Is the COAS himself a wartime General? How many times has he been at the frontline in his career?
People join the army for a myriad of reasons but this is hardly the avenue for you to carry out your hate campaign. Allow us grieve here.

''Most pple want jobs, even if it means joining the Army when the reality of military service comes he drops his rifle & runs away"

Lt Gen KTJ Minimah
Chief of Army Staff

That quote was referring to some conscript that joined the rank and file.
The deceased is an NDA graduate, part of the officer corps, a career military man and a leader of men by training.

Your rants only portray you as someone who is poorly educated. Retreat is never strictly cowardice, and sometimes a strategic retreat is the best act of generalship an officer can muster, especially when the odds are overwhelmingly against you.

Hitler lost 300000 men, the cream of the german army because he refused to strategically retreat from Stalingrad when his Generals desperately tried to show him the pincer trap Stalin was cooking up for him around Stalingrad.

Honestly.
This just unfair.
They are busy blaming usa for our poor armory. Times without number, nigerians have asked, "cant we buy from other countries that dont give a damn about usa?"
We are at war and men are dying everyday for goodness sake!

It is an assumption that we made an official requisition to the USA for arms procurement and were refused it is not proven and or substantiated by any Nigerian and or USA Officials. This discourse is currently lost in cheap gutter politicking by Nigeria politicians.

An official requisition order for arms procurement will be specific about weapon systems types and quantity as well as payment terms. If there are controversial aspects of this requisition it is not unknown for it be a subject of various USA congressional select committees before approval is granted.

Nigeria has not completed any of these formalities with regard to USA arms procurement.

Instead we have continued to use middlemen as opposed to direct government to government procurement with the whole transaction shrouded in subterfuge. The reasons are simplistic but very familiar in the context of Nigeria – CORRUPTION our penchant for kick back, over inflation , superfluous consultation fees makes the USA and indeed most Western nations unattractive on account of high level of probity. This makes the option of China, Ukraine and Russia more amiable to us where such practices are common place.

Talking about being poorly educated, do you know the meaning of ''conscripts''? When last did the Nigerian Army conscript anyone? Not since the civil war. What has your NDA crap got to do with the issue at hand? Below are more quotes from the Chief of Army staff, it contains views I have long held and can attest to.
Can you point out where he was referring to ''conscripts''? That is if your so called sound education taught you the meaning of that word.
Blaming it on the fact that most people, who joined the military in recent times, do so out of the need for employment and not passion for military service, Minimah said, “Desertion is part of warfare.
We must accept that since the era of the Cartagena wars, soldiers had deserted from battle field. In our own case, we are doing recruitment now and we are also receiving presentations from across the country, from people who want their wards to be enlisted in the army”.
Are your NDA graduates somehow exempted from those who joined the military for the sole reason of making money?
“But we need to have a thorough recruitment because mind you, there is high level of unemployment on ground; most people want jobs and if that job means joining the army fine. It is a source of employment.

Since I became aware and am very mature now, Defence has always been allocated the largest amount in our budget. So, that's the reason for our Generals being stupendously rich. Aha boko haram has exposed them.

So bottom line is that you claim that pulling back or retreating is a sign of cowardice.

I'm going through your post history, strangely haven't seen you accuse the Biafran Army of cowardice after losing ground to the Nigerian Army incursions. Also haven't seen you accuse the late Ojukwu of cowardice when he escaped the theater of war.

Why the inconsistency?

An AK47 is a rugged, reliable, easy to clean, and devastatingly effective close-quarters assault rifle that is IDEALLY suited for the alternately sandy and muddy conditions in the part of the country where Nigeria's war on terror is being waged, so, all the armchair quarter-masters should go back to the comfort of their living room couches to resume their Playstation video adventures, so that the real logistics of battle can be left to the professionals trained and paid for that job.

When a war breaks out, fighters on both sides are certain to die in combat, and in freak battle-front accidents. Blaming the make and model of rifle issued to the Nigerian army every time a casualty of war is recorded makes about as much sense as blaming the invention of the motor car every time there is a road accident.

So, to the internet gun experts who want to see "sophisticated weapons" in the hands of foot soldiers, you will need to look towards the Middle East, where night vision gear, portable surveillance drones, robotic gun platforms and laser target-designators to guide missile strikes, are standard issue for ground forces in the Israeli military, for example.

