Angola rebels claim killing 18 government soldiers

Angolan rebels of the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) have claimed killing 18 government troops.

The separatist guerrillas fighting for the independence of the northern province of Cabinda said Thursday they had killed the 18 in the oil-rich enclave, rising the death toll to around 50 since August.

In a statement, FLEC said clashes with the Angolan army took place last week at Makumeni Village in Buco Zau municipality soon after the Portuguese ambassador to Angola visited the province.

A war territory

“We keep on alerting and informing the public and the international community that Cabinda is a war territory in Angola,” the FLEC statement reads.

“The war exists and clashes will continue.”

Angolan Chief-of-Staff General of the Armed Forces Sachipengo Nunda last month denied in Luanda reports of any clashes between the rebels and the government forces.

He said Cabinda was in a state of complete tranquillity.

FLEC has been fighting for the independence of Cabinda for four decades.

A peace deal

In March, the group claimed to have shot dead 30 government soldiers.

With a population of 400,000 people, Cabinda province is geographically separated from the rest of the country.

It accounts for much of Angola’s oil production, which makes the country the current largest exporter in Africa.

Despite a peace deal in 2006, FLEC factions have continued to wage low-level attacks in the province.

Army Kills Seven Militants In Bakassi, Recover Arms

Troops from the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Calabar, at the early hours of Friday, repelled an attack on its soldiers by killing seven armed militants at Efut Esighi in Bakassi local government area of Cross River State.
Capt. Kayode Owolabi, Army Public Relations Officer who disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Calabar, said the militants attacked the Army post in Efut Esighi.
Owolabi linked the militants to be `boys’ of the most wanted militant leader, Benjamin Ene a.k.a `G1’, who has been on the wanted list of security agencies in the state.
“The very determined troops from the 13 Brigade and Operation Delta Safe, repelled an attack from armed militants at Efut Esighi in Bakassi local government area this morning.
“The militants tried to attack the Army post in Efut Esighi. Some of them were wearing Nigerian military camouflage.
“We recovered 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, rocket propelled gun luncher, GPMG belt links and various charms on their bodies. Other militants escaped with very serious gun shots injuries.
“There was no casualty on the side of the military. Our men were in full combatant during the attack.
“We have also destroyed their camps and shrines in the creeks,’’ he said.
The APRO said the 13 Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Bulama Biu, had warned that no militant group or criminal under any guise would be spared.

You are right mate.

Cut off all source of financial incomes and sponsor's and BHT activities will be paralyzed. Our security outfit are doing a nice job, yet more is excepted from them. They just av to step up there game and be more proactive.

[/quote] This is another headache the security agencies would have to deal with if they are to bring BH down to its knees. Imagine the amount of funds that would be available to the terror organisation if those cattles were successfully sold. Every channel of sourcing funds must be blocked to cripple their financial activities. Take away their financial wherewithal and lets see how they would effectively prosecute this war.
I believe the security agencies are up to the task. They need to be creative and very decisive.

Is it possible that the EFCC is involved in this war in the NE especially Maiduguri. To curb the inflow of BH finances, restrictions should be placed on amount of cash that can be moved around and a go.
Electronic payments should be encouraged for those who make large volume trades across the region.
That way, the agencies can effectively monitor individuals and elements involved in financing BH war machinery.

don't forget the sbs is also part of AFSF.

unlike thee sbs that was inttegrated to it, the MSF is still independent.

Not really.

Convert or face exec...ution. You can also see some groups in the middle imposing such on their prisoners and the US soldier grew a beard too.

They'll be prepared to look that way for propaganda purposes. To produce better material like the Iraqi group.

BH is trying the I.....S way.
