it becomes Nigeria. That's why there are customary courts all over Nigeria to adjudicate on matters of tradition. Nigeria does not abolish traditions: where is it written in Nigeria constitution that there should be an Ooni of Ife, or Oba of Lagos or Obi of Onitsha ? No where! But these figures derive their powers from native laws, customs and traditions.

Which Hausa heads market in northern region? Market trader’s association elects its leaders who in turn represent them through the local government up to the state government level in northern region. This tribally biased shenanigan of IYALOJA OR BABALOJA in Lagos State is crude form of ethicized political patronage.

Because of your selfishness you now believe it is clanish for an age-old tradition should be dropped. The kind of definition you give to some words makes me laugh. You are the only people that call bravery cowardice. Olusegun Obasanjo and Benjamin Adekunle fought Emeka Ojukwu to the extent he ran to Abidjan, but to you, Obasanjo and Adekunle are cowards while Ojukwu is the hero.
