pasino26: I lost a dear friend to SARS Awkuzu, my landlord was picked up by SARS Okpoko Div on allegation of kidnapping whereas in the real sense they caught some gays doing the act and metted some beating on them. Before the next day he was almost killed(traveled) but for #200,000 both the gay guys n everyone within the vicinity. Those guys make Guantanamo look like heaven. Been arrested by SARS is as bad as a death sentence. They are same everywhere and even fellow police men hate these SARS operatives. Currently in Anambra state they employ the mandate of the incumbent governor to kill and extort, if the local vigilantees stop you and you refuse to do the needful they simply hand you over to SARS who now tag you a KIDNAPPER.

I even have a video of a DCO in Rivers State who extorted #9000 from me after they arrested a friend for interceding on behalf of a driver his men were beating for not paying their fee. He slept there that night even after I pleaded I was just coming back from site with no cash that evening but #4000 his saving grace was that his face never showed while collecting the money but had him on video confirming that the boy is innocent just that HE DID NOT MIND HIS BUSINESS.

I have mailed them too and I also asked them to come to Nairaland to explain to us why such nefarious activities is going around the country…….Nonsense!Even a robbery suspect or an actual armed robber deserves fairness and judicial trial before you can kill them….Who is the police force to judge?…..This type of post make it hard to live in that country…….I am going to mail the human right violation commission in charge of abuse by police if I don't get any response…..

I can relate with this, two days ago some heavily armed men invaded my uncle's house here in lagos at 11pm to arrest one of his tenant, they never told us what was his offence, my uncle had accident so he couldn't get downstairs,i was the one he sent down to find out what was going on, when i entered the flat, the guy was already in cuffs, they combed his whole house but found nothing, they told us they were sars cpi or something and they came all the way from abuja, they threatened us not to tell anyone what happened that night, even when they sent me to go and switch off the guy's gen, some of them were even mounted outside and those ones restricted me from entering the backyard, they took the guy away and till this very minute nothing has been heard or seen about the Guy, and to be on the safer side my uncle called the nearest police hdq and they confirmed they are aware those sars were around. It was a terrible Xperience

dada01: After reading your post here is my judgment.

Without any prejudice whatsoever Your story might be correct in the aspect of extortions BUT Bro

The other aspect of D Police SELLING and KILLING its a big horrible LIE due to your Energetic ambitions of black mailing the Police.

Am not a police (in fact I can't) neither my relatives, am not even a #100 fan of the NPF, no with standing u can't just come here and start miss informing us.

If such thinz had happened would u not ave officially lodged a complaint.

......... SMH

You don't just make a conclusion blindly just like that. This is a first hand information and not ''them say''! What will I gain blackmailing them? It did not happen to me, but my guys told me what transpired while in cell for two nights.

May God deliver us from these monsters the state of Nigeria has emancipated. The funny thing is that by this time next year, some silly people will still vote in an inefficient government. The lesser incompetent people like Jonathan as heads of state, the better for this country. If nothing is done, by 2019, the police will be worse than Armed Robbers. Believe me.

How can someone pick someone from your house, and you'll keep quiet.

Did the guy kill someone?... Even if he did, no bi court go judge am...

I hope you've contacted his next of kin or relative, before you hear they can't find him anymore, or as they say: travelled him...

The weakest people are the most culpable culprit. The the weakest people have not necessarily committed a crime, they can be innocent or guilty of a crime, but they have no one outside to do a follow up. So, they get consumed by the corrupt system, and other people like the person I quoted above, just keep quiet. I pray no one will keep quiet when someone decides to pick you up for nothing!

Get a lawyer. Pray a lot.

Sars is very bad news, day or night. Absolutely corrupt system of people that Nigerians are simply quiet about. They feed on the premise that Nigerians do not care about each other. So, when someone gets picked up. Out of fear or uncaring, they know you'll let go, then they estort people, kill people at will. I am ashamed to be a Nigerian because we live in a democracy, that allows this. For the very first time in my entire life, I am ashamed to be associated with such an occultic system, that's accepted, for years!

My lawyer, still has a case of someone that's randomly picked on the road by sars, he's been at kirikiri for over 1year now... the father is exhausted, but at least, they got a lawyer and he's not killed. They kill people at will!..

When I think about the instability of the Nigerian system, I feel like running out of this country... I truly feel ashamed... How can people just be killed for killing sake!

It's all over the news:

listen, I've had an experience at SARS in anambra state and I can testify that some unfortunate inmates are killed nightly without any jurisdiction or trial.

maasoap: No more SARS in Osun state. The petitions against them back then on massive and incessant extra judicial killings of the accused was so enormous that FG had to close their station down. That station had now been replaced with conventional police station. They killed Ladi and Ifeanyi extra judicially, they were robbery suspects but killed with little to no evidence. Thank God, no more SARS in Osun. The SAS we have now belongs to Aregbesola security patrol.
you are right brother...

