Muscomide: What igbos don't want is an islamic extremist becoming the president of nigeria. There still some good northerners, people like col. Abubakar umar, vice president sambo, david mark etc. We do not want an islamist period 2 Likes |

I Muscomide: This is an excellent contribution. I must say you wrote well. You are not far from the truth. But the fact remains that the hate did not start today. It's a long time and a long story. IGBOS were hated all over the country. IGBOS are free minded people. They love to interact with other tribes and even marry other tribes. Up until ow, the igbos have not changed, they still love to live anywhere in the country, do their bypusiness, have their kids and even build houses outside their region. What have we gotten for all these, HATE from the north and south west. It was obviously displayed when LAGOS callously deported innocent people claiming they were destitutes. The governor of LAGOS is a lawyer who knows the law and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, but out of hate, he chose to ignore that constitution and did as it pleased he and his cohort. That action resonated across the nation and we knew what almost came out of it if not that the presidency stood its ground to halt such nefarious exercise. Today we have GEJ in Aso rock, a northern Muslim doesn't want to see him there, and joined by the hate southwest unrepentantly has for the people of SE and SS, they joined in calling for GEJ's head even when it is obvious the president is trying in all standard. Now, 80% of our revenue comes from oil and gas. Where do these products come from? From the Niger delta, South south. This is the first time a man from that minority's region is leading this country. Haba, for CHRIST sake, why can we allow him run this country peacefully. If for nothing else, even if he wants a second term, it is justifiable and equitable, we should support him to perform well while in office. But he'll NO, what we have from the north is hate, south west, hate, especially from the southwest muslims. We've had 80% of our heads of state and presidents come from the north, why can't we give GEJ a chance to work. The north is acting the way they act now because they are more in the army, and secondly, they don't have investments outside their region. So they feel don't have anything to lose. But we will keep our fingers crossed. As you rightly said, they are replaying what led to civil war in 1967. May God help us all. 1 Like |

vanunu: Making an Islamist a president of a nation is an express approval to sharia law, impunity and terrorism. It MUST be resisted. It almost consumed Egypt, but they were able to remove that tyrant called Morsi. It should not even happen in Nigeria talk less of removing an Islamic tyrant. 1 Like |

lastpage:GEJ is on a divine mission to rebuild Nigeria. There are actually several shortcut solutions to fixing Nigeria and few long term painstaking solutions. The shortcut solutions are drastic and portends the risk of blowing out of control, while the long term is a gradual, tolerant, considered, accomodating process that integrates all the factors and eventually snowballs into a renaissance. He has just almost completed the first stage, we have actually seen very little in terms of the type development we crave, but brace up for the next tenure. Take it from me GEJ is going to win and we'll all realise he isn't clueless afterall. |

Good people of Nigeria Dedicated members of Nairaland This here is an opportunity to express ourselves and what we learn on NL the quotes , the comments , the posts all somehow becomes a part of us ! We have to learn to let go of the past. Yes we weren't there when Nigeria was made , we have heard stories , read stories seen movies and stuffs. Depending on the author each story is prejudiced We have Nigeria ,we are Nigerians and there's nothing we can do about that . I for one know that international bodies would not sit around and let anyone force Sharia law on a Christian dominated country We can't keep complaining about the past. Rather we should try to make the past the reason to make future better and it starts with all of us. Stop the hating . Stop the complaining. I want and hope someone somewhere would start a thread to suggest how to deal with Boko Haram menace . Doing nothing will not help anyone of us. Blaming anyone won't either. As citizens we have the right to dictate what we want to the few elite running the country. Now , will you be an active participant in making a new Nigeria or would you rather sit behind your phones or computers and enjoy being the solo e warrior ? 1 Like 1 Share |

django1: You don't have to read it, it's obvious you supported that deportation action. I don't care what you think about what I wrote, it's because of people like you that this ethnic hatred will never stop. Always in denial of the obvious. You want me to show you who destitutes are? Rubbish. Until Religion and ethnicity is removed from our constitution, we cannot not forward as a nation, rather we are destined to break up. |

and somebody will come up here to say GEJ till 2030. If one employs a manager and the manager has worked for 15 year and also failed for 15 years. I think he should be sacked. PDP have lack the capacity to tackle security and employment problems facing Nigeria. Allow PDP and it flag bear ear for another 4 year and suffere another 5 years. |

