Some West African countries where Ebola Virus Disease is currently spreading have contacted the Lagos State Government for assistance on how to contain the deadly virus.

The Deputy Director, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Omowunmi George, who stated this in Lagos, also noted that the survival rate of the detected and quarantined victims in Lagos had been the highest among areas so far afflicted with the virus.

She spoke at an Ebola awareness campaign in Ikorodu.

George said out of 15 confirmed cases in Lagos, only five had died and virtually others had been assisted to overcome.

She said, “What we did was to get everybody on duty at the airport when Sawyer came in; we got their numbers and contacted them; brought them a thermometer each to start monitoring their temperature; surely, their temperature will go up.

“Immediately they reported high temperature, they would be picked up and quarantined to prevent them from having any contact with other people.”

She explained that it was easy to assist those who reported early to get over the problem and urged people to call the Ebola helpline once they suspected or saw anybody showing Ebola symptoms.

If LASG or FG wants to "aSsist", they should travel to the countries and not import the ebola victims to Nigeria.

Are these neighbours for real? So, Lagos has now become a brother to look up to

Their govt should be blamed for not containing the EVD when it initially broke out. Now that it has eaten deep into the fabrics of their country, they want LASG to assist LASG only took effective measures, that's all!
Now, with what should LASG assist? Ewedu grin

Nigeria has an obligation to Nigerian citizens to assist other West African nations (Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc) to combact and reign in this deadly virus. If these countries get overwhelmed, there is no border control that will stop expose people, who have the means, from seeking succor in other countries like Nigeria. Either we take the fight to Liberia and Sierra Leone or eventually fight it here in Nigeria. Time to act is NOW!

No country approaches a State within another sovereign country for any kind of help. Besides, the EVD control center in Lagos is not run by the LASG, it is being managed by the Ministry of Health. Liberian Government cannot approach Lagos State government for any kind of help, same way Nigeria cannot approach the California State for any kind of help.

The best that happened in this case is that the LASG collaborated with the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Health. The Director should not pretend that LASG was responsible for the EVD control efforts, no. FMH was. State Ministries of Health supported mainly from enlightenment drive, the very type that the director was doing when he/she made that statement.

Honestly, sometime I wonder the kind of educated people on this forum. You mean Lagos state can act in isolation in dealing with other countries without the permission of the federal government?

Nigerians should be happy that EVD was imported through a wealthy and recognized mad man, it would've been a different scenario, were it to be by a poor man through one of our porous borders.

It would've been devastating and had to control, had EVD broken out through the village, where EVD awareness is very low and coupled with low sanitation.

Yea, we need to support them financially and also if there are health workers who are ready to go over there to help.
