I do not know much about the middle belt but if the fourth largest tribe is in the Niger delta, then i will give it to the Efik/Ibibios..

Ijaw 14M population is a myth..They were in Rivers state before bayelsa was carved out...They just mastered the dubious art of using their difficult terrain to advantage.

Going by number of valid or educated people which is what really matter in terms of human asset we would have
Igbo
Yoruba
Hausa/fulani
Ibibio/efik
Ijaws
Edos
Urhobo
Tivs,
Kanuri
Nigeria has not really conducted a credible census , the only authentic information available is the information generated from institutions and government bodies.
Also an uneducated fellow is a liability and not an asset to any society

Did wikipedia conduct a census for Nigeria and when?

This is why you are always accused of being biased!

Do you have a contrary source for you not to agree with Wikipedia?
Anybody with basic knowledge of the Nigerian geographical regions will agree that the statistics privided by wikipedia is close to the truth.

Ikengawo: To say that Igbo and Ijaw are close in number is absolute comedy. Even in the Niger Delta, Delta igbos and Ikwerre constitute 60% of the people you will see and encounter and we're not counting the SE. Even Bayelsa has a sizeable igbo population and many ijaws are mixed with igbos in high number, unless you're counting Efik, Ibibio and Annang as Ijaw.
Always on the offensives against Ijaw, aren't you?

It doesn't really matter what you or anyone thinks or believe here on Nairaland. In reality, Ijaws are the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria. It has already been proven by both foreign & local ethnographers.

Your claim on S'south Igbos is simply just bogus. There are 6 states in the S'south & Igbos are present in TWO.

In Delta, "Igbos" are second in population to Urhobos-not even adding the Isokos their close relatives.

In Rivers state; whether they regard themselves as such or not, "Igbos" are again the second largest in Population, majority being Ijaws as represented by Kalabari, Okrika, Ibani (bonny&opobo), Andoni, Nkoro,Engenni, Abua, Bille & Degema.

HOW THEN DID IGBOS BECOME 60% OF THE 6 STATES IN S'SOUTH?

Or are you just another victim of poor education or simply showcasing your normal Igbo chauvism combined with a toxic level of ignorance?

The number of igbo female degree holders far out number the number of graduates the hausa/fulani produce even with quota, cachement area, federal character and other checks put in place to stop other people and encourage them

If knowledge is power lack of knowledge is simply weakness, what has made china, USA, EU, what they are today is simply the advantage an educated citizenry has conferred on them . Compare that to the trouble spots of the world like Afghanistan, Somalia, maiduguri and you would see a clearcut difference in what education impacts on the society

Kai it most be fulani or kanuri the problem in the north is that almost every northern tribe replace thier mother tongue whith hausa thats why its difficuit to get real fact about tribe. but kanuri have clear majority in borno and yobe state and they are also in majority in jigawa northeast zone of hadejia they can also be found in nassarawa state and some part of adamawa and bauchi states while fulani are everywere even though they assimilate with the hausas

Re: Which Ethnic Group Comes 4th In Nigeria? by Nobody: 9:40am On Jan 05, 2014
For me, in specific other
1.IGBO (igboland has the highest population density in nigeria and igbos have significant number anywhere in nigeria, its an unarguable fact)
2. HAUSA (also very adventurous with great population in their home and abroad)
3. YORUBA (about 70% of the population of western nigeria but negligible number outside their region)
4. EDO (I just see them frequently)
Point of correction ibibio and efik isn't thesame ethnic group.
I have only seen one ijaw man since birth, adding GEJ will make it two.

Mightymanna: but they grab the most important machinery(politics)and employed thier unqualified people through fedeyears after the warcharacter and qoata system so that your graduate will go for private companies or remain unemployed for every hahahahaha

Their unqualified people who eventually were employed in those government established companies like Nitel, mtel, Nepa, Nigeria Airways , Nta where are they today, that the north is drowning today is a function of economic collapse of the region as a result of the collapse of these companies that provides means of livelihoods to millions of northern people who work in these companies.

The north after the banking consolidation of 2006 had only unity bank to their name where as even the igbos with their £20 , 40 years after the uncivil war were able to come up with 7 banks, this explains that even with political machinery advantage the north is still an economic minority and in serious threat of economic strangulation and distress