Muscomide: Good Post! About a year ago, l made similar analysis, when Igbos were all over the place abusing Yorubas and calling them NAMES! I asked them how they hope to realize "An Igbo President" if they take Yorubas as their perceived enemy? Except in a Military Coup! I also reminded the Igbos (and this is where l think your analysis missed a bit of "History", that the Yorubas DID NOT ALIGN WITH THE HAUSAS, AGAINST THE IGBOS! For the sake of he young ones who dont know the history and only relied on the Propaganda they are fed by their parents, here is a very brief summary: 1.) There were Coups and counter-coups by Igbos first and then Hausas where the Igbos killed mostly Hausa leaders like Tafawa Balewa and in the counter-coup, Hausas killed the likes of Aguiyi Irosnsi. I will not justify the 'right or wrong' of those killings here. But worthy of note isthe fact that though Yoruba military officers were killed in both Coups, Yorubas did not make any counter-coup back then. 2.) The North did not stop at killing Igbo military officers but went on to killing mostly Igbos living Up North. This set the stage for the Biafran agitation, and rightly so to! 3.) The Northerners did not stop at killing Igbos, they killed anyone who is not an "Hausa Muslim" living in the north but being that Igbos are most-migratory, they suffered most. 4.) Awolowo was the leader and Premier of the Yorubas (Western region) and in discussion with Igbo leaders, Ojukwu in particular, a set of "conditions" were put on the table for the Northerners (who have hijacked power by then) to accept otherwise (at Aburi conference), the two other Regions (Igbo and Yoruba nations)are ready to pull out of Nigeria, as a nation. 5.) Ojukwu already made up his mind on pulling out, acceptance or not. Apart from the fact that his people are being killed in the North, he also has a very strong ambition/desire to "Rule as President". This much was confirmed when he came back from exile, after his pardon, to STILL CONTEST FOR PRESIDENT, UNDER THE NIGERIAN FLAG! That is a clear sign of that innate desire. mind you, he is entitled to aspire to be President as a bonafide citizen! Awolowo was already a "de facto president of the Western region, so to say, back then. 6.) Without waiting for "his partner", knowing fully well that he could not "go it alone" (or maybe driven excessively by his own desire to be president), Ojukwu UNILATERALLY DECLARED SECESSION OF BIAFRA! He knew what would follow would be war! That is how it goes in most countries ruled by the military. Secession means WAR, back then. Even Ukraine as of today is a similar example. 7.) Granted that Ojukwu, aside his own innate ambition, was "protecting the course of his Igbo people", he was expecting, naively though, the Yorubas to FOLLOW his decision. He wanted to "Force the hand of the Yoruba nation into war! This is where he made a very bad calculation! And l will explain: Every "Leader' takes the interest of his people upper most in his decision-making. Going to war is not moin-moin, millions of lives will be lost, for the cause. *Ojukwu did not wait for the green-light from Awolowo. *Ojukwu was prepared to prosecute this war, he had allies, weapons and the support of his people, l will assume. *The Yorubas were not ready to go to war at that point. *The Yorubas, "militarily", were in a bad state of preparedness. Most of the military formations in the West were overseen by Northerners, with Lagos being the federal capital back then. * To go to WAR at that point will mean suicide for the Yorubas. *Ojukwu did not take the interest of the Yorubas into consideration before UNILATERALLY DECLARING SECESSION ..and WAR, expecting a "Blind Followership" from Awolowo, the Yoruba premier! 8.) Like Ojukwu, ...Awolowo also has the "interest of his people to protect" and he was aware that taking them to war, simply because Ojukwu has declared war, is suicide. Awolowo did what any honest leader would do: HE STAYED OUT OF THE WAR..... at the beginning. 9.) So the war started as a direct confrontation between Hausas and Igbos. 10.) Lagos is Yorubaland (never mind that it is very receptive to other nations).. and was the Capital back then. Ojukwu continually attacked Lagos, still Yorubas kept out of the war. 11.) Ojukwu was hell-bent on drawing the Yorubas into this war (his strategy was that the Hausa cant fight both nations at the same time, correct as this strategy is, it did not take into consideration, the preparedness and "capital nature" of Lagos! Most countries defend the Capital and is always the last place to fall! 12.) Yorubas still refuse to be drawn into the war..... until Ojukwu started encroaching Southwards towards "core-Yoruba towns", one after the other. Instead of attacking Northwards, Ojukwu was attacking South_Westwards! One after the other, he demolished South-Western states, southwards of the Niger Bridge... until he got to Oore in Ondo state 13.) Oore is just a few kilometers to Ijebu ode and Ibadan. That was when Awolowo realized that Ojukwu is not happy enough to defend his territory or attack those Hausas that he has a problem with; he wanted to force Yorubas into a suicidal war! Be honest and put your self in the shoes of Awolowo: Will you secede knowing that the whole west is "colonized by these Gworo-eating Military Battalion and get annihilated or would you "use wisdom" and stay NEUTRAL, out of the war? 14.) Awolowo sent messages to Ojukwu to desist from attacking Yoruba towns but Ojuwu will not heed this advice and thus, Yorubas were left with NO OTHER OPTION than to DEFEND THEIR TOWNS.... even if it means acting on the side of the 'NIGERIAN MILITARY"! This is the TRUTH MOST IGBOS DONT WANT TO HEAR or TELL THEIR OFFSPRINGS! The rest they say is "History".... it happened over forty years ago!... and maybe it explains this "hatred and distrust" that Igbos have for Yorubas but in ACTUAL FACT, this "hatred and Distrust" is MIS-DIRECTED! As a Yoruba, l can honestly tell you that Yorubas remain the best option for Igbos, to achieve ANYTHING in Nigeria, including actualization of Biafra! For one, Yorubas dont hate Igbos (we are irritated by their rabid vituperations against us though) but best of all, Yorubas have this mentality of "fairness, calmness of spirit and native intelligence that derives from such disposition". Though Igbos "mis-interprete" it as COWARDICE! But Wole Soyinka did remind us that "Bravery is not found in reckless display of aggression and lack of wisdom"! (sic) Again, 1967 seems to be playing out in a different manner. If the Igbo truly want to be free of the Northerner (never mind that Goodluck is not actually Igbo, any Ijaw or or ishekiri will tell you they are not Ibos! ), they MUST look Westwards! Can they? Will they? Time will tell. Lastpage! NB: Please feel free to disagree with my post and respond civilly, we all learn as we discuss. |

