@OAM4J Mecure address is as stated by earlier respondents. Its within CWAY compound. Sorry for the late response. Lekki ph1 branch is close to the bustop by 1st gate, off Admiralty way. Its walking distance from the gate but I can't remember the street name. Not all tests are expensive considering their expertise. It depends on what is required. Basic comprehensive test (all vitals plus mammo/prostrate etc) is about 60k. The one that includes cancer screening is higher but after looking at the bills incurred so far with little progress I think we should try this and refer to the teaching hospitals for advice. Well done guys! Blessings shall flow your way ceaselessly. 1 Like |

I know someone who has been cured of breast cancer. Tests at Mecure, surgery and followup at OAUTH and radiotherapy at Eko Hospital. That is not to say DJDOLA should not be flown out of the country if it becomes more expedient. The important thing is correct diagnosis to know the stage ( if any ) and prompt treatment. 1 Like |

aisha2: You people are still not getting us. We contacted HCG in India, we sent them all the reports we had so far. They later sent us their bill and treatment plan which includes Chemotherapy. The Doctors walking with us like you also disagree with the chemotherapy in their treatment plan, so we have to shelve their proposal for the time being. The reality we have to adjust with is that salvation might not necessarily be in the name 'India Hospital', but in getting the right hospital with the best treatment plan anywhere it is. @OAM4J......you people are not getting us. Which comes first?...treatment or diagnosis? How can you treat .... chemotheraphy and whatever treatment plan ....if he is not diagnosed? If he is diagnosed we need to know...until then you guys are putting the cart before the horse. Thank you very much. 1 Like |

Originalsly: Bro, we have some test results already, though not fully conclusive on the exact problem yet, could be TB or cancer. The concluding tests we are told will be chest CT scan and Laparoscopy as explained in our last report. We are looking for the best place we can have these conclusive tests at the best price; reason why we checked Reddington, Paelon Memorial, Eko Hospital and AVLSC. And we reported our findings of these places already. Now some people are now suggesting we check Mecure also, and we are considering it. LCC where he met the Oncologist recommends he continue with the current TB treatment and they also called for some tests which we are yet to carry out considering the cost and trying to avoid repetition of tests. They can refer us to a place for Laparoscopy if we commence the tests they called for with them but we are considering and comparing cost. The place we were 1st referred to by Life Specialist quoted around N300k for Laparoscopy. We think it is too high. Some people suggested we forward the results we have so far to HCG in India and get their opinion. It costs us nothing to do that while we are still working to get a a conclusive diagnosis. So we mailed them and they replied us among other things; their treatment plan and cost of treatment base on the test results we have so far. Doctors working with us disagree with chemotherapy included in their treatment plan. TB is currently being treated as it is one of the suspected problems and the cost of treatment is not much. Fortunately the relief Ahmed is having is due to that treatment. Against all odds, we are praying and hoping Ahmed only has TB and not cancer, but Laparoscopy will be the conclusive test. I hope this explanation is detailed now. 15 Likes 1 Share |

@OAM4J....thanks for the details which raises more questions. Follow me here with an open mind. It's been narrowed down to either TB or cancer. TB treatment is working. Why not focus on TB?....getting him to a TB specialist or whatever to know for sure? Why are we at an oncologist?....a cancer specialist? Of course he would run the Laparoscopy tests to find out if he has cancer...which is not cheap. Besides that DJ's condition is not one suitable for running a Laparoscopy test....the consulting doctors should know the high risk of collateral damage that can result in carrying out such a test which I think is unnecessary. We are dealing with a human life here....not a lab rat which can just be cast aside if things don't work out. Abeg...let's get off this cancer trip and focus on TB...wonder why the very cancer specialists are advising he continue the TB treatment? If DJ were taken to a dentist he would advise the same but be running tests for cavities etc. Abeg...I'm just venting...don't take it personally....it may come across as rude as well but it's just the passion in me. I'm not in the medical field but can sense we are being taken for a ride....again. One goal...that DJ be cured. I'll take a break for a while. 1 Like |

@Originalsly 1. • TB can co-exist with cancer. . • Because he is responding to TB does not mean it is TB. The "improvement" might just be a temporal fix 2. Our doctors are the ones asking for a Laparoscopy. And what makes you think Hameed's condition is not suitable for a Laparoscopy? 3. We can't get off the cancer angle until we rule it out as the tests we have done points to it. What happens if we focus on TB and it turns out he has cancer and we have wasted time? 4 Likes |
Re: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by Originalsly: 12:46pm On Dec 27, 2014 |
@Mynd44....1. TB can co exist with a long list of other infections , diseases and conditions including cancer and HIV. Are we going to test for and rule out the others too? Why cancer? Focus on the most likely one...TB because that is the one he is responding to....not saying he may not have other issues. 2. Laparascopy is specifically not advised for patients with swollen stomachs or excessive fluids in the stomach as is his case. The high risk involved in Laparoscopy is damage that can lead to internal bleeding or leakage of the bowel that would demand immediate Laparoscopic surgery. Are we ready for that?...Is LCC good at that? Why open a can of worms? 3. Not wasting time nor wasting money. Cancer is never an emergency so why the rush? Are people ever rushed to a hospital because of cancer? Let's deal with the TB....if it's not then we can look at the cancer angle. Not much difference in cancer condition in a month. LCC will bleed us dry because of fear...get him outta there. |

1. Other diseases have been examined and ruled out. What does it take to keep him on TB meds and then make sure it is not Cancer? It takes nothing from us or the patient 2. They are not just doing a Laparoscopy, all these are being put into perspective and if it is seen as too much of a risk, it will be called off. The doctors intend to check to make sure the fluid is not a problem before the procedure will be done. 3. Seriously? 2 Likes |

Every minute counts in stopping cancer. lt may not show any outward sign of progression but it spreads fast. possible treatment if cancer along with other ailment is no waste of time. we pray its not cancer though but we have to urgently rule it out with certainty. 2 Likes |

Cancer is an emergency and that is why people are running helter skelter looking for a diagnosis or preferably for it to be ruled out completely. Every second is crucial 4 Likes |

Lol....you guys kill me! ....but my bad!....meant cancer is not an emergency as in TB, Ebola, asthma, cholera or a heart attack. Is cancer serious?...yes and needs early detection as in HIV if is to be brought under control. Even if this case is cancer it will not be early stages and not much can be done. More arrows??...is all good! |

Is it just me or what? This diagnosis is taking FOREVER to arrive at for petesake!!! I know i recommended HCG but if TEHN is not comfortable with their recommended line of treatment then please also send the same test results to Appollo, Fortis hospitals etc in India for recommended line of treatment and estimate. You can go through google or health-tourism.com. select specialty, select country (India). The list of hospitals will come up as well as profiles of the specialists will prop up. You then send an email from there directly to the hospital. They dont waste time in responding. We can now have more opinions on recommended line of treatment. However my 2nd & 3rd choice will be Apollo and Fortis. If they still recommend Chemo maybe we just have to bite the bullet and hope it works of him. Time is of essence please. The cancer center in Nigeria is only offering palliatives does Tehn know what palliatives mean? For me i will say forget about that place. 1 Like |

@Crowns2, they also offer other treatments but the palliative is just an alternative. Just something basic. They did not say that's all they are giving |
