Obiano Commissions Diagnostic Center, Re-constructs General Hospital Onitsha

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has commissioned the Sun Medical Diagnostic Center, an ultra-modern diagnostic center located within the premises of the General Hospital in Onitsha.

Performing the ceremony in Onitsha, Governor Obiano expressed optimism that the center would serve as a viable alternative to Nigerians who travel overseas in search of superior medical diagnosis as it is fully equipped with the latest facilities in modern medical research.

As part of the efforts to drive home the need for proper diagnosis of ailments before treatment, the governor announced that the Sun Medical Diagnostic Center would provide a free diagnosis to people between Monday and Friday next week and urged Onitsha residents to take advantage of the opportunity to attend to their medical needs.

Chief Willie Obiano, Governor of Anambra State, his wife, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu and Dr. Joseph Akabuike, Commissioner for Health inspecting facilities in Onitsha General Hospital.
The governor who also used the opportunity to formally inaugurate the renovation and reconstruction of the Onitsha General Hospital further explained that on completion, the hospital would among other things, house specialist areas in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and internal medicine, saying that it would also accommodate standard accident and emergency units with an airfield for the landing of helicopters to ensure a speedy movement of patients in and out of the hospital.

According to him, also being planned are quarters for all categories of health workers, a pharmaceutical block and a laboratory as well as some isolation wards for contagious medical cases. The governor explained that the project was in fulfillment of his campaign promise to evolve a structured health system that would pave the way for medical tourism in the state and discourage Nigerians from seeking medical help overseas.

Governor Obiano further explained that the General Hospitals in Ekwulobia and Enugu Ukwu would also be developed in a similar way to serve the people of Anambra South and Central respectively while the ongoing renovation work on all the 37 general hospitals in the state would be accelerated to ensure completion on schedule.

The governor also restated the resolve of his administration to entrench a standard medical practice in the state using the latest technology and specialist skills supported by a public-private partnership arrangement that would be driven by experts in properly defined medical practice.

Dr. Paul Ezeukwu, Chief Willie Obiano, Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, Dr. Joseph Akabuike, Commissioner for Health and Hon Dubem Obaze, Secretary to the State Government.
He also noted that a primary health agency that had just been signed into law would help to reposition and revitalize all primary health centers across the state while a legal framework would soon be put in place to rid the state of quacks.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Akabuike explained that when fully renovated, the Onitsha General Hospital would serve as a training center for house-officers and resident doctors in different areas of medicine.

In his own remarks, the Medical Director of the Sun Medical Diagnostic Center Dr. Paul Ezeukwu said the center has enough capacity to meet the medical examination needs of the people as it enjoys the collaborative partnership of some reputable laboratories in the US and further assured that the center would extend its expertise to other laboratories and hospitals in the state for a more comprehensive coverage.

Dr. Ezeukwu also declared the readiness of his group to partner with the Obiano administration to set up a world class cancer center that would be the first of its kind in the South East of Nigeria and urged fellow indigenes of Anambra State to bring home their investments now that Governor Obiano had created a favourable environment for all.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the construction company that is handling the renovation and construction of Onitsha General Hospital, Prof. Michael Obiefuna noted that Governor Obiano’s determination to upgrade quality health services in Anambra State would help to increase the life expectancy of the people and reverse the neglect of general hospitals.

I am highly excited that Governor Obiano finally wants to implement world class hospital systems in Nigeria.

I had always wondered why we could comfortably afford to spend N2-5 billion naira to build roads which often breakdown in a few years but we cannot afford to spend the same amount to build world class hospital edifices which lasts for hundreds of years and help save countless millions of lives!

I thank Obiano for the courage to change things and bring world best standards to Anambra. I wish he would build one of these types of general hospitals abroad, which actually serve towns smaller than the population of Ihiala!

Like the man who dared to build the 1st Palms shopping Mall in Lagos, which inspired and triggered a new era of building modern shopping malls in Nigeria, I hope Gov. Obiano's bold effort would inspire and trigger a new era of building world standard hospitals in Nigeria.

Building modern hospital structures is one thing i pray takes root in Nigeria.
Dr.Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr.Michael Opara all built bungalow hospitals in those days because there was scarcely any money and many many projects had to be built in the newly independent country. Currently, my heart bleeds each time i see politicians in this present day, building mushroom structures as hospitals or universities simply because in 1960, the first buildings were bungalow structures.

Even "poor" African countries such as Namibia with tiny national budget comparable to an average Nigerian state budget, now build modern hospitals or university buildings such as the example in the picture.

Namibia poor? Don't say that again o. If not because of the black man's corruption mentality, Namibia should be among the most comfortable countries to live in worldwide. Their income per capita is high even morethan some European countries. Though the wealth of the country is controlled by a greedy few while majority live in poverty. The population of the country is very small, even smaller than Anambra state but they have a lot of wealth from natural resources like Diamond or so.

You are right, Namibia's population is small.
But Namibia is still not a rich country. Its budget is scarcely above the budget of Nigerian richest states. Yet, non of those states have a real city close to windhoek.Lagos is what it is because it had been the Federal Capital of Nigeria.

