The number of Soldiers going down in the Northeast is far more than the number of these Bastards called Bokoharam.

Buhari call your service Chiefs and Defence HQ to order. They are not telling you the Gospel truth.

We are losing too many Soldiers in this warefare. Or the lives of our Gallant soldiers dont have value anymore?

It's really too Sad that the top Military are busy hiding these figures. Just because millions of Nigerians are ready to troop into the Military depot to get recruited should not be an excuse to continually use them as pawns and canon fodders please.

embarassed embarassed embarassed

i keep asking myself, if you look at the bigger picture, are BHT not winning? forget about land controlled

First of all I'm not responding for the sake of it neither is it to further a biased narrative but if we don't discuss this issue on national level it won't be laid to rest, and groups like Igbos will keep on preying on the loopholes.
That being said, Ojukwu foiled the Nzeogwu coup in Kano, Ado Bayero was to be assaainated but he stood he's ground and refused the rascality of Kaduna Nzeogwu, till the death of Ado Bayero he and Ojukwu were best of friends suffice to say Ojukwu ensured the failure of the Coup in Kano. Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna, Nwaobishi were Igbo of Mid Western region (same people who claim they are not Igbos) who were all brought up in the north, so was most of the coup plotters and elements from the north and west(Katsina, Ademoyega etal) at best the coup was senseless and needless.
Ojukwu on other hand told the easterners that escaped the first pogrom to return while issues where being sorted only for the mother of all pogrom to happen again. As a leader will you advise your people to remain in a hostile region?
Nzeogwu was only released from prison after students of UNN protested his incarceration during the war. It is documented that Ojukwu never liked him, Kaduna wasn't given any official command, he gathered troops for isolated attacks till he was ambushed somewhere in Enugu.
As for the plane you said crashed carrying weapons don't know if it's documented but if it's true don't see anything wrong in having a backup plan incase of any eventuality which was predictable by the way.

Untill the Rwandan approach of national reconciliation of both sides happen, webcam only postpone the dooms day but it will eventually come.
Karma is a Greek goddess of redistributive justice. If after all this years the issue that led to the war still hovers around like a vulture, it goes to tell that Nigeria is seriously sick.

This is what you get when teenagers discuss history of a country.

Is the world actually winning the war against insurgency.....pls we should not criticize our military personnel when they experience setbacks....they say the toughest wars are fought at home.....take for example after Syria declared ISIS defeated there was an attack that claimed 34 Syria soilders lives....even in Mali where there are Top military countries like France, Canada, Germany e.t.c even some of our African brothers like Senegal,Chad, Burkina faso,Togo are there trying to bring peace and curb insurgency..... They too experience setbacks German gunships crash, Even Russia sukhoi jets crash and many more.so our troops should not be criticized for setbacks if u take not our air Force is possibly the most active in black Africa...we take on missions like the western Nations...let's give our forces support

Islamic State attacks Nigeria military base in Kareto, killing commander

Can’t seem to find any more info on col Azubuike, killed (RIP). Does anyone…can anyone find a new angle in which to posit why Bokoharam continually overrun our military bases ?

Someone please help an exasperated brother?

Why are lessons apparently not learned?

Would it not be cheaper in the long run to invest now in batten down all our relevant NE bases with the last word in bases protection tech and knowledge out there?

The word base has been abused in this conflict, location were troops muster is been referred to as base.

The United States and NATO is the worst. Any where they intervene turns into conflict zones, then ISIS establishes itself..
Nevertheless the Nigerian Military can still do better we are looking a lot of good soldiers.

The attrition rate is quite unacceptable but its not as terrible as someone here (even predicting conscription) puts it. And how do the fellow know the attrition rate between the terrorists and the Army? Old wives fables?

Thing is, the loss of a soldier is seen as huge, how much more in 5s and 10s. Worst case is the *seeming high* loss at their zone/base.
I still can't wrap my head round why they constantly choose, set out & hold undefendable bases (Note; this word has been loosely in journos),

This is not unit 999, They rarely undertake Frontline direct action. I suspect he is a member of the Thunderbolt brigade.

I'm of the opinion that we need to go back to the basics. Reorientation, restructuring and retooling is the way to go.

Focus should be on adapting modern warfighting techniques and technologies such as equipment uniformity, enhanced squad-level communication to improve target information sharing across the Frontline, theatre-wide multi-sensor fusion, persistent ISR, comprehensive rapid response framework both surface and airborne.

Rapid mobility and maneuverability as well as cross-service troops synergy and combat cohesion are a key ingredient.

Nigeria should have had a grip on this conflict years ago but political missteps have been hampering our efforts.

Also, despite the NAF laudable efforts, they are still a long way to go. Lack of proper platforms is hindering their effectiveness.

Lastly, we are overlooking some crucial agencies which have very important role to play; NSCDC, DSS, NIA, DIA, Immigration and even the Nigerian police force.

Succinct!

I might like to add that the use of our special units have left much to be desired. Its perplexing that gaps (e.g Terrorist freedom of movement) are this obvious and we have capable units. What are they used for? clearance ops alone?

Behind all the pretty pictures we post, we all know our military is not doing well.

I recently read a critical remark made by a British soldier training the Nigerian army. He also shared photos to support his assessment of the Nigerian troops he was training.

