kettykin: The poor self image of ikwerre people will finally pan out by 2015 to 2019, port Harcourt is a city that would have been the oil capital of Africa hosting oil and gas companies doing business within the continent , it would have had a faster growth rate than lagos and abuja with an oil and power corridor, many petrochemical industries, gas to electric power station ,gas plants, fertilizer mega plants, plastic plants but all that seems to be finally lost to men of very small mindsets who for a greater part of their existence as an oil and gas power state dissipated energy over their real identity and quarrelled with their next door neighbours whom they have lived peacefully since the creation of the world.
2014 they are still quarrelling over their identity while port Harcourt decays and the whole world migrates to shale oil and electric cars something that the middle easterner is gradually preparing for the worst by diversifying into tourism and information technology, the worst of it is that the ikwerre people can't go back to fishing and farming because their land which they treasured above age long brother hood is gone to oil pollution.
By the time oil is gone rivers indigenes would have realised they got nothing for the black gold except the enmity they created for them selves through the greed and short sightedness of their elders.
The LNG which now has its headquarters in Ikwerre land and paying tax to Rivers Government was purely and wholly the initiative of the last igbo CEO who single handedly pushed his way through bureaucratic red tapism to have LNG move its headquarters to port Harcourt despite opposition and threats from yoruba staff and no support from the presidency.
How did the headquarters get to lagos in the first instance, hints:Gowon and Awolowo regime who go about deceiving the whole world they were fighting to liberate Niger deltans from their igbo neighbours with whom they have have lived peaceably with since pre adamic age with no history of war
Shell bp which initially had its headquarters in owerri later to port Harcourt now has its headquarters in lagos of all places which is not an oil producing state or region, rather than wonderful ikwerre people to fight to have the oil company bring back the headquarters back to their land they are engaging in the worst form of sell out ever in mankind by fighting through their representative chibuike Amaechi the only president ever to have come from Niger delta and the neighbour state of
Bayelsa and this they are doing with hausa fulani and yoruba politicians who in the first place cornered the oil wealth of niget deltans and went to an ignoble extent of ceding a high priced part of niger delta land bakassi peninsular to cameroon

If Ken saro wiwa and Isaac Boro could be forgiven as a first offenders who foolishly fought against his neighbours cause with out recourse to the future but what about chibuike Amaechi an ikwerre born politician who is presently doing everything humanly possible to undermine the Jonathan presidency could he be forgiven even after he has back stabbed his benefactor, Peter Odilli whose large heatedness is what has made Amaechi whom he is today.
Notice the greatest supporters of Goodluck Jonathan today are the igbos whom have been accused of domination, colonisation, exploitation and even victimisation of niger deltans before the war and which some ignorant niger deltans still speak about
Is there any thing wrong with ikwerre people

About three years ago, a Western journalist that passed through Rivers state lamented the comparatively low state of infrastructure in a state that flows with milk and honey. He wrote in his Western journal that in any other normal country, the Rivers state area should have been outstanding in development given the huge amount of oil resource derived from the area. But unfortunately, oil is tapped from the area but oil companies have their HQs elsewhere. What identity crisis could do to some people indeed.

For Ken Saro-Wiwa

16 years the tears still flow freely

The blood of the brave still drips like crude

Hearts still heavy, and hands still akimbo

Men still weep and women still wailing

Streets still deserted and soldiers still watching

A life lived and groomed for the slaughter

The struggle still rages in the delta

Shell is still spilling and murdering the fishes

The politicians still playing chess with the blocks

The road to Ogoni still as treacherous as Syria

The Bakassi people are now Nigeria Refugees

Our schools till float from June-June

Now all we have are Militants

Even the politician have started to give amnesty

The NDDC have failed to develop anything

We have political appointments and then disappointments

Shell has agreed to pay compensations in Billions

The son of the soil is now the president

Dear Ken, nothing has changed since you left

Our comrades have gone back to the trades

Only now we are shipped in slavery on our own land

Rise up Ken, let’s match to Abuja

Your struggle, your life and your legacy still lives

For you today I drop my hat, 16 years and it still hurts!

-2012.

It's because the tendency of you Igbo to always claim you own everything that made the Rivers State Government to change the names of some streets named after Igbo to those of Rivers men.

This was the same man Ojuku went to supervise his death and mock while about to die.

Well as karma would have it, Ojukwu himself met a disgraceful end died deaf dumb and lonely

Ken Saro Wiwa lives on in our hearts

Saro Wiwa loved by all and a symbol of the struggle of the minorities who died for what he believed in while Ojukwu would forever remain a cantankerous coward who fled from and abandoned what he claimed he believed in

The rate at which topics degenerate to tribal wars on Nairaland is alarming. Look at a good topic on Ken Saro Wiwa - a man seen a martyr by his people and for very good reasons too!