Yet, Namibia also has an armed forces, Police and embassies around the world which it supports. While non of these Nigerian states need to worry about that.

It needs to be at least 2 floors to reach 22,000sq m in Enugu. If it has escalators, it must be at least 2 floors in some sections as some pics appear to be two floors though.

I am so happy Obiano is pursuing this project to a logical conclusion. This project will definitely put Onitsha on the face of key destination cities in Africa

That is the million dollars question!

In the light of the projected fall in revenue due to low oil price, it may be wise to prioritize which of the malls gets finished first.
Perhaps, the Onitsha Mall should be focused on and completed this year. While the Nnewi and Awka malls will be the center of focus next year and completed too.

More from Onitsha Mall Under construction..

I hope they use transparent roofing materials a lot, so that natural lighting for inside of the mall saves a huge deal on electricity cost of running the mall. Which will help make the stores more affordable.

Now, Can we have a General hospital building in Onitsha which is 15,000 sq.m containing all state of the art equipment such as CT scan,MRI, Cardiac units, Cancer Unit, Diabetes Unit and other medical specialties?

We have come to an age where we should aspire for such standard things and leave the old vision of building poultry-like buildings as our hospitals.

Bro, we all have our aim of coming here. Some come here to enjoy pictures, some come here to engage in tribal tirades or which Igbo state is superior.Mine is to help policy makers who may be here with many options about how they may improve the society. My contributions are not for your "excitement" or likeness. If not, i won't be wasting my time and data. As you may have guessed, my contributions are exactly to criticize the fine details and suggest probable measures to address them, in the hope it would lead to an even better outcome. Like i would always suggest having gutters on both sides of a road, because i want the roads to last longer in their pristine state.

I saw that suggestion about transparent roof on the contractor's web page and decided to borrow it.
Again, you donot know if I'm an engineer. So leave me to spoil my contribution the way i see fit. cheesy

^^Cj, I understand your point but the mall is not for everybody. The quality should not be tampered with. It was designed to be an upscale five star facility and they should maintain the quality so far without compromising. The mall and 5 star hotel around will have a dedicated ipp energy supply. So energy supply is no longer an issue.

More like work has taken off at the airport dual carriageway. See the highlighted part!

In line with the policy of opening up roads leading to the food baskets and agrarian communities in the hinterland of the state, Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has embarked on the construction of the longest bridge of 200 metres in addition to several road projects in Anambra East and Anambra West local government areas. The roads include the second phase of the Umeze – Anam – Mmiata – Nzam Road in Anambra West and Aguleri – Nando Road, as well as Meze Idigo Street, Justice Chinwuba Street, Premier Street, First Bank Street, and Okonkwo Manafa Street, Ama-igwe Square and major erosion control project, all in Aguleri, Anambra East.

Flagging off the second phase of about 11 kilometres Umueze – Anam – Mmiata – Nzam Road with a major bridge during the week, Governor Obiano said that the government would spend a total sum of N10 billion on the projects, which would be completed in three years. Obiano, who also commissioned the Mmiata Electricity project, stated that “the road is of strategic importance as it traverses major food-producing communities and farm settlements, and when completed, would boost socio-economic activities in the area. Rest assured that my administration would continue to spread democracy dividends to all parts of the State, your duty is to give APGA victory by voting for the party’s flag bearers in the coming elections in order to sustain the course of good governance.”

The governor noted that all the access roads in the area were constructed by APGA government in addition to other developmental projects in education, electricity, water, health, and other sectors and urged the people to reciprocate the gesture by voting massively for all APGA candidates in the coming elections.

The Commissioner for Works, Sir Callistus Ilozumba, recalled the deplorable condition of the road and its difficult terrain before the intervention of the State government, and assured that when completed, it would have all the components of a standard road. Sir Ilozumba observed that the government embarked on urban upgrading of projects in all parts of the State to further improve mass infrastructural development and noted that, when completed, the projects would give the area a facelift.

The traditional ruler of Aguleri, Igwe Christopher Idigo, thanked the governor for his various ongoing projects in the area and urged the people to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for the coming elections.

Earlier, the Chairman, Anambra East Local Government Council, Mr. Hillary Udawo, said the governor had remained responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people.

The member representing Anambra West in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Okoye, said when completed the road would give access to all parts of the LGA and noted that governor Obiano had kept his word as he had continued to fulfill promises made to the people.

Earlier, the Chairman, Anambra West council, Simon Onuorah, disclosed that the intervention had brought a new dawn to the area.

Governor Obiano who also inaugurated six roads namely Meze Idigo Street, Justice Chinwuba Street, Premier Street, First Bank Street, Okonkwo Manafa Street and Ama-igwe Square and major erosion control project, all in Aguleri, revealed that the projects would cost N1 billion, with a completion period of one year. He said that the project would be extended to other internal roads in the area and enjoined residents of the area to give the contractor total support to deliver on schedule.

