war really has bad effect on d masses,,bt must dia be war again if nigeria wants to divide? i dnt think so
i laughed when i read this, and if the Government say Nigeria will not divide and you still go ahead to declare a new federation, what will happen? Military men would be deployed and It'll still lead to what you want to avoid "war" ....there can't be a peacefull division if biafra does not have world powers as allies...britain is an ally of Nigeria and would do everything to help her, Stop being sentimental, if a war erupts, It'll cause great harm, all the Igbos all over Nigeria will be affected, even after the war, the various segregated parts of Nigeria will still not experience peace, just forget about using war to solve your problems, It's disadvantages are far more than the advantages.

be informed too that the world always look forward to Nigeria to tell the African story all the time and Nigeria also uses that sit to harness the gains from 'international economic diplomacy' bet you might find it hard to decode the essence of the aforementioned.
Africa has three representatives in the security council. Before this election Togo, Rwanda and Morocco were Africa's representatives. Nigeria just replaced Togo for the West African slot. My earlier submission that it is a glorified seat still stands especially when compared to our other achievements at the UN.
Be informed that our country representeded Africa at the SC in 66/67 when Africa had only one slot. Nigeria achieved this feat again in 78/79 and 94/95(under Abacha rule). Well, for the uninformed these may appear to be remarkable achievements but are not, relatively.
More importantly, Nigeria chaired the UN anti-apathied committee from 1970 to 1994, has produced the undersecretary general of the UN in the person of Prof Ibrahim Gambari, the executive secretary of the UN/ECA for 14 years in the person of Prof Adebayo Adedeji, president of the 44th session of the UN General Assembly in the person of Gen Joe Garba (rtd).
Be informed that Nigeria's main goal with respect to the security council is not this 'flash in the pan' that is being celebrated but to have a permanent seat. This was clearly stated by Gen Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) in his address to UN General Assembly in 1992.
The various leaders under whom these achievements were made never played domestic politics with them. Not even the military ones. NOT WHEN YOU CLAIM TO BE A LEADER OR HOPE TO BE ONE.

Saudi Arabia rejects seat on UN Security Council

The United Nations Security Council votes on a resolution that will require Syria to give up its chemical weapon, at U.N. Headquarters. Saudi Arabia is rejecting its seat on the U.N. Security Council and says the 15-member body is incapable of resolving world conflicts. The move came just hours after the kingdom was elected as one of the Council's 10 nonpermanent members. In a statement carried on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 by the official Saudi Press Agency, the Saudi Foreign Ministry says the Council has failed in its duties toward Syria.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia on Friday rejected its freshly-acquired seat on the U.N. Security Council, saying the 15-member body is incapable of resolving world conflicts such as the Syrian civil war.

The move came just hours after the kingdom was elected as one of the Council's 10 nonpermanent members. In a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency, the Foreign Ministry said the Council has failed in its duties toward Syria.

This, the ministry said, enabled Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime to perpetrate the killings of its people, including with chemical weapons, without facing any punishment. The kingdom, which has backed the Syrian rebels in their struggle to topple Assad, has in the past criticized the international community for failing to halt the civil war in Syria, now in its third year. According to U.N. figures, the conflict has so far killed over 100,000 people.

The kingdom easily won the seat in a vote at the General Assembly in New York on Thursday, facing no opposition because there were no contested races for the first time in several years. The Security Council seats are highly coveted because they give countries a strong voice in matters dealing with international peace and security, in places like Syria, Iran and North Korea, as well as the U.N.'s far-flung peacekeeping operations.

The 15-member council includes five permanent members with veto power — the U.S., Russia, China, Britain and France — and 10 nonpermanent members elected for two-year terms. After the vote, Saudi Arabia's U.N. Ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi said his country's election was "a reflection of a longstanding policy in support of moderation and in support of resolving disputes by peaceful means."

But the statement from Riyadh on Friday struck a dramatically different tone. "Allowing the ruling regime in Syria to kill its people and burn them with chemical weapons in front of the entire world and without any deterrent or punishment is clear proof and evidence of the U.N. Security Council's inability to perform its duties and shoulder its responsibilities," the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.

It also said the Council has not been able to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict over the past decades and has failed to transform the Middle East into a zone free of weapons of mass destruction.

Associated Press writer Maamoun Youssef contributed to this report from Cairo.

There is nothing strategic in being a non permanent member of the SC, especially, when our country is the focus of discussion. By virtue of existing agreement, the seat rotates among West African countries. Arising from the above, no 'force' was needed.
Memory lane is important in order to know the past, assess the present, and synchronize the future.
I strongly believe that, contrary to many of the posts here, Aso rock will not be holding any carnival for this 'achievement'. It is infinitesimal considering where we were before now.

This administration strongly believe that Nigerians are m0r0ns, he ran away when he saw that sane countries have rejected their position.
he was almost sounding as if the position will extend our territorial waters by 200 nautical miles or eradicate corruption from our polity or give us Bakassi peninsular back.

Yea! By 'virtue of an existing agreement, d seat rotates among WA countries'. It didn't seem to rotate now, for d very 1st time in WA's Diplomatic history, seeing that Nigeria got it almost back to back!! I wonder why??.... By d way, you know nothing. There is a reason why those nations seriously vying for a Permanent at UN Security Council hv in d last 10 yrs tried to get into dat council as a non-permanent memba as many times as possible and even try to renew same if possible.....

Listen Omo ODUA, that I want a united Nigeria doesn‘t mean I can‘t survive outside Nigeria. When nature and circumstance throws you into an uncertain position you only need to exploit the ‘reources‘ available to make sense of your new position, that i‘m sure the Igbo is more than capable of doing. Sometimes we are held back by fear of the unknown, conquer that fear and you see what better things lie ahead.
Bosnia Herzegovinia has risen from the ashes of war and is marching towards Brazil 2014, what do you think can stop the Igbo from doing same?
I don‘t want division but I‘m not afraid of it.

Mr Taham0r0n, how does temporary seat benefit Nigeria, when permanent seat holders could not solve the Syrian crises three years on?
who do you think you are fooling? which country is dragging that nonsense seat with you? or your minister for foreign affairs is justifying the kick back he collected from pseudo consultants in the name of a ghost negotiation?

Saudi just rejected theirs and you want me to dance because you are holding on to dog shyte, give your brain a break, you cretin.