H babestella: Thanks for your input. Unlike you however, I do not agree that President Jonathan is 'trying'. You seem to have a kind of 'persecution complex' which makes you think that people are against you because you are of Igbo or South-South extraction. Are we to settle for mediocrity in office merely because this President is from the Niger Delta, the goose that lays the golden eggs? Jonathan is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Office with all the paraphernalia of office at his disposal. With the might of the armed forces at his disposal, it is his duty to ensure that the country is peaceful for us all. That is the contract we signed with him four years ago when he was voted into office. In what way is GEJ 'trying' exactly, pray tell? Whilst in the throes of what I term your 'persecution complex', you conveniently forget that Obasanjo, a Yoruba from the South-west was instrumental in GEJ's ascendancy to the pinnacle of political power in Nigeria. How soon you forget the role played by the same South-West you now denigrate when Yar-Adua died and the Northern Cabal were scheming to prevent a Vice-President Jonathan from succeeding the late Yar-Adua. You see to the Yoruba, what is right is right, and what is wrong is wrong. There is no in-between. By his inept, incompetent and weak Presidency, Jonathan has wastefully squandered the massive goodwill reposed in him four years ago. For this reason and this reason only, is he going to lose the support of the South-West at next year's elections. In trying to divide Yoruba votes by introducing religion into Yoruba politics, Jonathan is further pursuing his divide and rule agenda. If Jonathan and his advisers understand the sophistication of the Yoruba electorate, they will know that they are bound to fail in this. What unites Yoruba is a shared cultural heritage, language and history, not whether one worships on a Friday or a Sunday. 2 Likes |