Back in black Africa, however, the business of infantry combat on the ground is grimy, dusty, muddy, bloody, and utterly chaotic. It is for those precise conditions that the AK47 rifle was designed, which explains why that rifle remains far and away the most common sight on battlefields the world over, as it has for many decades since the original AK was invented by Mikhail Kalasnikov in 1947.

By all means, do voice your support for increased air strikes by federal jets, and for urgent Western military assistance to further the prosecution of Nigeria's war on terror, but do NOT disparage the always mighty AK47 rifle, for it has served on the WINNING side of many a skirmish.

If people like this hero, can sacrifice their lives for folks like you an me, why cant the the heads of the Nation who are meant to be the chief servant of the people? This soldier was a young man with all of his life ahead of him yet he gave it for the nation but the majority of our leaders are old men. This lieutenant, could have had the girls, a house, the opportunity to see the world, to see what the future holds, the movies to come, the technological innovations, his children grow, sit at home with his grand children, make peace with god and so on but he lost all that in order to ensure that young people in the North may have the chance to go to school, grow up in a safe environment and go out there into the world to fulfill their promise. On the other hand, the old men that lead us have had all the experiences that they are likely to have, they have lived, there's nothing more to come but a slow decline into old age and death. And yet they lack the courage to fully unleash the Military on the North East. They fear amnesty, they fear Northern opinion, they fear America, they fear this, they fear that- for Bleep sake go and deal with these terrorists, send special forces to remove Biya and Derby from office in Cameroon and Chad respectively, France be damned.

Rest in peace lieutenant Mayowa Areago.

How do you think MEND used to win so many engagements against the JTF during the Niger Delta insurrection? Element of surprise and ability to concentrate attacks at one point.

You could be in a convoy, barreling down the road, suddenly fighters take out the relatively thin-hulled APCs with RPGs. At the same time, machine gunners hiding in the bushes or up on the hills rake the convoy with heavy machine gun fire and grenades. You try to fight your way forward, but with the commander dead and lead vehicles ablaze, retreat can seem like the prudent option to prevent casualties going from 50 men to 500.

I'd lay the blame at the lack of coherent air support. Blame the FG for this...ever since the Niger Delta creek battles, we should have put a whole lot more effort in acquiring helicopter gunships for close support.

RIP Lt

I Strongly agree with you.
AK-47 – Semi or Fully Automatic Assault Rifle
The AK-47 is without a doubt the #1 rifle in the history of weapons. Well over 75 million of these assault rifles have been manufactured throughout the world. It is believed the AK-47 has inflicted more lethal shots than any other produced weapon.
The AK-47s design was based on the German Sturmgewehr chambering an intermediate round and using stamped parts, making it both easy and inexpensive to produce.
The AK-47 also proved to be easy to maintain and could survive just about every type of condition it was thrown into.
The amount of fire (600 rounds per minute) compensate for its average accuracy. The AK-47 has a 7.62 x 39mm caliber with a cartridge capacity of 30 and an average muzzle velocity of 2,329 feet/second.
The AK-47 is the most reliable assault rifle every made. In fact it can be speculated that 200 years from now someone will still be carrying this assault rifle.

The Nigeria Army is finished.
Because Enlistment is not based on merit.
People asking for better weapons, what do u recommend?
As long as I'm concerned, an AK47 should do the job

I wouldn't blame the FG but the age old military traditions instituted to kill merit for nepotism, creativity and passion for medocrity..everyone is into the army for monetary/social gains and we pretty sure none envisage the spectre that was BH never mind engaging them.Skirmishes like these never need aerial assets if they cannot be available but men who are not only well-trained but are bold and passionate?? enough to stand their grounds else a little frontal BH assault turns into a turkey-shoot at our expense.I can bet that mayowa was a victim of incoordination, cowardice and just plain fear on his part and that of his comrades...is it the fear of BH technicals? something a single well placed sniper/ sniper teams can pick off or the sight of gun wielding urchins streaming across the horizon? Another thing well placed GPMG emplacements can easily mow down. The NDA is graduating half baked student officers who cant command and control battlefield scenarios and crises thus setting them up for stories that touch....Or maybe the instructors are just useless desk officers.
