When you use the word "control" in reference to the police,I reluctantly assume that you may not be seeing the big picture. The question is, is the police meant to be controlled?. One of the many problems facing the current centralized police system is political interference; senators have police slots, governors have slots, ministers have slots, even scullions in aso rock have designated slots. Why,infact, any big man needs just to point a finger to order arrests and perpetual detention.

The answer is that we need not just state and LG police, but full autonomy for the police force. Police chiefs should be elected and impeached by designated bodies, not based on political appointment.

Ideally, a police chief should be a gallant ombudsman, not a boy-boy to any governor or president.

As for how the states will fund their police, well, I agree with you. States cannot currently afford the cost of running police forces. If the FG is serious about decentralizing the police,I think it should be part of a wider structural reform. The FG must make up for the responsibility it is giving the states by enacting a system of fiscal federalism, which is popularly called "restructuring" in some circles. States should be allowed to generate money and use a bulk of the money generated for their individual needs.

State or regional police isn't new in Nigeria, ask yourself, why did it fail in the past? if you can answer that question correctly then look at all those factors today, it will be silly to repeat a mistake twice, state/regional police was a disaster in Nigeria, it led you to a civil war you still wanna go back to that sh!t again? because some people pretend they can't learn from experience?

Goodluck with that!!

NAF SUSTAINS AIR STRIKES AGAINST TERRORISTS TARGETS, DEGRADES ANOTHER HIDEOUT IN SAMBISA FOREST

In continuation of its sustained air strikes against terrorists’ targets in Borno State, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has severely degraded another Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) hideout in the Sambisa Forest. The operation was executed yesterday, 16 June 2019, after persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions revealed heavy presence of BHTs at a new camp with several structures hidden under the thick foliage of the Forest. Accordingly, the ATF dispatched an Alpha Jet to attack the location. Its bombs hit the target area, with devastating effects on several of the camouflaged structures, neutralizing their BHT occupants.

The NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, will sustain the effort to completely degrade the terrorists in the Northeast.

Your ability to do basic research has only managed to avail me with information I already have, since the days of beegeagle. Everybody knows how international politics made Nigeria's fleet of jaguars useless as combat aircrafts. But what excuse do we have for neglecting them and leaving them to rot?,what is wrong in taking them to India for maintenance, and then using them as trainers?.

Do not preach patriotism to me, I am as patriotic as you can get. But that doesn't mean I won't present facts the way I see them.

The truth is, we allowed our fleet of jaguars to rot, international politics is no excuse. The role of those jets went beyond their deep strike capacity.

Talking about F7s,how many operational F7s do we have?. Issues must be addressed without emotions and sentiments so that we can move forward.

India is a commonwealth nation, Nigeria under commonwealth sanctions can not go to India, the UK blocked everything, do you think Iran can just go to Nigeria and do business as it is today? That does not mean iranian sanction is same with ours but I used it to give you a clue how the real world works, once the Allied gods come for you, there is nowhere to hide!!
India didn't get the license to manufacture Jaguar parts, so taking it to India that will still order the parts from UK is useless.

PRESS RELEASE

ANOTHER NOTORIOUS CULTIST AND ILLEGAL OIL BUNKERING KINGPIN NEUTRALIZE IN RIVERS STATE

In the early hours of today Sunday the 16th of June 2019, troops of 29 Battalion of 6 Division Nigerian Army (NA) in conjunction with personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) guarding Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Trans National Pipelines at Gio community in Tai Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State were attacked by suspected militants who were hitherto prevented from vandalizing 24" and 28" TNP thereby putting them out of the illicit business.

Unfortunately, during the ensuing fire fight one soldier and 2 personnels of the NSCDC lost their lives and their weapons (one AK 47 and 2 G3 rifles) were carted away by the assailants.

An immediate reinforcement by troops at the location led to the cordon and search of the general area with the view to finding any criminal believed to be harbouring within the communities.

Reliable intelligence led to the tracking of the prime suspect, a notorious cultist and illegal oil bunkering kingpin Korobe Menele Loveday who has been on the wanted list of the security agencies for terrorizing communities in the state.

Consequently, at about 9:00am, troops cashing on available information sighted a white Toyota Hilux vehicle without number plate, hastily driven with 4 occupants. Efforts to stop the vehicle by troops at a check point was ignored. The gallant troops chased the speeding vehicle and caught up with the suspects around Kira Junction, along Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic.

Sensing danger, the occupants opened fire at the troops in a bid to escape. Troops reacted, and incapacitated the militants' vehicle. As a result, the bandits abandoned their vehicle and fled to the bush. However, one of the criminals was gunned down and was identified as the wanted notorious cultists and illegal oil bunkering kingpin Korobe Menele - popularly known as MENE. Others with him, believed to escape with gun shot wounds - leaving trails of blood.

