UPDATE ON OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE

As part of ongoing clearance operations of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in the north-eastern of the country, troops have been conducting clearance operations and patrols in various areas of operation.

It is in this vein that a patrol team had contact with elements of terrorists at MOPOL and BOCOS general area yesterday Sunday 14th May 2016. During the encounter, a Boko Haram terrorist was killed and the team recovered 5 bicycles, wheel barrow containing sack of foodstuffs and a Tecno mobile telephone.

Troops on patrol also rescued 28 persons comprising 2 men, 9 women and 17 children of which there were 8 males and 9 females same at Bama Local Government Area, Borno State.

The rescued persons claimed to have escaped from Bula Musa village. They have been taken to Bama town for screening, profiling and possible hand over to emergency management and humanitarian agencies.

Similarly, troops deployed at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Bama, intercepted 23 persons comprising a man, 5 women and 17 children (10 males and 7 females), with 2 horses and 3 donkeys who also claimed to escape from Boko Haram terrorists in Bula Musa general area yesterday, Sunday 14th August 2016.

In a related development, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) team led by Adam Zanna Karamma visited Bama IDPs camp to register the internally displaced persons who are below ages of 17 for distribution of non-food items. The team stated that, they intend to train them on skills acquisition and construction of temporary shelter.

In Dikwa, the troops also recorded influx of 37 IDPs comprising 2 men, 12 women, 12 boys and 11 girls from Gulumba Gana village which is about 45 kilometres astride Gulumba-Kumshe road axis, Bama Local Government Area. They were screened by the troops and the Civilian JTF who later handed them over to the Dikwa IDPs camp management for further registration and rehabilitation.

Troops deployed at Nigeria-Cameroon border in conjunction with Civilian JTF also arrested two escaping Boko Haram terrorists named Mohammed Mundilga and Ahmed Ali yesterday.
The terrorists who hailed from Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area, on preliminary investigation confessed that they were Boko Haram fighters and added that they sneaked into Gamboru from Abbaganaram village, Marte Local Government Area after tired of staying in the bush. They attempted to disguise and pass on as IDPs but ran out of luck as they were found out. Both of them have been handed over to the Joint Investigation centre for further interrogation.

Troops also carried out clearance operation and fighting patrol at Wadama, Izakah, Gelemari and Kalizaram villages.

Troops located in Monguno received information that suspected Boko Haram terrorists were extorting money and other valuables from residents of Zankari village.

They responded immediately and had encounter with the terrorists in which 2 of them were killed while one of them sustained gun shot wounds. The troops recovered 1 AK-45 rifle and 3 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

Thank you for your kind and usual cooperation.

Yet, the army keeps saying they are dealing with remnants of the group. A little honesty could help.

In Somalia, al Shabaab Allegedly Loses Its Leader

Analysis

Reports have emerged that Abu Ubeida, the leader of Somalia's al Shabaab militant group, may have been captured or killed in an Aug. 11 military operation in southern Somalia. Since then, news of ongoing security activities in Saakow, a town located in an area on the Juba River controlled by al Shabaab, have continued to trickle out of various media outlets. The alleged involvement of both Somali and U.S. special operations forces, as well as rumors of the interdiction of local communications networks, hinted that a significant offensive against key al Shabaab fighters or facilities was in the works. However, the news that Ubeida and several other top leaders were the targets of the raid could indicate a critical tactical victory in the ongoing effort to rein in the militant group.

Ubeida, also known as Ahmed Omar and Ahmed Diriya, became the leader of al Shabaab in September 2014 after his predecessor, Ahmad Abdi Godane, was killed in a U.S. airstrike. Since that time, Somali and U.S. officials have successfully targeted a number of high-ranking al Shabaab figures in a series of raids and airstrikes. (In particular, leaders of the group's internal intelligence organization, Amniyaat, have been caught in the government's crosshairs.) The sharp improvement in the government's results can largely be attributed to the development of intelligence sources, better Somali intelligence capabilities, or the focus of U.S. intelligence assets on tracking and targeting individuals of interest in Somalia. Therefore, while the death or capture of the group's leader is itself a notable event, the raid also reiterates the increasing success of Somali and U.S. attempts to strike at al Shabaab's core leadership.

Meanwhile, the removal of the group's most important leader could herald yet another shift in its focus or tactics. In the past, disruptions in al Shabaab's upper ranks have led to significant adjustments in how the group conducts attacks abroad or uses foreign fighters inside Somali borders. The 2013 attack on Nairobi's Westgate Mall, for instance, came not long after Godane assumed control of the group. Similarly, al Shabaab conducted several attacks against passenger aircraft using laptop bombs after Ubeida took charge, a tactic the group had not focused on prior to his management. The answers to many of the thorny questions facing al Shabaab, such as whether to align more closely with al Qaeda or the Islamic State, could also be heavily influenced by who is at the group's helm.

For now, though, the operation will likely force al Shabaab's remaining leaders into hiding, or at the very least, to take extreme operational security measures to obscure their locations and activities. This could take a heavy, albeit temporary, toll on the group's ability to operate in Somalia in the coming months. And as al Shabaab searches for Ubeida's successor, the group's cohesion — something it has long struggled to maintain — will be put to the test.

Boko-Haram are a defeated group, the Army did not lie. from operating and holding towns that are as large as Mubi, to only operating in Sambisa forest.

That video is why Dasuki and others deserve hanging.
We might have a bit of fixed and rotary wing assets to fight BH, but not rocket science to know that these hardware have down times which requires constant maintenance and fixing issues. I reckon that period in between is when these imbeciles are able to stitch together this their one in a blue moon attack propaganda videos. Enough air assets would mean that these fools can be constantly engaged anytime they crawl out of their foxholes.

Imagine if with good and adequate communications to every unit engaged against BH, there would be masses of these scums dying every week.
I also wish there was an equivalent of a javelin to combat those VBIEDs.
