@mahmudsani ... i totally understand how you feel. used to be in your shoes too until favour smiled my way and i got out of the mad race. i have been sharing with and helping others too, changing lives. one of the best things that have happened to me. Just be sure and certain of what you want next... and most importantly pray... all will work out for good.

This is one of d questions i dread most..reason is no one will ever tell you what you want to hear bro..
My 2 cent?...if you decide to quit without another alternative...know that you r taking a big dive..But think of it...Huge successes are usually for risk takers...you can decide to stay conservative and suffer in endurance till you are sacked...or you can start working out ur exit strategy now,bt at any point u leave ...
Why dont u save up and try and get a foreign degree (dont try UK o,dem go collect ur money and send u back afta a yr)in a good country..u may not get all u think u want..bt u ll be better off on both sides..
Dont think u want to do business becos u wont be able to monitor it if u r in operations....if u r married ..discuss with ur spouse ..u guys shld be ready to make sacrifices to better ur life...naija banking job can make life and marriage dull and unexciting...or try change to marketing..it gives time to plan other things..even ur exit...still my two cents

Aro007: I am also in the same situation. I am seriously thinking of quitting my bank job but am really scared of the uncertainty. First of all am seriously distracted at work, I have the most annoying boss and the job have seize to be a source of motivation too me even considering the fact that this is my 4th year on the same position.
Although in my own case, I have an IT/power consulting firm. Currently, I have about 5 different banks as my client and it has not been easy for me a reason am very distracted at work. Every effort to hire people that could drive the company to a higher level proved abortive as they often fail to deliver on there responsibilities as soon as they know I am not fully around with the business. There was a time I had abt 4 graduate working for me, but this did not work for me as I spend precious time separating fight between them than actually making progress.
Please I need an advice as am not happy with my condition and I still find it very hard taking that decision
Wonder how you'd feel if those 4 grads working for you, also ran their individual companies where they'd also commit their time and resources to manage.
Do you work on a part-time basis at the bank?

You must have a very fine voice and face.

When we were on training and mingled with some call centre ladies, we understood the difference between " Girl and Babe ".

I see that as a compliment, thank you.

Well I resigned from my job recently, all I was doing was sitting down and doing almost nothing and collecting salary, had to resign because it was affecting my career, truth is watch how you spend and have a backup action, for me to work all I need is Internet and Laptop, and I can work remotely and submit people's code to them, and gives me opportunity to focus on other deals, but my dear, pls have an alternative source of income. Its not easy best of luck

Guy, don't drag me to that your contract something.

Marketers are core staff and any marketer who is a contract staff is known as a marketing assistant...

The areas where you find enough contract staff in banks are the cash and tellering units, office admin, IT specialist and security.

Don't emphasize what you don't know for sure..

So your bank manager was a contract staff ?

No wonder, you were sacked from "Igboanugo" community bank...

See as you leave topic come dey ask me useless questions..
Bros calm down na. BTW you sound like someone I know-ZB Allen?

Ugo, How can you say you worked in a Bank for 5 years without leave?!

That in itself is a violation of Nigerian Labour laws and I know the Banks try as much as they can to comply and leave periods are built into every contract staff's contract. I know this cos I consult and draft outsourcing agreements for companies.

Did he tell you he is a contract staff and how did you get to your conclusion? It depends on your boss sometimes. I worked 30months at a point before I got a leave and it was because I changed unit.

No be quarrel..

I find it hard to believe that Banks dont give leave breaks to their 'full staff'. Especially as it is a National Requirement according to 'Labour Laws'.

If you have proof that your Bank delibrately and willfully denied you a leave break within 12 Calender month (and you didnt forfiet it of your own volition), then you can sue them for big moeny.

Trust me bro, in the same shoes with u, just 2yrs on the job with no leave, and same routine, I feel like quitting toooo
what about 4 yrs with only 5 days leave. a friend who worked in one of Nigeria's top 3 banks died at his desk due to Heart-related issues. after being recalled from a short leave to go back to work. His wife tried to wake him up to go home .. alas, it was his last day at work, home and on earth..

Try doing that to a Bank that Starts with A and ends with S many of their staff work during leave days.. say no to it and you will be immediately replaced with a harder-working desperately unemployed graduate. you should try getting inside information from peeps who work at some banks in nigeria

I have an Aunt who is a top manager in Keystone Bank.

I asked her one time if this thing we hear about Bank workers and their hard labour is true and she said NO!!

She said the group withinn the Banks that can complain about hard and long days are those in the investment banking sector who deal in stocks and bonds. She says they work that long because they trade on different markets around the world with different opening and closing times. But that the Bank Tellers and co dont put in as much work. That if it takes you so long to close out your work, its prolly because you left your work to pile up for whatever reasons.

So I wonder what work a teller on leave would be called back to do,.

Yungwizzzy: I don't believe your story dear

Why not? Honestly, most of us who work in a bank want out. I hate it but right now I do not have an alternative but to remain and sulk.

Do not sulk, set a SELF-IMPROVEMENT goal for yourself that will ultimately re-position you in a better role where:
1: You are respected for the value you bring to the table not the amount of hours you put into work
2: You are in a position to Balance your work with your Personal Improvement. Companies value your ability to deliver on what your Job Description says and more. If you allow your Family or Personal Life to suffer, your ability to deliver will also suffer.. guess what?! there a millions of unemployed graduates who can deliver exactly the same value you are delivering; for cheap too.

It will cost you TIME and MONEY so start saving judiciously and start taking High Risk, High Value Decisions.

Dear fellow nairalanders
Help you brother out by voting for my project (Afrique Merchants and Trade Services -AMTS ltd) in the on-going youth competition organised by UNESCO. The top ten voted entrants get invited to present their projects at the Entrepreneurship Summit in Berlin, Germany with the possibility of the winners securing funding and support for their project.

The link to vote for mine is at:
