I've not seen a nollywood movie since 2006 so I guess I've been delivered from seeing all the rubbish. Nollywood is one sick joke and a waste of money. @OP u forgot to mention the ridiculous titles they give to their movies.

I have realised that majority of those that condemn anything that comes out of nollywood are those that believe nollywood starts and ends with all those part 1-4 crappy movies that take 2weeks to be shot. Who even sits down to watch such and expect something decent? Some buy all those 20-in-1 dvd for 150n and expect satisfaction? I wasn't surprised when majority thought half of a yellow sun was the best thing to ever happen to nollywood.

I also dislike it when people try so hard to feel intelligent and superior by looking down on anyone who watches anything nollywood. There are a couple of new generation nollywood movies that keep popping up in the cinemas, with professional artistes like joseph benjamin, O.C ukeje, ivie okujaye, nse ikpe etim, adesua etomi, blossom etc). There are greedy producers, Yes, nollywood isn't perfect, yes, matter of fact, no 'wood' is perfect but outright condemnation of the whole industry isn't a fair assessment. There's a whole lot to improve on, I agree and admit, but some directors have never stopped raising the bar which should be commended.

Nigeria’s film industry rakes in an impressive $590 million a year, and contributes greatly to an economy that relies mainly on oil and agriculture but lacks content.

I still stood my grounds that the name "Nollywood" made the nigeria movie industry look mediocre and exposed to underrating. That name should be changed to NIGERIA CINEMA. For once we should be proud of what we have. All this unnecessary borrowed foreign names wannabe we are fond of copying, ain't good for business. The name Nollywood made the movie industry look third class, over the top, unserious, lack of confidence in our product and a child's play. Nigeria movie industry need support to grow, its an obvious fact. But they should start by using their head to work. Too many illiterates with goofy talents are dwelling in the industry. The "me first" tradition in the industry ain't helping matters either...

Is Nollywood a worthy movie industry? HELL YEAH!

The Nollywood industry is currently one of the fastest growing industries in Nigeria; reputedly growing at about 33%. The Nigerian economy as a whole is growing at 6%

Nollywood is also a massive employer of labour creating jobs for many people directly and indirectly.

You also need to realize that as crappy as those movies are, the people in the grassroots can relate to it more than the middle class or elite. The folks in the grassroots don't understand fancy accents, complicated plotlines and all that. They want movies they can relate with. So, there is a large, ready market for what Nollywood churns out; and not just in Nigeria but other African countries too.

Yes, the quality needs to improve, but even at that you will still have these low budget crappy movies being made because there is an audience for it. Those who want better quality should be willing to go to the cinemas or pay a little more to get it. You can't expect to pay N200 for a good movies DVD. Haba, you wan bankrupt the Producer.

Lastly, even in Hollywood and Bollywood, there are hundreds of crappy movies produced by Indie producers every year. They never make it to the Box Office, so you never hear about them. But they exist. Nollywood is growing gradually and a few Producers are beginning to do something different. You can visit www.dobox.com to see some quality movies..., if you are willing to pay for it.

When push comes to shove....buy a camcorder 1080p and join the band wagon.

Males and females...love matter...cars and hotels...movies don set.

Wait for yawa to gas and use it as the title for your movie. After all by the time person go sabi say the movie sucks, they don buy am finish.

Update your wardrobe. Any where e dey happen, dress well and go there dey form "movie producer".

To produce movies these days na only 2 days work.
Nigerians lack professional touch in their ventures...any how is better than nothing, unless oyibo join am.

E never reach 2 months now wey I dey deal with First Bank just to get a "token" through their stupid Firstcontact and Diaspora banking crap. You will think I am talking with elementary school pupils. And these are the so-called graduates? And these people work at the corporste office? SMH for Nigeria. The future is very very, and I repeat, very bleak.

The best option is to reduce the standard to the barest minimum in any dealings that involve Nigerians. Emphasis is mine.

Do u fink it eazy making a movie in a country that rather pay #150 for a cheap DVD than #1500 for quality Cinema clip. Do u fink its ezy casting for roles in a country that rather c aki N pawpaw scream n blab for 2hrs than c new talented artist. Quality movies will come wen the players in the industry are certain of their money bk. Put in 200million n get bk ur money n den some. So STOP patronizing the cheap #150 DVD and go to cinemas, appreciate new talents.

Bros, you are getting the opposite here, what did you mean by 'reality?', watching old NW movies that are cheap? A poor man that owns a TV and a DVD that can also rent or buy part 1 - 4 bad movies is capable of using that same amount to buy one good one, simple. Watching movies in cinema is not a must for everyone sha, and cinemas accept movies that they believed is perfectly made not crap, I believe you are working to gain in life, so does movie makers. Haven't you asked yourself why two guys will start same business and one will blow than the other, it's not that he sells his product cheap, he sells quality/original.

Do you know that fuel and kerosene is not 100% important to man? But men can still buy them @ N200/ltr, why? 'Cause they needed it, so if you, poor men etc really appreciate good and quality movies, you guys have to wait patiently to get your hands on one than watching loads of crappy ones.

There are hundreds of NW movies I'm dying to see, I'm waiting patiently to get my hands on one someday, that does not warrant me to start watching a lot of crappy ones.

you see I think you are very wrong in ur analysis. the problem with Nigeria is dat we take any type of shit in the name of 'we are trying'. which new NW movie are u talking about? even ije which is that biggest NW movie to hit d box office does so because it was shot oversea and to tell u d truth it was a piece of shit. look at half of a yellow sun with all d hypes but to my chagrin it is still a flop. our problem in Nigeria is dat once dia is a slight progress we make we overblow it without knowing dat we are still centuries backward. I don't blame them though its typical african mentality . that's why we always blame d west for our poverty and laziness. and thunde fire anybody who quotes me

Okay now don't use the crap you get on African magic channels to judge all the movies coming out from nollywood. Okay. Go to the cinema and watch some good nollywood movies you'll be proud of what Nigerian directors and actors are doing.