The following tems were recovered from the scene and in the vehicle:, 1 x K2 Rifle, 2 x Magazines loaded with 52 Rounds of 5.56mm, some personal effects, one pair of vehicle plate number KRK 95DP RIVERS and some documents.

The body and other recovered exhibits have been handed over to the NSCDC Rivers State Command for further action, while troops continue to track the remaining fleeing bandits to face justice.

The General Officer Commanding 6 Division Maj Gen Jamil Sarham use this opportunity to rereaffirm the commitment of the Division in protecting lives and properties of law abiding citizens in Rivers state. He also solicits the cooperation of all stakeholders in tackling insecurity within the Niger Delta region through sharing of credible information to the security agencies.

INTERNAL SECURITY: NAF GRADUATES 707 PERSONNEL FROM FORCE PROTECTION COURSE, TRAINS 2,872 IN 4 YEARS

The need for continuous capacity development to meet the evolving imperatives for specialist skillsets, such as Force Protection, required in the ongoing counterinsurgency and anti-armed banditry operations cannot be overemphasized. In line with these imperatives, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 15 June 2019, graduated 707 Regiment and Air Police personnel trained in Force Protection in Complex Air-Ground Environment (FP-CAGE). In addition to the FP-CAGE Course 8/2019, the combined graduation ceremony, which took place at the Regiment Training Centre (RTC) Kaduna, also marked the completion of the Basic Regiment Officers’ Course 14/2019, Advanced Regiment Airmen’s Course 3/201 as well as the Basic Regiment Airmen’s Course 27/2019. The ceremony, which featured simulation demonstrations by the graduating students, brings the total number of personnel trained in FP-CAGE, since the NAF entered into partnership with the British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) in 2015, to 2,872.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, stated that the graduation marked another milestone in the progress made towards revitalizing the NAF Regiment and repositioning the Specialty to play its roles of Force Protection and security of NAF assets. He noted that the inclusion of some Air Police personnel in the FP-CAGE training was another initiative aimed at improving the security of bases and especially the personnel. The CAS further noted that the current security environment, with its attendant threats and challenges to NAF bases and infrastructure, had brought to the fore the need for the NAF to be able to not just project air power but also adequately ensure the protection of NAF air assets in furtherance of national security imperatives. According to him, “Our pragmatic approach to training has improved our capacity to secure our Bases as well as critical national assets and infrastructure while at the same time improving the capacity of the NAF to respond to national emergencies and crisis situations”.

While congratulating the graduands for the successful completion of the training programme, the CAS reminded them of the need to remain disciplined and vigilant, whilst always guarding their utterances and ensuring they avoid any acts capable of denting the image of the NAF. The CAS also charged them to abide by rules of engagement when deployed and submit themselves to civil authority as they would be operating at a time when the nation is facing numerous security challenges. He further urged the graduands to keep giving their best in the service of the Nation. “Always remember that your duty is to protect all Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic background or religious inclination”, he added.

Air Marshal Abubakar also expressed gratitude to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the priority attention given to the requirements of the NAF. The support provided by the Federal Government, he said, had positively impacted on the NAF especially in the areas of training, enhanced operational efficiency as well as improved provision of welfare and other services. He also commended the efforts of the Chief of Training and Operations Headquarters NAF and Director of Regiment as well as the Air Officer Commanding Ground Training Command (AOC GTC) and the Commandant and staff of RTC for their efforts towards ensuring that the aims for which the Centre was established were being achieved. While also commending the BMATT instructors for their dedication, hard work and commitment to the training package in the RTC, the CAS noted that the seamless execution of the force protection exercise demonstrations by the graduands were a testimony to the collaborative efforts and synergy that has been achieved in partnership with NAF instructors.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commandant RTC, Wing Commander Kehinde Akinyosade, stated that the commendable achievements recorded by the RTC were made possible due to the unwavering support of the CAS and the commitment of the AOCs of GTC and the Air Training Command (ATC). He therefore expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the CAS for his keen interest in capacity development of NAF personnel, which, he said, had ensured an enabling environment for the timely, qualitative turn out of well-trained Regiment personnel.

As part of the ceremony, the graduating students conducted an exercise simulating the countering of an insurgent threat to the Base by an FPCAGE Team supported by an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform. Another highlight of the graduation ceremony was the presentation of awards to students who distinguished themselves during the various courses. Dignitaries that graced the occasion included the Commandant Armed Forces Command and Staff College, AOCs ATC and GTC, Commander Nigerian Army Infantry Corp, Commanders of co-located NAF Units in Kaduna as well as other serving and retired senior officers.

Major Gideon okar solution will solve this country problem by 50%, expel the whole North east and the North west including some states in the middle belt. Or total dissolution of this country.

The North west and North east will not let people consume beers in their region but will get money from VAT from states that allows people consume beers.

The North takes more than it gives to this country.

After voting the incompetence buhari, you will see them voting an incompetence atiku in 2023 grin

As for me I believe total dissolution will end the madness happening in this country. No aboki will bring his malnourished cows on my farmland and ruin it all in the name of being a Nigerian.

