My point is:The international community don't fancy us. However, we are still at their mercy and we either come up with our own cure fast or we go begging on our knees.

This is a desperate situation that calls for desperate measures on all angles. Our leaders can't afford to tow the ego line at this crucial time. Some valuable lives are at stake here.

BTW, what's up with the money naija recently contributed towards this ebola stuff days back? What really is it meant for? To find a cure- which naija won't benefit from? Or to get medical aids for those countries? - aids that we need desperately ourselves!

#still I pray for God's intervention#

Acidosis:

...and who says a "pesticide" cannot cure a deadly virus??

Indomethacin (popularly called Indocid in Nigeria) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs) used for severe pain, osteoarthritis, angina (not sure), etc., yet the same drug is used as a rodent killer.

Oh f00lish America; there is another rat poison called coumadin (4 hydroxythiocoumarin). This is the same chemical that is used to make a drug to prevent blood clots in human blood called warfarin!

Hating won't help that country called USA cool smiley

I guess Jonathan just doesn't have the personality and carriage of leaders to be reckeoned with, or why would naija be denied of foreign aides in terms of drugs and other supplies? If it's necessary, guy better go and beg, cap in hand, so that naija doesn't lose out.
. Y must everything that goes wrong be abt Jonathan? If u don't insult ur president I guess ur comment will be incomplete. What has US refusing to give us ZMAPP got to do with jonathan...Haba! he is human, let give him some respect & support.

Arnoldo: they want us to come beg them for the drug....do u expect Jonathan to do DAT when countries like Canada is willing to give theirs free....useless white rats
Ordinarily, I don't expect Mr President to stoop unnecessarily low to get the drugs. However, I'm looking at this whole ish from another angle- the angle that puts human life above protocols, above ego. There is a Yoruba adage that says: if one is not holding a sword, one doesn't ask for the person that killed one's father. In other words, we don't have a cure yet, we are really not in a position to flex muscle with them. I love my country, I'm not a politician but i just want this virus flushed out for good.

We don't have to beg America if Canada can bail us out. I pray one of them comes to our aid.

thegoodjoehunt3: Map BioPharma have agreed to release their Experimental drug (ZMapp) to Africans, what has stopped our President and the Minister of Health from contacting Them for the Experimental drugs (Supporting them financially). This embarrassment with this Nano Silver issue shows the height of incompetency in our health Ministry.

Even if they wanted to test it, it should have been in secret with top health researchers. This Minister of Health must go. He has been a total failure.

I think they should begin to really check this Nano silver stuff. Since its from the US, they can contaminate it to prove a point ( that's how low they can go). The Nigerians making these stuff had better take NOTE, all new batches should be checked!! I'm so appalled by the impunity of the US government. Rubbish!!

Don't worry , I brought in my stock well before the ebola outbreak. Nobody's messed with it. wink feel free to get yourself and family protected now.
Its easier to prevent illness than cure it.

Take a teaspoon in the morning, and another in the evening. I do this everyday since this thing (ebola) arrived Lagos.

At the bold - the funniest thing is that - since the West Africa Ebola outbreak, no one has been able to tell the world which variant of the Ebola virus it's, despite the fact that it looks contagious, and it's a more vicious one. Yet we keep hearing about all kinds of countries having experimental drugs - shocking!

Honestly, most Africans don't understand world politics and folks are just too myopic and naive to see that there are no friends in this game, it's about survival of the fittest, and the weakest will always be collateral damage. Hence Africa has always been at the receiving end of everything. Geopolitics is deeper than the fictitious globalisation - it's a game of winner takes all run by global elites and corporations, and everyone is trying to maximise whatever they can get out of it. Africans need to get busy and start doing for "self" - the west, east, and all the blocs on the planet don't give two fvcks about Africa.

And hell yeah, they world is too inter-connected today, especially western Europe that's more or less connected to everywhere. Hence they're keeping an eye on Africans who might want to come over and pollute Europe with the virus. Trust me, if Ebola gets to UK or Germany tomorrow, don't be surprised if another "secret" Ebola drug drops from the sky. That's how the game goes. grin

Hahahahaha definitely!! If Ebola finds its way into Europe, a cure will emerge from nowhere. But damn!! It will be proper scary and spread like wildfire.

Zaire had the first cases of Ebola in the 70s, when they were being ruled by a complete airhead Mobutu Seseseko who knew only how to siphon money.

Somehow, Ebola was brought under control and since then no African government has taken the initiative to invest resources into further research on this vicious virus (despite smaller outbreaks over the years) other countries who never experienced Ebola, developed experimental drugs and kept them in anticipation of something like this.

I think Africa deserves no sympathy from anyone.

A lot is still not known about Ebola, most of the information being circulated are old and outdated or just products of brief research, the west is just starting to pay more attention to this virus.

I'm still of the opinion that this particular strain could be airborne, just take a look at the infection rate, it's insane!!

So so on point bro. True talk. We really need to start doing for self and not wait for these people to do it for us. It is just all politics, nobody gives a hoot about our welfare as Africans, and really, nobody should but us. Remember the Indo China wars and the Vietnam War? It is always about the west's interests, nothing else matters.

sartorius: By Toni Clarke

(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Thursday it has become aware of products being sold online that fraudulently claim to prevent or treat Ebola.

The FDA's warning comes on the heels of comments by Nigeria's top health official, Onyebuchi Chukwu, who reportedly said earlier Thursday that eight Ebola patients in Lagos, the country's capital, will receive an experimental treatment called nano-silver.

Erica Jefferson, a spokeswoman for the FDA, said she could not provide any information about the product referenced by the Nigerians.

The FDA did not specify any products in its warning.

Silver has been used as an antibacterial for centuries. Tiny silver particles known as nano-silver have controversially been incorporated into a variety of consumer products such as socks and bedding to help block odors caused by bacteria and mold.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency considers nano-silver a pesticide. Manufacturers of products that contain it must register them with the agency.

http://uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/idUKKBN0GE2GD20140814?irpc=932 Nano-silver is also sometimes sold online as a dietary supplement even though Danish researchers found in a recent study that nano-silver can penetrate and damage cells.

The FDA regulates dietary supplements and said in its statement that "by law, dietary supplements cannot claim to prevent or cure disease."

The agency said it had received consumer complaints about the Ebola claims.

"Individuals promoting these unapproved and fraudulent products must take immediate action to correct or remove these claims or face potential FDA action," the agency said.

The Ebola outbreak ravaging West Africa has claimed 1,069 lives so far. Most have been in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Nigeria has confirmed 10 cases of the disease and four deaths.

If you cannot provide a solution to our problems, dont criticise us for using another alternative.

Maybe we should go back to the use of mercury for the treatment of syphilis. Nano silver as a prsospective drug for treating ebola is nothing but a cheap scam. I am shocked that a health minister can even voice this. What kind of a prof is he? We had better stick with our salt and water. It costs next to nothing and its far less poisonous.

If the health minister must go, let him take his advisers and the head of national centre for disease control along with him. He didn't come to this conclusion all by himself. The people advising him are experienced scientists.

I think the onus is for 'un believers' to disprove that nano silver is at the very least, useful in the fight against this menace.

Nigeria is regarded as a poor country which could have been one of the richest.

Nigeria's money is ghost money, just figures on paper whereas the actual money is sitting comfortable in private accounts all over the world.

The west sends aid money to Nigeria, but instead of using it for its earmarked purpose, it is hijacked and diverted straight to private purses.
