The United Progressive Party (UPP)
has congratulated the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) for adopting
President Goodluck Jonathan as its
sole candidate for the 2015
presidential election.
It also congratulated Jonathan over
his adoption by the PDP.

In a statement issued by the party’s
National Publicity Secretary of the
party, Ogbuehi Dike, at the weekend,
UPP said PDP’s action has saved the
party and the general public the
distraction of a possible rancorous
and bitter presidential primary
election.

The party maintained that Nigeria
does not require any more heated
contests for party nomination at this
time of restiveness in the country.
UPP urged the opposition All
Progressive Congress (APC) to
emulate PDP and use its internal
mechanism to put its best candidate
forward for the 2015 presidential
election through a consensus
arrangement.

The party said, on its part, “We have
not left Nigerians in doubt as to the
fact that our presidential candidate
for the 2015 election shall emerge
from the South-East geopolitical
zone”.
