He played his best football in England obviously. That was where he won the league, Carling Cup, Champions League, European Golden Shoe, and Ballon D'Or.

He has only won the Copa Del Rey in 2 years at Madrid, a cup that was won by Sevilla last year. He is in line for the Pichichi and European Golden Shoe. So he has only started to win stuff in Spain. You could technically say that he is just beginning to prove himself there grin

   C Ronaldo at 16 showed a lot of promise in Benfica, that was why at his age he was bought. The fact that sevilla won the CDR cup last year does not take anything away from it afterall Barcelona won it the year before and they danced with it along other trophies. C Ronaldo has already proved himself in Spain. He is world class!! and as for olympic matter thats just like Ronaldo in Benfica , Mikel too was second best then, but what is the present situation with the Senior team??

Abeg which type yeye Olympic gold and under-aged titles. Even Wilson Oruma & Tijani Babangida can boast of Olympic Gold and under-aged medals. It would be better to say he is a Copa America finalist with Argentina.  grin

I will advise everybody to read the first post on this thread. The question was "which of the two would you want to have in your team??"
I will go for C Ronaldo in any team. I will only chose messi over Ronaldo if the team is Barcelona. Why ? C RONALDO has proved himself in more than one club/league. The question at the begining of the thread is that simple!! Read it.

RONALDO BREAKS LA LIGA SCORING RECORD.

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo tonight broke the Primera Division record for goals in a single season after netting his 39th of the campaign against Almeria.



Cristiano Ronaldo now has 39 league goals this season and is in pole position to win the Pichichi
Ronaldo needed just five minutes of Madrid's final game of the season against already-relegated Almeria to seal his place in the record books.

Xabi Alonso's free-kick to the far post was headed back across goal by Sergio Ramos and the unmarked Ronaldo was on hand to poke in the opening goal of the game.

That strike saw Ronaldo move one clear of the previous all-time record, which he jointly held with Madrid's Hugo Sanchez, from the 1989-90 season, and the legendary Athletic Bilbao striker Telmo Zarra, who achieved the feat during the 1959-60 campaign.

Ronaldo, who had scored nine goals in his previous three games heading into Saturday's fixture, has now netted 52 in all competitions for Madrid this season.

Cristiano ronaldo is the better player!

Cristiano ronaldo moved into the Spanish league barely two years ago and put his name in the Spanish history books while messi has been playing there all his freaking career, he can't accomplish nor break the feat ronaldo has broken this season.

Ronaldo is the best player of the season, End of story!

You sound like he scored all 40 goals against Relegation teams Ronaldo has been scoring since the start of the season. The "Other" (Ronaldo) was grabbing the winning goal in the CDR Final over Barcelona ,   by the way those so called goal;s against relegated teams are same goals that Gave him THE RECORD 40 goals in a season!! What prevented Messi from scoring hat tricks against relegation teams like Hercules(mind you the Relegation team in question beat barcelona in camp nou)   cheesy  C Ronaldo has created a new Record and no amount of sentiment can take that away from him. the fact speaks for its self. 40 GOALS !!

Messi has scored 4 hatricks this season and unlike Ronaldo, Messi scored when there was alot to play for.
Ronaldo scored 10 penalties compared to Messi's four.
Ronaldo scored 11 goals when Barca had already won the league while Messi was scoring when it all mattered.
Ronaldo: 10 penalties + 11 goals scored in dead rubber matches = 21; 21 out of 40 goals. . . I dey laugh

The fact remains that C Ronaldo scored the winning goal against Barcelona at the CDR final (messi was there) At the end of the day,after all the blab,rants & chants the record holder for the highest number of goals remains C Ronaldo !! & for your information in all levels of competition in the game of football nobody attaches any wieght to when the goals were scored,if they are crucial goals, dead rubber,freekicks or penalties WHAT MATTERS TO THE RECORD HOLDER IS THE NUMBER OF GOALS!! 40 goals in one season . Its a game of numbers and nothing more pretentious. Any attempt at your kind of empty rationalization is not only ridculous but frivolous and goes to no issue!! no game is meaningless, this argument is very weak. la liga is a 38-game competition and any goal scored in that period counts for the pichichi. whoever got to the 50 goal-mark first makes no difference. there was a season kanu got to the 10-goal mark first ahead of rooney, drogba, torres, etc in the premier league. fact remains ronaldo would win the pichichi and messi is so far behind.

you herbs make idiotic comments like ronaldo scoring 11 goals in meaningless games or against weak teams. the question is, did messi score all his 50+ goals against the big teams of la liga. did he not score 90% of his goals against weak sides too? you guys should argue and reason objectively. a goal is a goal whether it's against almeira or real madrid. it's not like ronaldo has never scored against barcelona - yes, messi scored 2 goals that eliminated madrid in europe. . . . .i would have scored against a 10-man madrid side too.

Not too long ago pple were doing d same for Ronaldinho, Adriano, Henry & Kaka, even CR in 2008 was compared to d greats. Simply cos some pple are getting carried away comparing players to legends doesn't mean they are that good yet.

Ronaldo has proved that he can do his thing and shine for club and country and in the English premiership or La liga,but Messi seems only to be able to thrive in Barcelona where the like of Xavi,Iniesta and co are there to make him shine

There's a reason why Christiano Ronaldo is the current undisputed pin-up boy of soccer in the whole world and the highest paid footballer.There's also a reason the owners of Man City are contemplating buying him in the summer even when they know there's a buy-out clause in the neighbourhood of a billion dollars shocked grin in his contract with Real Madrid,he is already the highest paid footballer,but Sheikh Mansour is even looking to up his pay to such an amount that Messi can never dream of in his career tongue tongue

"We should not forget that football is a team sport. If Ronaldo does even better next year, but Madrid again finish second, nobody will be happy.

"Lionel Messi on the other hand has also scored a lot, although he has not found the net as often as Ronaldo. He has made the final of all big competitions, though. He is already halfway winning the double of La Liga and the Champions League."