This fight can be won if we engage our print media houses. They CPs and other high ranking officers are not ignorant of this attrocities, complaining to them could bring a momentary solution but the bigger attitude of unlawful arrest, extra judicial killing, harassment, intimidation and extortion may remain until we begin to seek the partnership of media houses to start writting articles on some of these neferious activities. I don't know about the willingness of the media, but i believe we can press on them to intervene.

Boyoorisha:

What description? I have mentioned the station, what else!?
.
@Bayoorisha, I once live at Ibadan (challenge precisely) and majority of the residents around "Mokola" where SARS is situated knew that d "Den" call SARS is more or less a place of no return for people who doesn't have somebody to ask for them; "SARS" Mokola has been like that for ages, those brutal policemen always exercise their notorious shooting by firing at detainee not minding wether d person is found guilty or not! May God guide our steps so that we will not fall into the traps of this "OTOKOTO KILLERS" in uniform!!!

Lordlexyy: This fight can be won if we engage our print media houses. They CPs and other high ranking officers are not ignorant of this attrocities, complaining to them could bring a momentary solution but the bigger attitude of unlawful arrest, extra judiciary killing, harassment, intimidation and extortion may remain until we begin to seek the partnership of media houses to start writting articles on some of these neferious activities. I don't know about the willingness of the media, but i believe we can press on them to intervene.
now someone is begining to talk some real sense here. Bringing out stories here won't solve this issue , nigerians have to take their destiny in their hands . These sars ppl will sit up and change once they know that everyone is watching them closely and that their atrocities are no longer hidden . I have made 5 comments on the way forward but what everyone here is interested in is just reading these stories. Let's come together and stand. Up against tthis criminals in uniforms ,these human butchers calling themselves police officers . A very good way to start is to create a thread here on nairaland ,that will be dedicated solely to reporting police brutality, extortions and extra judicial killings with information about the police stattions and the officers involved if possible. Then we can progress further but if we keep bringing up stories it will be like tales buy moonlight to so many and we don't know who will be the next victim of this killers

At the mouth of two or three witnesses, a testimony is established. Even in lies there is the element if truth else it would not be believed in the first case. A fellow I know was arrested by SARS oyo (for owing the complainant a debt - When did the police become debt collectors?) many years ago and recounted one event that seems to be common in several esperiences posted here. When they were in the cell and the officers come around and pick out some of the inmates, the others burst into wailing. Upon asking what was the reason he was told they were taken to be killed. If indeed there would be an investigation on this, past events could be gotten from former detainees from the log books and let them collaborate these stories if indeed sanity and credibility is to be restored.

A drama like the above scenario was when the detained leader of Boko Haram was killed in prison and nothing happened to the seven officers until a year later when the bombings started. The rest they say is history. I wonder what the story about those seven cops is now.

I am not sure if these cops undergo psychological evaluation to ensure their worthiness in carrying guns. I watch foreign movies where if a cop gets engaged in a shootout and kills a man even rightly, he still undergoes Internal Affairs checkup to ensure he is fit to go back to active duty not to talk of those who 'regularly' encounter robbers and the like routinely.

It is a good show that the police force has responsive contact numbers for each state on their site. One thing I recommend further is to ensure a central reporting structure where citizens are made to confirm that should they be detained, they are logged in and out upon release with their full awareness else they have the right to turn the police station upside down as they could be set for the journey of no return.

For example I recollect a case of when I was at Oshodi lagod over a decade ago where the cops kept me from making calls to my parents, detained my video games (when in fact I was telling them I purchased one quite close to the station) and bundled me into the station. I guess it was the fact that the cell was cramped was what made me not to be placed there. My offence - carrying video games without receipt (God help you if you had a laptop). One thing I noticed was that inside Oshodi market was another market : The Nigerian Police Station PLC Oshodi branch. No matter what you just had to drop something. Upon my strongheadedness at long last I had to give the cops ₦500 and on my own volition gave the inmates at the cell ₦200.

There was no one to report to, no strict monitoring by relevant bodies, no way to enforce my rights (I was at one police station where a policeman was telling a man "So you want to claim your rights abi?". Where better else should his rights be protected if not at a police station?).

Are cops there to deprive people of their rights or will this new IG bring an end to the menace of the boys in black or will it still be extortion as usual? Time will tell and the courts will tell.

dada01: After reading your post here is my judgment.

Seems you don't live here or else you'd understand.... They don't care! Forget all those funny videos...immediately the offending policemen are dealt with...the seniors start coaching them on how to evade such coverage next time! And woe betide you if your coverage is not broadcasted enough to get the much needed public reaction....