Terrible doesn't do justice to the comments he made about our soldiers. It's a near helpless situation.

We are nation living in a self induced delusion or military and political leaders are living in an induced state of colossal delusion were things are magnificent. The leaders are not interested in waking up from their false realities into this real reality.

Someone please clarify. What aspect could the British soldier be referring? Top ranks? Privates? Are men like the late col Azuibike part of this failing? If not why are highly trained professionals like him not braking ranks to let the deplorable state be known publicly even for self preservation reasons or for sake of fighting chance? Are we talking about the entire military structure? Equipment?

Since you ended by stating that Nigeria let the Col down, I am assuming that he was a highly trained, consummate professional surrounded by mediocrity. I'm assuming other high ranking officers are like he was; if so, why are such men presiding over poorly trained troops , according to the Brit? Or was he also poorly trained and your last stament was in regret for him because of this as well as the rest of the fighting men? In other words, they are all as lambs to the slaughter because of poor skills.

INTERNAL SECURITY: NAF GRADUATES 707 PERSONNEL FROM FORCE PROTECTION COURSE, TRAINS 2,872 IN 4 YEARS

The need for continuous capacity development to meet the evolving imperatives for specialist skillsets, such as Force Protection, required in the ongoing counterinsurgency and anti-armed banditry operations cannot be overemphasized. In line with these imperatives, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 15 June 2019, graduated 707 Regiment and Air Police personnel trained in Force Protection in Complex Air-Ground Environment (FP-CAGE). In addition to the FP-CAGE Course 8/2019, the combined graduation ceremony, which took place at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Kaduna, also marked the completion of the Basic Regiment Officers’ Course 14/2019, Advanced Regiment Airmen’s Course 3/201 as well as the Basic Regiment Airmen’s Course 27/2019. The ceremony, which featured simulation demonstrations by the graduating students, brings the total number of personnel trained in FP-CAGE, since the NAF entered into partnership with the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) in 2015, to 2,872.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the graduation marked another milestone in the progress made towards revitalizing the NAF Regiment and repositioning the Specialty to play its roles of Force Protection and security of NAF assets. He noted that the inclusion of some Air Police personnel in the FP-CAGE training was another initiative aimed at improving the security of bases and especially the personnel. The CAS further noted that the current security environment, with its attendant threats and challenges to NAF bases and infrastructure, had brought to the fore the need for the NAF to be able to not just project air power but also adequately ensure the protection of NAF air assets in furtherance of national security imperatives. According to him, “Our pragmatic approach to training has improved our capacity to secure our Bases as well as critical national assets and infrastructure while at the same time improving the capacity of the NAF to respond to national emergencies and crisis situations”.

While congratulating the graduands for the successful completion of the training programme, the CAS reminded them of the need to remain disciplined and vigilant, whilst always guarding their utterances and ensuring they avoid any acts capable of denting the image of the NAF. The CAS also charged them to abide by rules of engagement when deployed and submit themselves to civil authority as they would be operating at a time when the nation is facing numerous security challenges. He further urged the graduands to keep giving their best in the service of the Nation. “Always remember that your duty is to protect all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic background or religious inclination”, he added.

Air Marshal Abubakar also expressed gratitude to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the priority attention given to the requirements of the NAF. The support provided by the Federal Government, he said, had positively impacted on the NAF especially in the areas of training, enhanced operational efficiency as well as improved provision of welfare and other services. He also commended the efforts of the Chief of Training and Operations Headquarters NAF and Director of Regiment as well as the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC GTC) and the Commandant and staff of RTC for their efforts towards ensuring that the aims for which the Centre was established were being achieved. While also commending the BMATT instructors for their dedication, hard work and commitment to the training package in the RTC, the CAS noted that the seamless execution of the force protection exercise demonstrations by the graduands were a testimony to the collaborative efforts and synergy that has been achieved in partnership with NAF instructors.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commandant RTC, Wing Commander Kehinde Akinyosade, stated that the commendable achievements recorded by the RTC were made possible due to the unwavering support of the CAS and the commitment of the AOCs of GTC and the Air Training Command (ATC). He therefore expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the CAS for his keen interest in capacity development of NAF personnel, which, he said, had ensured an enabling environment for the timely, qualitative turn out of well-trained Regiment personnel.

As part of the ceremony, the graduating students conducted an exercise simulating the countering of an insurgent threat to the Base by an FPCAGE Team supported by an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform. Another highlight of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of awards to students who distinguished themselves during the various courses. Dignitaries that graced the occasion included the Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College, AOCs ATC and GTC, Commander Nigerian Army Infantry Corp, Commanders of co-located NAF Units in Kaduna as well as other serving and retired senior officers.

Who is letting down who? Is military (Army branch) letting down Nigeria? Thought Nigeria was letting down military by not providing enough money to buy equipment, didn't think Nigeria was letting down military by not providing enough money for training. If Nigeria is providing mony but military is misappropriating funds isn't it then military letting down the fighting men as well as Nigeria. And the ordinary soldiers let down by everyone undecided

If the word of the Brit is IT, then the man responsible for how the army trains and applies that training bares a large part of responsibility for the relevant failure. All senior commanders in the Army bare some responsibility too.
