This latest video brings many questions -
How and when did this attack take place?
How come nobody knew about it?
Has the army been insincere making us feel we are winning the war?
How much ammunition has really been lost since this war began?
Where was the air force during this raid?
Smh......... Is there truely hope?

The quality of equipment captured and the uniforms on the poor departed casualties makes me think this is fairly recent. of course the army is not being entirely honest. I have always wondered how the fearsome Boko haram we used to see disappeared to be replaced by poorly armed rag tag people we see each time the army go on their search and destroy missions.

Seems they have succeeded in evading the worst onslaughts of the army and airforce and have regenerated around the border areas. From the appearance of this video, their mission was against a Foward operating Base (FOB), and their mission was to capture and evacuate equipment. The army would probably reclaim this FOB after the terrorists have long retreated and tell us they repulsed a raid by boko haram killing 30 terrorists with only one soldier injured.

The usual case in war, the first casualty is truth!!

ALLEGED KILLING OF ABDUCTED CHIBOK GIRLS BY NIGERIAN AIR FORCE FIGHTER JETS
The attention of the Nigerian Air Force has been drawn to the latest video released online by the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) group alleging the killing of some of the abducted Chibok school girls by Nigerian Air Force fighter jets.
It is pertinent to state that the video is not only a ruse but another mischievous effort by the dying sect to draw public attention to itself. Whereas the video showed a cross section of the abducted girls and an airborne aircraft, it provided no evidence that the supposed casualties were as a result of any air to ground attack. More so, there is sufficient evidence to believe that the casualties were arranged as the positioning of the bodies clearly defiles any natural setting of a location that has undergone aerial bombardment.
Besides, the impact and accompanying degree of damage to the bodies would have been more, were they to have died from air strike. It is therefore clear that the video is a make-up story to discredit the NAF, and more importantly, a deliberate effort to weep up sentiment among the public in order to dissuade and discontinue the use of airpower which has proved very effective as the major determinant factor in the successes recorded in the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East.
The NAF has put-in place a number of measures to avoid the incidence of collateral damage. To this end, considerable effort is committed to undertaking Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, both day and night, to ensure that only legitimate military targets are engaged.
Besides, NAF ISR platforms carry highly sophisticated equipment on-board which are able to provide pin-point accurate intelligence about target location and description as depicted in the enclosed video on our ISR operations.
And where there are doubts about target status, we do not undertake strike missions. In any case, the NAF, being a professional fighting force, has not and will not engage in unprofessional practices in discharging its statutory duties.
The NAF will like to assure Nigerians, living within the vicinity of its operations, of their safety. While urging them also to disregard the BHT video as a mere propaganda, the NAF wishes to use this opportunity to restate its commitment to restoration of peace in the North East and other troubled areas in the country.
You are please required to disseminate this information in your mass media for the awareness of the general public. Thank you for your usual support and cooperation.

8000 Boko Haram members surrender – Nigeria military

The Nigerian Military on Tuesday in Abuja said that no fewer than 8000 Boko Haram members had voluntarily surrendered to its “Operation Safe Corridor” in the North-East.
The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, disclosed this at a lecture organised by the FCT Correspondents’ Chapel of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The lecture with the theme, “Media-Military Relationship in the Fight against Insurgency,” was part of the activities marking the 2016 Press Week of the chapel.
Abubakar said that the surrendered insurgents were in a camp in Gombe waiting to be “deradicalised’’ by the military.
The general also disclosed that more than 10,000 Boko Haram captives had been rescued by the military.
He said some of them were reunited with their families, while others were taken to Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camps.
Abubakar said that Boko Haram had been successfully decimated by the military and government was working hard on the rehabilitation of the victims and reconstruction of the affected areas.
The general also said that the military would soon launch “Operation Safe Corridor’’ to address the menace of herdsmen across the country.

He assured that the military operation would put an end to the wanton killings by the herdsmen.
Responding to questions on the recent action by the military declaring some journalists wanted, the general urged the media not to allow sentiments to influence their judgment on the issue.
He said the military should be allowed to do its work, while assuring that no member of the media would be victimised unnecessarily.
Abubakar said that good military-media relationship was crucial to winning the war against insurgency.
He said the media drove public support for the military which in turn had boosted the morale of officers and the rank and file.
Earlier, the Secretary of NUJ in FCT, Hajia Rafat Salami, said there was the need for the military and the media to work together in the fight against terrorism and other crimes.
She said the military must see the media as partner in progress and not as enemy.
The Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Raphael Ekpang, thanked the general for finding time out of his tight schedule to share his thoughts on the topic.

