A graduate should not be spreading lies and false propaganda like this just because he/ she want to soothe his/her ego. Name one of the Universities you are talking about.
this is pure fact not propaganda,30yrs ago 3rd class graduates get good job in naija, then d standard was solid. Ask questions for older people so u don't get lost.

@Poster.... There's a third class guy working at my company. He applied and he was refused. He then came in person that he just wants to work without pay and have experience. Its a software development company. So he took it as a responsibility on himself to learn programming, because he was just used as a support staff (Picking calls only). He became a lil good at it, he told his boss about his new skill, he was tested and he delivered. He was then trained by the company and when he became better, he was staffed.

Its difficult for 3rd class and even 2.2 student to get a work, but that doesnt limit their success chances. The have more tasks to accomplish and if these tasks are faced with determination, they end up breaking that ice.

The whole point is to be encouraged. I dont know why you finished with a 3rd class and i dont care, its left to you to take the bold step or drown. The choice is yours.

And for the illiterate saying this trend is encouraging people to finish in third class, its people like you the third class would eventually employ cheesy cos it shows you definitely have a low IQ.. grin.....

Well, that's the way the university system is set up isn't it? 40% is seen as competent enough that's why its seen as pass standard and they are allowed to graduate with it.The unis should know what they are doing undecided

God help you if even McDonalds employ you. A pass is not honorary (Hons), they give you an equivalent of a diploma certificate.

This is absolute nonsense. I did my BSc in Engineering at the University of Lagos and all of my lecturers who graduated in the 60's and 70's were first class and 2-1 graduates in their time. I said you should name just one university and you are talking nonsense about older people. Get a third class in the UK where they still have good quality education and see if you will get a job. I did my MSc in a country where the minimum pass mark to get a university degree is 60% and you see that there are no average student in the university and everybody is extra smart. Only the competent people should go to university and not everybody. You cannot even do an MSc in many university with a 2-2 let alone a 3rd class. You seem to be in another planet call delusion!

@OP, who told you that having a first class is a guaranty to success, neither is a 3rd class. It's just that the former opens doors and grants access to interviews.

just hope you don't have inferiority complex. The fact that you excelled is owed more to serendipity. And your case is among the few exceptions which are there to prove the rule.

It is my friend, if our youths embrace this mentality, it's a road for disaster. And just see the way Nigerians are romancing the topic like a 3rd class degree is anything to give you a head-start in life.

Can you imagine a "BioChemistry" student graduated with a 3rd class degree and had the guts to put it on social media.

Note that these are the kind of people that cry the most that there are no jobs meanwhile they have never submitted their credentials to any firm.

But my question is, how did he get to his final year? I thought when you fail a module, you take a resit during your holidays and you only progress to the next session after you have passed all modules. Or how does it work in Nigeria?

You cannot graduate with a 3rd class in "Science" No way!!
Guy, you just don't conclude like that. There are factors that can make students have 3rd class, one of them can be finances. While others in the class, some will be running from pole to pole for money. Come to think of it, the so call 2:1 are 70% manipulations. The op is just requesting for advice. It has happened, so the op should kill himself. No! If you have any advice, do not hesitate. The mistake had been done. There is still hope at end of the tunnel.

My achievement soo far can only be attributed to my 3rd class degree. How?It made me over ambitious rite from nysc; I was doing professional courses as a corper while learning sewing and foreign languages. I was seriously preparing on how to blast an interview reading different materials that come my way. I was also applying for jobs online because I've gained soo much confidence reading materials. I acquired enough skills during my nysc and was applying for jobs and at the same time preparing for the worst.
All I needed and prayed for was just getting called for an interview...I got job as a teamleader(coordinator/manager) in a PLC company in Lagos 2mths after NYSC. My oral interview+God did the magic. Only one of the managers that interviewed me talked about the 3rd class but my performance made him recommend me.
It remained a top secret to me that I came out with 3rd, as none of my family members/staff knws about it since I don't even carry myself like one. I bet they will argue it if anyone leaks the secret.
I got another job after a year but I had to tell the GM myself after the interview that I'm sorry I lied I made a 2:2, that I actually made a 3rd as submitted in my credentials owing to circumstances I couldn't control. My performance actually prompted them to ask if I made a 1st or 2:1 rily, n I cldnt but say 2:2 n dy got disturbed why I didn't mk a 2:1.
In conclusion, nothing is comparable to being the best and making a good grade. I have also had nights of silent cries, I have been limited in applying for some great jobs in multinationals since there is a requirement of not less than 2:1 or 2:2.
I've interviewed and recruited 2:1, 2:2 and even Msc within my 1st year of wrk; so....the place of God n skills is key!
All da best! For present undergraduates, pls strive to make a good grade to have a peace of mind and be generally acceptable; no excuse is genuine for failure. I wish I have a better grade though; it would have been a better compliment with the inherent zeal and skills.

Is this thread encouraging people to graduate with a 3rd class degree or consoling them? Don't you have any shame Mr. OP? You should be covering your face in shame but NO! you had the guts to create a thread and tell the world that you came out with a 3rd class.

What's the difference between a 3rd class and a diploma? And who put this nonsense on the front page?

Well i said it that this generation is doomed.
How old are you? Maybe your age determines your level of reasoning. I belive in peoples ability to market themselves rather than dubious grades obtained through sleeping with lecturers, "sorting" lecturer and doing other illegal things to get grades.

You're talking from 2 sides of your mouth. Are you telling me that you need money to study and pass exams now?

If so then what I said about Nigeria is true. The country is gone for good. But are you really expecting me to sympathise with someone who couldn't raise money to give kickbacks?

The OP wasn't looking for advice, the OP was testifying that he graduated with a 3rd class but 1st class students work for him now, that's pretty offensive to me. However, other 3rd class graduates were encouraging the OP, talking about Bill Gates and Dangote. One even advised the OP to go for his Masters degree.

Is that what it has become in Nigeria? When did it get this bad? cry cry

[b]That's ridiculous, your thinking is pretty messed up brother. How does age determine your level of reasoning? Haven't you seen some foo.lish old men? But since you're interested to know, I'm in my early 20s.

I don't want to believe that everyone sorts or sleep with their lecturers before they pass. No! Only the dumb ones do that.

Tokoni was from a very poor family, I know him personally, he was my neighbour, he couldn't have been able to sort even N500 if he was asked. In fact, he was my inspiration to excel in school. He even charges a fee from students to give extra lecture. That was how he sustained himself in school.

He worked hard and graduated with a 1st class degree, NNPC had to send him abroad for a 6 months professional course in the UK, he couldn't have known anyone in NNPC too or have those connections. He now works at NNPC and live a comfortable life. So please spare me your nonsense and don't mess up my head.

I think i'll go read a book now or something cos I feel as though I've lost some brainshells after reading the nonsense you wrote.