You only need to go to Ogoniland and see the devastation caused by drilling.

There are bodies of water that will not be fit for consumption forever!

There are lands this will never tolerate vegetation for eternity!
There are little children that will never make it to their 6th birthday due to the pollution in their backyard!

Those are the issues and not if Saro Wiwa was a saint or not. The question should be: The 'cause' he was fighting for, was it for real? Of course it was. The devastation in their land is for real people. The fact that Saro Wiwa didn't join Ojukwu should not make us hate him. He may have had his reasons. It is not for us to judge him. By the way, who said the same devastation wouldn't happen under Biafra?

The issues he fought for are glaring for all to see. The ICJ has indicted Shell - the same thing Ken said and all these injustices against the Ogonis are not hidden anymore. Let's leave this man to rest in peace abeg.

Oh by the way, I'm from Arochukwu!

saro handed his ppl to fulani/yorob domination. if biafra survived there's no way ogoni land wud hve been plundered n destroyed the way it was, first its pertinent to note tht we share the same boundaries waters lineages and even hve family ties in ogoniland. Harming ogoni land is tantamount to destroying the eastern region. The fulanis n yorobs are hundreds of miles away and hardly even get to see the lands they drill n lift oil from! Sarowiwa sold his ppl then repented last minute. Un4tnately the deed was already done. He evn supervised abandoned propty saga. Abeggggyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

A thread on Saro-Wiwa remembrance has been overtaken by Igbos and their prejudiced, intolerant and excessively nationalistic stand.
They always seize the initiative at the slightest of opportunity to result to loathing of other tribes be it in the SS,SW or Northern Nigeria...Igbos need to know that the World doesnt revolve aronund them.
Being a part of the former eastern region did not mean we were all of the same tribe, neither do we share same values, it was just a colonial setup..eastern region had diverse ethnic groups of which the Igbos were the overwhelming majority with plethora of other minorities..
if the igbos deemed it fit to surrender their collective interest to ojukwu such cannot be said of the other tribes..Ojukwu stampeded on the minorities, carried out atrocities against them and even settled many of rivers indigenes in distant lands as far as Ebonyi and then took his igbo group to oil Rich rivers state, but we found our way bck after the war.
You do not use force to make people support you..wen an opportunity to be liberated comes, people will grab it with both hands..
Wen an igboman says GOOD MORNING to you better check ur time cos its either afternoon or evening.
So you Igbos can keep ur GOOD MORNING,u arent trustworthy.

Limaoscar: Ken Saro wiwa himself was not innoncent. How about His Ogoni kinsmen/Chiefs who were murdered in cold blood on his directives and incitements? He also lies through His teeth about Shell ( I will leave that for another day) Shell has divested all her assets in Ogoni land as I type this and let's see if that will change the corruption amongst the Ogoni elites. At least I know that even Ken Prior to His death also benefitted hansomely from the Shell oil lagesse to the Ogonis when the going was good.

One of the Ogoni kinsmen of Ken Saro Wiwa who was murdered in cold blood on the directives and incitements of the rogue and betrayal artist known as Ken Saro Wiwa was a man instrumental to his rise in fame. Ken Saro Wiwa had inherent tendency to bite the finger that fed him.

The imbecilic screwball only remembered Ogoni land was in ruin due to crude oil exploration when Ken Saro Wiwa fell out of favor with the current the government of Yoruba/northern Nigerian Oligarchy at the center of federal government of Nigeria.

If I call you an uneducated dunce, it should be a compliment. If the fool you called Issac Adaka Boro fought for independent of Niger Delta, how does his misguided action concern eastern region of Nigeria? Even if the deluded Adaka Boro had declared Niger Delta a region instead of a country, how does it concern eastern region? Did the eastern region of Nigeria own army or police? Were army and police contingents that dealt with Issac Adaka Boro belong to eastern region of Nigeria?

Issac Adaka Boro challenged Nigeria and got his silly self imprisoned. When Gowon instigated a war of attrition against eastern region, he thought it was going to be a walk in the park as his idiotic British masters had informed him. However when Gowon and his British Colonialist masters realized that the seemingly wimpy eastern region was not an easy take, Gowon and British were forced to release any convicted criminal in Nigerian prisons. Nigerian prisons were emptied of all able bodied men, including Issac Adaka Boro, that can handle a rifle by Gowon and British.
