That wasn't the career I chose. Army recruits in the UK earn very close to the minimum wage. A policeman should actually earn significantly more than a soldier considering the work they do.

The same is applicable in the rest of Europe. Recruits in most EU countries earn slightly above minimum wage. A salary of between N50k and N80k for a Nigerian soldier recruit is a fantastic salary within the Nigerian context.

The soldier's family situation and lifestyle will determine whether the salary is enough for him or not. Some of them even have more than one wife.

95% of our soldiers were actually idle before the Boko haram terror broke out. In peace time, they are well paid. Nigeria has no major war to prosecute right now. Fighting BH is not a major war. Many soldiers in the South of Nigeria are still not doing much.

80k is nt bad for a recruit soldier when a civil servant earns lesser than 18k for GL 01.

Its not just the salary that makes them to vex.

Guy, most people doing their jobs are suffering and smiling. There are many aspects of job satisfaction and salary is just one of it. Even bankers who earn above N200,000 per month complain on their jobs. When you are bound to work willy nilly, how do you expect the worker to be happy ?

The money is just a compensation and it is not enough for all round job satisfaction. A person like me cannot work for any force or military outfit for any amount. I so love my freedom..

Even captain and lieutenant guys I have met complain once in a while about separation from family...
