There is this new found vigour by the Nigerian masses, they now have a strong belief that their votes will count.

It has never happened in the history of this country.

Something must be responsible for this, I know some people will scream change but it goes beyond that.
For the first time we are looking forward to a free and fair contest. This is great for our democracy. The man responsible for this deserves commendation, appreciation and re-election. The masses in their freewill will elect President Jonathan. It is a way of telling politicians that power now reside in the masses bloc. The masses will also send strong message to failed people like Obasanjo and co that we(masses) are the true godfather and not some greedy old men. We shall return Jonathan to power!!!

Good write up OP.

Thank you....Its good to have such words coming from a fellow Nigerian, albeit in a different political camp. It shows we still appreciate the efforts of others. Thank you!

The only area I don't agree is how you think a PDP win will make Nigerians winner and make PDP sit up. If anything, a PDP win is a loss for Nigeria and will embolden PDP to continue in their usual ways.

What a PDP win will represent is a reward for failure of 16 ignoble years which is what we have done in the previous elections. Had we voted out PDP after four or eight years of OBJ's mediocre performance, perhaps an ACN presidency would have out-performed them for another four or eight years.

Do you really think a PDP win will lead to the following:

1. A serious war against corruption?
2. Discontinuation of awarding contracts to militants in the name of securing our pipelines? A constitutional responsibility of our Armed Forces?
3. Provision of adequate security to quickly dislodge insurgency whenever it rears its ugly head?
4. Accelerated provision of infrastructures?
5. Improvement in power supply?
etc., etc.

The fact that PDP has failed to even tackle one or two of these mentioned issues to national applause after 16 years at the center is enough for us Nigerians not to consider them worthy of another four years.

I also choose to disagree with you on all these points. I need not tell thee the PDP has learned its lesson, and what else could prove that other than the recent responsible steps( though there maybe some political underpinnings) Mr.President is taking? It has learned its lesson. Only fools will resent improvement when there is obvious reasons for it.

The PDP can only get better; its got no other choice. It will NEVER allow itself get boxed to the corner like it is today.

On the other hand and as you've rightly observed, an APC win will send a strong message not only to PDP but all other parties that it is the electorates who decide who rule them. PDP as an opposition party will re-organize and be confident of winning back the presidency should APC fail to deliver the goods.

Prof Jega, and by extension, President GEJ deserves all the accolades they can get.

But more Kudos to President GEJ for creating such an atmosphere.

GEJ deserves a massive applause for this but The press will not report it neither will they give GEJ kudos for it.

Do you know why?

GEJ's media handlers have not been good to the press otherwise they would have gone to town with this honest and conspicuous narrative.

I think Attahiru Jega is the man to thank.. Nigerians owe him a lot of appreciation. The only reason why there is this renewed interest by the masses is the introduction of PVC and card readers. People now have this believe that our votes will count this time around, unlike before when the ruling party cooks up figures based on the number of registered voters in their strongholds..

Sorry to differ a bit with you...Prof Attahiru Jega was able to deliver because Jonathan wanted free and fair elections for Nigeria...If Jonathan never supported or wanted such; Jega can do nothing...He supported Jega both morally, financially and security wise...hence what we are witnessing today...

No matter what APC says today; if Jonathan wasn't a democrat and sincere man unlike many of them; the alliance wouldn't have seen the light of the day...

Let's appreciate Jonathan then Jega...God bless us all...

That's the real point. Almost all the thieves that wreaked this nation are now saints in the broom waving group; more akin to a thief changing their residential address, not necessarily their character and disposition.

A PDP/GEJ VICTORY

He will have no option than do better. The masses win. Nigeria wins. The era when an incumbent or a ruling party does not deliver to the best of its ability will be gone. PDP shall than be a better and greater party. The masses will be winner. The PDP wont repeat some of the critical mistakes it has done in the past. Some sections believe it will get worse if GEJ wins, but nothing could be further from the truth; he can ONLY get better. He's got a better understanding of the expectations of the average Nigerian.

. . . . . . . .how exactly will the masses win here? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Jonathan will get a better understanding of the average Nigerian and this will make him sit up? . . . . . . . . . . . . .he will sit up because he is coming to beg us for what again? . . . . . . . . . . . . . .the same Mr I don't give a damn? . . . . . . . . . .In Africa generally, second tenures of political office holders are almost always characterised by 'a leg a bit off the gas' . . . . . . . . . . . .for Jonathan and the hawks around him, it will be harvest time . . . . . . .contracts through cronies will be the order of the day . . . . . . . . . . . . . .how can Jonathan, without vigour when something was at stake now turn to superman when nothing is at stake . . . . . . . . . .If he had any understanding at all about the average Nigerian, Diezani, Morro, Okupe & co wouldn't be holding public office.

OP. . dein77 nice piece.

Yes, a GMB win will make politicians at ALL LEVELS realise that it is not business as usual. Re-election is NOT automatic.

But make no mistakes about it. . if GEJ wins;

EVERY BILLION DOLLAR HE HAS "INVESTED" IN THIS ELECTION WILL BE STOLEN BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!!

Even more so recklessly because he won't be worried about a re-election bid. This is clear.
Don't u think this might damage any chance of the next PDP candidate.... so I guess u may be wrong

Fine...let's go this way...
1)Oyegun isn't fresh into politics...what was his achievement as Edo governor ...let's leave his other sojourns in politics...what image does he represent in Nigeria?

2)For you to advocate a tinubu for Nigeria shows who you are and what you represent and what your dreams for Nigeria are...enough said for now...

3)Do you read Nigeria history... who's buhari? do you know his economic plans then? his human right statistics? his ethnic centred policies?...his style of governance?... what new is he bringing?...what's his development blueprint for this his recent sojourn?

4)Osibanjo has been part of tinubu dynasty...if he sees nothing wrong with tinubu as a master; then his own portfolio is questionable...

Tunde Bakare said he's afraid of buhari environment though he trusts buhari...As for me; I follow history hence buhari antecedents & past doesn't encourage a second chance...

I have one problem with the logic here. Why should a man - Jonathan - do better when he knows you have condoned his worst and lost all power to sanction him thereafter? The credibility of the opposition has woken him up after 4grs but his history of non-performance goes back all the way to Bayelsa 1999. GMB represents a jolt to the system, and I very much look forward to his term as president.
