In line with the transformation agenda of president Goodluck Jonathan's administration, the National Good Governance Team arrived Kogi State on Wednesday 6th November to showcase achievements and review challenges of governance in the North Central State

The Tour team is led by the Minister of Information & Supervisory Minister of Defence, Labaran Maku, ably represented by Kingsley Osadalor, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Information.

They have inspected Section 3 of the Abuja - Abaji - Lojoka road being constructed by bulletin contractors. The road is constructed with additional funding from Sure-P. According to Engr Aganabi, Dep Director, Federal Ministry of Works, North Central, 40km of the road is complete, 45km will be completed by December and the remaining 5% by March 2014.

The site engineer for Bulletin contractors, Engr. PC. Omenye clarified for the first four years of the project, funding was a problem. But now, it has been resolved. Funds are provided when needed and the work is moving. In line with the job creation strategy and local content mandate of the transformation agenda, the contractor ensures that Labour for this project is accessed from the community. After the completion of the project, the contractors will stay for one year to ensure there is no failure

The tour team also visited and inspected the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene-Benin road which is also in different sections. Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Information, Kingsley Osadolor remarked they had inspected the Benin sections of the road earlier.

The team also inspected the following projects constructed by the president Goodluck Jonathan led administration in Kogi State viz New River-Port at Jamata, Nigeria-Korea Friendship Vocational institute, new Federal High Court Complex, Lokoja, Federal university Lokoja which was established along with other 8 new Federal universities on the 16th Feb, 2011 by the GEJ administration.

This is one good reason why I rate the performance of information minister very high. The man has taken public information management to a whole new level that his predecessors could not attain. This good governance tour of a thing showcases developmental projects in each state and gives us a fair picture of activities of government in each state.

Look at the number of projects on display here, they could have passed unnoticed if not for the ingenuity of the information Minister to package a programme that will evaluate performance and showcase the transformation agenda of the FG. Kudos Maku.

At least we now get to hear about information on what SURE P funds have been used for contrary to the speculation in the media that all the money is missing. Where there is absence of government channels for information, rumours trend and wear the robe of truth.

From this op, it is evident that some part of SURE P was deployed to funding and resuming work on the long abandoned Abuja-Lokoja expressway. That is remarkable. Section 3 was inspected according to the OP, that is commendable. but they should keep on working and ensure speedy completion of that road so that motorists can have a smooth ride.

On point. I like the whole concept. It's more like a peer review mechanism of sorts though I have heard the Minister on TV clarify that they do not score states but offer journalists and the public the platform to make their own independent assessments based on the projects showcased in each state. Every democratic set up needs this kind of programme that will offer a hindsight into what government at each level do with tax payers money.

grin grin grin Shebi na this tour make APC states dey fear? Maku na bad guy. This tour fit spoil market for any Governor wey no dey perform.
It's not easy to subject your state to scrutiny by a team of journalists and civil society groups led by the information Minister. You need to showcase tangible projects otherwise you will be taken to the cleaners by Nigerian press and public.

Ogeni, what has teachers strike got to do with the ongoing construction of Abuja-Lokoja road as shown in the above by the FG?
I think the tour is both about FG/State Projects hence an Internal strike by teachers in the state will not stop it.

But GEJ has tried shaa. It's just that many have allowed parochial and tribal sentiments to becloud their senses of judgement.
Look at the New universities that the president has set up in less than 3 years in office.
No matter how you look at it, these are legacies that will survive GEJ and stand the test of time.

He is trying to point out the lapses in Kogi state governance because the report mentioned some projects done by the state government. Also I could remember that when similar visit was made to Osun, the State government received accolades from the Minister for several developmental projects embarked on.

The Lokoja stadium was executed and commissioned by the past administration, Wada's administration has not done anything significant since inception, As a matter of fact Kogi is running down; as at this week thousands of local government staff were sacked (everybody employed from 2010) for no reason other than the money being released by the state government from the joint account can not cater for their salaries and that of the newly elected and appointed local government council political office holders.
Primary school teachers have been on strike for the past five months, come to Kogi and witness these yourself pupils with responsible parents but that can't afford private school for their wards had to make them to learn menial jobs (Automobile mec, carpentry, bricklayer and so on) while some non carefree parents turned thieir children to street hawkers.
Lokoja is the poorest of all the state capitals In Nigeria in terms of good road and road network, physical planning, infrastructural development. However they have good power supply an average of 10 to 13 hours per day.
Kogi is in shambles but the problem with the people is that they are good at grumbling that is why the sins of the government did not make the news.

90% of the projects listed here were those of the past administration.
There's no development in Kogi state.

One building, one interior, one stadium, one waterwork, 3 silos, one road and dregging of a river and some people are already falling over themselves excitedly.

Mediocrity is seriously engrained in some people's DNA.

The last time I was in kogi which was about a month ago I heard about the ongoing strike, but then labour strikes though it is not encouragable still it is not peculiar to just kogi state or even Nigeria at large.I also saw the Geregu power plant that was just commissioned by the president, quite an imposing layout,I also then saw the accellerated rice paddy and I hear all these projects have been undertaken by the FG,I really commend the ingenuity of this tour because now at least people have the ability to form first hand your own personal perspective on the performance index of our govt, really an innovative idea by Maku and his team.

And the silos I forgot to add are also existing. The agric transformation of GEJ is not just air,it has real substance,it is really going on,very soon the farmers in kogi will be balling hard, like seriously, affordable fertilisers,no interest loans and grants for specific crops, silos for storage provided, and then standard rice mills to be installed soon....agricultural revolution is about to happen and kogi state is one of the states that will benefit immensenly from it.
