Ayoola171: You can even finished with first class and some recruiters can still tell u dat; u're not qualified e.g Kpmg wat ever ur grade as an entry level if u're above 25yrs 4get it, you can hav best grade and pass d apptitude test of a reputable company and stil receieve a message dat u're not successful after so many screening, wat am tryn to say is dat, Credentials can limit u but wit Potential, heaven is d limit, believe in urself, remain focus, never give up, i believe someday u wil come back to testify to d glory of God, if u blv; you can.

In as much as I agree with you on potential, It is my opinion that with the ever growing competition in all aspect of life, you should work hard to ensure that you graduate with a good grade (Second class upper or 1st class) which will provide the platform for you to show case whatever potential you have. You will agree with me that irrespective of whether you know what you are doing or not, with a good grade you will be offered a opportunity to proof yourself

Your grades do not matter ONLY if you plan to dive headlong into entrepreneurship. Since you'll be your own boss, I'm sure you would find it easy to employ yourself in spite of your poor grade.

However, if you have no option than to seek regular, white-collar employment (like 95% of other graduates) then you'd better arm yourself with a 2.2 degree at the very least. . . .except you're a fine chick that can always sleep with one oga or the other (as usual) to get a good job, or you're a guy or girl with very strong connections. In both cases, you can bypass the usual grade-based restrictions. Other than these, do not delude yourself into thinking that you stand a fighting chance in the already saturated labour market.

Re: Third Class Candidates by kreamstaff: 5:38pm On Nov 30, 2013
Within the last eight months of this year, my company has recruited over 18 third class graduates for various firms based on performances on other assessements which some 2.1 and even first class products performed less than expected. We have a testing system that tests and grades you based on your asumed capacity. I must admit quite a lot, especially 2.1 and ocasionally 1st class products fell short of what their grades said of them. Hence we picked the 2.2 or 3rd who performed far better than their asumed capacity. These products are easier to negotiate with, tend to strive harder and do their best while at work than thewst & 2.1 grads who expect the world to lay at their feet.

Therefore keep your head up and ensure u develop yourself to be better than your stated grade. Your opportunity WILL COME! Good luck

you even tried to graduate.

I got admission in 1999 but after two years, I got bored with classes and lectures.

I set up a business center and in few months, could not have time for lectures. by the time my mates were graduating, I produced their project reports and the likes. I produced many handouts and textbooks for my lecturers.

the business was incorporated and now I operate many branches.

I am now a student of National Open University of Nigeria.

by the way, do you know anything about Bill Gate?

The issue of grade is taken seriously because we are taught in d universities to be job seekers. Most lecturers dat taught u in skul graduated with 3rd class. Upgrade ursef n forget d past,u wud bcom a failure if u can't upgrade ursef after graduate,in dat case ur tellin ursef u hv no brain.

I graduated with a third class, Bt it doesn't define me, I no who I am and wat I carry. I am d bread winner of my family today, I take care of my son my mum ND siblings,wt no second-degree I manage a company ,just make yourself worth employing. Third class doesn't define YOU...

You guy should stop typing nonsense here. Bill Gate from day one was smarter than the average person around and he had a near perfect SAT score (1590 out of 1600) while his closest friend Paul Allen who was later a founding partner of Microsoft with Gate, had a perfect score( 1600 out of 1600) in SAT. Paul Allen was the first to drop out of Washington State university and later convinced Bill Gate to also drop out of Harvard University so that they can build their company together which was already growing. These guys are not the average struggling student and should not be used as an example of students who failed in school and was able to succeed in life.
Also America is not Nigeria. You can earn a living with your high school or technical degree and live a good life in America. It is much harder to do that in Nigeria and there are lots of companies, investors and hedge funds ready to sponsor you if you have a bright idea in the US. Those opportunities are just not here in Nigeria so you will really struggle to make ends meet if you graduate with a third class even if have lots of idea because over 70% of potential sponsors/ investors will be turned off just by going through your CV and seeing the 3rd class. That is not to say there are no successful third class holder but it is just more difficult to be successful in Nigeria.

A graduate should not be spreading lies and false propaganda like this just because he/ she want to soothe his/her ego. Name one of the Universities you are talking about.

its like somebody is not saying the truth here either...either you graduate with a first class or third class...the main reason why you went to the university is four you to be able to think on aw to establish a business of your own..how you can be self employed stop looking for government job think of a way to raise money and establish a business then employ people...you are also helping Nigeria conditions b doing this...just my 2 coin

That is exactly why the Federal Government parastatal are what they are today. A virtually non functional work environment because too many unqualified people work there.

If you are in uni now, strive very hard to get out with at least a 2.2 but if you are already done and came out with a 3rd or even a pass, click on this link for a word of advice from Naomi Lucas a Nigerian HR expert of Graduatepro and read her advice for you.