This is exactly what i am talking about. Are we in the same universe? On one hand we hear of 8,000 voluntary surrenders or seizure of rusty virtually serviceable arms and dane guns from old and tattered men who could pass for farmers. Meanwhile on the other hand we see videos of fairly recent assaults from well armed and aggressive terrorists capable of overrunning a Forward Operating base and capturing significant arms and ammunition.

Propaganda is good and necessary during war, but i just hope our forces know the reality and prepare based on it.

Uganda: We Will Sink You, Al-Shabaab Vow As UPDF Weapons Ship Docks

Mogadishu — There was an air of suppressed expectation on the ship as the Somalian coastline drew ever closer. The merchant ship carrying Uganda Battle Group One's long-awaited weapons, food and war material, was hours away from docking. It had been almost two weeks of waiting for the infantrymen who had landed in Mogadishu ahead of their equipment on March 6, 2007.

This was good news. But the ship would also now present an irresistible target for al-Shabaab fighters who had also been waiting for it to arrive, according to intelligence. The forces of UGABAG1 were about to face a very stern test.

On March 19, 2007, at around 5pm, the ship finally came into view at Mogadishu seaport. Extra security countermeasures had been initiated as it prepared to dock. An Ethiopian military plane had taken to the skies to provide cover as it sailed in from the nearly 30 nautical miles it was standing off the port.

As things stood, the vessel would dock under intense heavy weapons fire. The same welcome which greeted Brig Peter Elwelu was about to be served up to Brig Godfrey Golooba.

This was expected. Analysis of available intelligence had revealed the enemy's deadly plans. They were planning an all-out bid to sink the ship through bombardment, which they hoped would set off the ship's own deadly cargo comprising of tons of assorted incendiary and high explosive ordinance.

Brig Golooba, who was leading the team on the ship, a role he had played right from the day the RVR train was loaded up and flagged off by Gen Katumba Wamala en route to Mombasa, says they had to be escorted in because of the danger that awaited them on the mainland.

Two days before they arrived, the brigadier says their comrades in Mogadishu called and informed them that the situation was fluid. In military terms, that meant they had an active battlefield on their hands. They had also been informed of the strikes on the two aircraft which sadly resulted in the death of the 11 Belarussian crewmen.

"We were also told that the seaport where we were supposed to dock was under enemy fire. With that threat, we had to slow down the speed from 12 knots to six. That was very slow speed. We needed to be careful," he says.

But even before it docked, the insurgents started shelling the seaport, setting range for follow-on fire at the ship.

"The mortars were landing from every position. Their intention was to sink it," says Brig Elwelu, who as the first contingent commander in Somalia, had a vested interest in ensuring the safe landing of his precious cargo.

He had come prepared and deployed an appropriate welcome party.

It was time to throw everything available at the enemy. The Ugandans opened up with the 30 mm autocannon from the BMP-2 fighting vehicles; laid on the incredible suppressing fire from the mounted heavy machine guns from the 'mambas'; before topping it with ferocious salvos of rockets fired from the BM-13 launchers (Katyusha) for saturation bombardment of the enemy positions.

The shock effect of this robust retaliatory fire power must have been numbing but this was an enemy not used to turning tail and running in the heat of battle. For more than two days, they did their best before their efforts were finally beaten off.

Sinking the ship would not only have been disastrous for the mission, it would also have been a very big loss to Uganda. The equipment on that ship was worth hundreds of billions of shillings. Also aboard were highly trained and skilled members of specialised units from Air Defence, Artillery and Armour.

Offloading the ship took two days. The job was made the more hair-raising because the troops were constantly under fire from the enemy.

"They thought we would abandon the ship and run away. But they were shocked. I think that is when they realised that UPDF was not an ordinary force," says Col Charles Byanyima, the officer who it will be remembered had shown commendable courage and leadership during the aircraft attacks' tragedies.

The terrorists had taken position around the national stadium and climbed on top of the surrounding tall buildings. This gave them a strategic advantage just as was the case with Kilometre Four junction before they were flushed out.

From this position, which gave them clear and sweeping views of the dock and ship, mortar rounds were being lobbed and RPG launchers fired by the al-Shabaab.

Cameroon: 27 Boko Haram killed in ambush, says army

Twenty-seven Boko Haram militants have been killed in Cameroon’s Far North region near the Nigerian border, security sources told Anadolu Agency Wednesday.

"27 fighters were eliminated in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday near Fotokol, near the border with Nigeria, during an ambush by the MNJTF," said Bouba Dobekreo, a commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force.