Speaking while flagging off the 7.8 kilometre Aguleri – Nando Road awarded at the cost of N2 billion, Obiano stated that the project would be completed within 12 months. The governor said that his administration was depending on huge resources to open up rural communities, stressing that the mass infrastructural development in rural communities would enhance effective harnessing of human and material resources as well as bridge the gap between urban and rural areas. According to Obiano, the projects would fast-track physical development and attract investments to the area, and assured that the road would have street light and other road infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Works recalled that no single road was tarred in the area before the inception of APGA government and noted that governor Obiano in fulfillment of his promise embarked on many road projects in the area, including the dual carriage access roads to the airport site at Umueri.

He explained that the road would provide major access to Otuocha and alternative route to other parts of the State and assured that the project was awarded to a competent contractor to deliver best quality.

In his remarks, the member representing Anambra East in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Obinna Emenaka, thanked the governor for giving the community access to the outside world and noted that the governor was living up to expectation. One of the contractors handling the projects, in the area, Chief Adolf Izuegbu, said the governor was determined to transform the State and raise the standard of living of the people.http://newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=9366&title=Obiano-embarks-on-N10bn-longest-bridge,-massive-road-projects-in-Anambra-East/West

I know you are referring to Buddah who saw Obiano's investments on infrastructural development in Anambra north areas as being clannish. The fact is that Anambra north deserves all they are getting because that zone has given Anambra a lot including the Oil/Gas and refinery so they deserve more to effectively kickstart new frontiers on economic boom. Moreover that zone is the future base of Anambra's economy because they have the airport, oil/gas, arable land for commercial farming etc

Hahahaha, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has promised to write a comprehensive article on the "third class performance of Peter obi." grin grin grin grin

I read some of the responses to my article, “Buhari vs Jonathan: Beyond the Election”, and I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the debate. I am glad that the debate has finally taken off. I have decided, for the record, to re-enter the debate if only to set some records straight and hopefully elevate the debate further. Whom do I respond to?
First, let me thank Gov Kayode Fayemi for his very mature and professional response on behalf of
the APC. It forms a great basis for deepening the conversation. Pat Utomi, Oby Ezekwesili, Iyabo
Obasanjo, and thousands of other patriotic Nigerians have raised the content of the debate. Femi
Fani-Kayode made me laugh, as usual. The Gov. Jang faction of the Governors’ Forum played the usual politics, although I know what most of them think
privately. Who else? Oh, Peter Obi. Well, since he can’t write and designated Valentine as usual to
write for him (who never disputed the NBS statistics that Obi broke world record in the pauperization
of Anambra people but instead focused on lies and abuses) I won’t dignify him with a response here. His third class performance in Anambra will be the subject of a comprehensive article

This guy has gone far beyond what every day Nigerian governors does. Nigerian governors should come and under-study this dude..

OBIANO MOUNTS SOLAR POWERED POLICE CONTROLLED BOOTH

The Executive Governor of Anambra State, Dr Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano in his continued efforts to sustain the battle against criminals in Anambra State is set to mount sophisticated solar powered police control booths with USB port.
The Control booths with options for CCTV will enable the Police capture real time events from their various control centers. The idea of the solar power is to ensure that there is constant light at the control booths and the USB port will guarantee that their communication equipments such as phones and other rechargeables are function ready
.

It must be recalled that various communities in Anambra State testified that last Christmas holiday was celebrated without the usual sad stories of kidnap, robbery and other criminal acts. Just for the records, the only Kidnap attempt at NIMO was foiled and the kinapped rescued within 24 hours - KUDOS to Gov. Willie Obiano for his initiative to launch Operation Sheba specifically for the Christmas holiday in anticipation of surprises from criminals.

A reputable business mogul in Anambra State disclosed that the Executive Governor of Anambra State literarily saved the state and her indigenes over 4 Billion naira which is what people would have spent to provide individual security for themselves. Most citizens spend over 100 thousand daily on security, engaging the services of up to 12 Mobile Policemen a day but last christmas was an exception. People moved around with ease. The air of freedom was everywhere. 6.pm curfew is now a thing of the past in Anambra State. People drive from Asaba and Enugu to Anambra State as late as 11pm without fear of robbery or kidnap. The yardstick for safety last December was your proximity to Anambra State. The closer you are to Anambra State the safer you feel. It is a wonderful feeling.

Governor Willie Obiano assured Anambra indigenes during his campaign that his government will CONTINUE, COMPLETE, COMMISSION, AND COMMENCE new projects. He is a student of continuity and he has kept his eyes on the ball in the continuity project. We owe him our support so he will continue to deliver for us.

Remember to VOTE for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in the forthcoming election and for all APGA candidates in the rest.

Support Gov. Willie Obiano and APGA in Anambra State, Vote for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and other APGA candidates and Continue to receive the dividends of democracy.

Obiano is doing a wonderful job by diversifying the economy of Anambra. Just like someone said, the completion of the Onitsha mall as well as both the Nnewi and Awka mall will put the state in the circle of world business activities. However, I don't buy the idea of concentrating much development to one zone (Anambra north) as proposed by Obiano. You cannot have a commercial airport, a refinery/petro-chemical hub as well as the Agro belt of the state in close proximity. It may brew conflict of interest.