The MNJTF was created by Lake Chad Basin countries – Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin – aimed at eradicating the Nigerian militant group.

"Ten other elements of the armed group were arrested, and heavy weapons, including machine guns, were also seized," he added.

Dobekreo said that no damage or casualties were reported on the side of the Cameroon defense force because the troops had prepared before reaching their ambush.

Boko Haram has been weakened in recent months due to intensified strikes by coalition troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. French and U.S. troops are supporting the regional force.

An internal dispute and fights over leadership have also weakened the terrorist group.

The insurgent group has been waging a war against Nigeria and neighboring states that has seen at least 20,000 people killed and 2.7 million displaced over the last seven years.

CAS SOLICITS PAKISTAN SUPPORT TO BOOST REGIMENT TRAINING

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar has asked the Pakistan military to help the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to boost the local training of its Special Forces personnel. The CAS made the call while receiving the Director General Joint Staff of the Pakistan Armed Forces (PAF), Lt Gen Najeeb Ullah Khan in his office at NAF Headquarters, Abuja. Air Mshl Abubakar urged his guest, who was in Nigeria to seek new areas of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Nigeria, to consider the possibility of seconding PAF Special Forces trainers to Nigeria to help train more NAF Regiment personnel at home, noting its inherent advantage of cost effectiveness.

Recall that before now, the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT) has been involved in training NAF Regiment personnel locally in force protection and airfield defence with a view to building their capacity to protect key NAF installations and assets. This gesture is part of the United Kingdom assistance to combating insurgency challenge in Nigeria. The recent call on the Pakistan Government by the CAS is to give boost to the local training of NAF Special Forces personnel. The CAS identified pilot training and aircraft maintenance as other areas of possible defence cooperation between Nigeria and Pakistan.

Boko Haram’s former leader has not given up his global jihad, despite being snubbed by ISIS in early August.

Since Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau pledged allegiance to self-proclaimed Islamic State’s leader Abubakar al-Baghdadi in March 2015, Boko Haram has been known as the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP). From that pledge until August 8, 2016, the formerly bombastic Shekau had not been seen publicly. During this period, Shekau and his former rival for Boko Haram leadership, Mamman Nur, appear to have been locked in a factional feud, with the two of them sending audios behind-the-scenes condemning one another. Nevertheless, until August 3 the Islamic State recognized Shekau as the “wali,” or governor, of ISWAP.

Mamman Nur is wanted by Interpol and the FBI for masterminding the UN Headquarters attack in Abuja in August 2011, which killed more than twenty people. Nur accuses Shekau of being dictatorial, religiously uncompromising, killing or maiming (via sharia punishment) innocent Muslim civilians, and burning down mosques over small “violations,” including being disloyal to Shekau. There are also disagreements between Islamic State leadership, Nur, and Shekau over the practice of slavery and the fate of the Chibok captives as well as Shekau’s “not giving enough weapons to soldiers [of the other faction],” which forced them to withdraw and “be replaced by unbelievers” in the “Islamic State.” Nur’s criticisms of Shekau resemble those of other breakaway factions, such as the Yusufiya Islamic Movement in 2011 and al-Qaeda in the Magreb (AQIM)-aligned Ansaru in 2012-2013.

On August 3, the Islamic State announced that Nur-aligned Abu Musab al-Barnawi (the son of Boko Haram’s founder, Muhammed Yusuf) is the new “wali” of ISWAP. Shekau immediately responded with an audio, where he made clear that he is reverting to his former position as “imam” of Jamaatu ahlis Sunna li’Dawati wal Jihad (JAS, the original name of the surviving followers of Muhammed Yusuf). In the audio, Shekau complained that Caliph al-Baghdadi did not respond to his messages about Abu Musab al-Barnawi’s “unbelief.” On August 8, JAS then released a video of Shekau acknowledging Abu Musab al-Barnawi is the new “wali” of ISWAP, but that he will continue the “jihad against Nigeria and the world” as the leader of JAS.

So, the catch now is that the ISWAP faction and Shekau’s JAS faction all still consider Abubakar al-Baghdadi as the caliph. The Islamic State, however, only recognizes ISWAP and the “governorship” of al-Barnawi. Shekau, therefore, is no longer with the Islamic State. But his JAS faction may still be larger and stronger than ISWAP.

I am sensing that the visit is an indication that the thunderbirds are on the way. We should be looking at Pakitani-Isreali-India-Russo military collaborations to properly combat rising militancy activities in the country.