Does your state pay more VAT than Kano state or you think VAT applies to beer alone?

SPEECH BY IGP MOHAMMED A. ADAMU, NPM, mni, ON 17TH JUNE, 2019 DURING THE CONFERENCE WITH SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS HELD AT THE IGP CONFERENCE HALL, FORCE HEADQUARTERS, ABUJA.

Let me sincerely welcome you all to this Conference which is convened in furtherance to my policy of constantly engaging strategic Police Commanders to undertake periodic review of internal security situation in the country. This is with a view to proffering pragmatic and far-reaching solutions to crimes in the country. In this regard, the Conference will review the pattern and trend of crimes over the past one month, highlight our achievements, identify our challenges, geo-locate the current security threats and evaluate strategies with a view to strengthening our crime management template.

2. Within this context, it is noted that while there are still isolated cases of internal security breaches which often attract publicity and national attention, the crime rate in recent times has been on the decline. This is in contrast to the crime records over the preceding months.

3. The foregoing is consequent upon the enhancement of the institutional capacity of the Nigeria Police to respond to internal security threats and undertake intelligence-led operations. The successes achieved are linked to ‘Operation Puff Adder’ which has been a very potent anti-crime vehicle of the Nigeria Police.

4. Sequel to the launch of Operation Puff Adder in all the States of the Federation and other security strategies recently emplaced to address internal security threats, a total number of Four Hundred and Twenty Four (424) kidnappers were arrested between 10th May, 2019, and 14th, June, 2019. The highest number of One Hundred and one (101) kidnap suspects were arrested in Kaduna State, followed by Katsina State with Seventy Nine (79) arrests. Fifty Four (54) suspects were apprehended in Nasarawa State and Thirty Two (32) in Taraba State.

5. In the same vein, a total of Forty Four (44) murder suspects were arrested during the period under review, with the highest number of Seven (7) in FCT and Six (6) in Kano State. In addition, Two Hundred and Seventy Six (276) armed robbery suspects were arrested within the same period with the highest number of Thirty Eight (38) in Edo State, followed by Twenty Five (25) in Nasarawa State and Twenty Three (23) in FCT. Similarly, a total of ten thousand, eight hundred and sixty (10,860) ammunition of various descriptions and calibre were recovered while a total of Three hundred and One (301) firearms including a Rocket Launcher, AK47 assault rifles, pistols and locally made gun, were similarly recovered from criminal elements across the country, with the highest number of eighty (80) in Katsina State, followed by Edo State with Twenty six (26) and Kaduna State with twenty-five (25). Furthermore, One Hundred and Seventy Six (176) suspected cultists were arrested across the country while Seventy Seven (77) stolen vehicles were recovered by Operation Puff Adder operatives nationwide between 10th May, 2019 and 14th June, 2019, with the highest number of Twenty nine (29) in FCT.

6. It is to be emphasized that the achievements were recorded with the cooperation of members of the public in a manner that clear demonstrates the increasing determination of the citizens to support the Police in restoring internal security. It was also the result of the sacrifice, courage, zeal and exceptional dedication of Police Commanders and other ranks.

7. I therefore wish to use the opportunity of this forum to immensely thank all well-meaning Nigerians for their support and to commend you and other personnel of the Nigeria Police across all ranks for aligning to my policing vision and supporting the implementation of the strategies emplaced towards restoring internal security. We might have taken giant steps against crime and criminality but the battle is still far from being over. I therefore charge you to sustain the sense of commitment to duty as it represents a sacred call to national duty.

8. I remain conscious of the challenges across all Commands/Formations and I can assure you that concerted efforts are being made with the support of Mr. President to tackle and bring far-reaching solutions to these challenges.

9. I want to reassure the citizens that the Nigeria Police has emplaced frameworks that will facilitate the strengthening of operation Puff Adder and ensure the sustenance of its gains. This includes plans directed at re-organising and re-launching the Safer Highway and Safer City Models of Policing which will entail the acquisition of new fleet of vehicles that will be deployed to dominate the public space as well as the emplacement of CCTV and other cutting-edge technologies for city surveillance.

10. The current attempts at adopting and implementing the concept of Community Policing also represents part of enduring strategies aimed at changing the policing narratives of the country. This will ensure the effective integration of the citizens to our internal security framework, guarantee the concept of policing by public consent and build partnership required to address peculiar communal threats.

11. In this regard, I want to charge all you all as strategic Police Commanders to redouble your efforts in ensuring the safety and protection of lives and property in your areas of jurisdiction while you provide the requisite leadership to officers and men under your supervision to desist from acts that widen the gap between the Police and the community as it is only when we present a common front that we can defeat the criminals that constitute our common enemies.

12. Finally, I wish to assure Nigerians of our firm commitment to sustain the war against crimes by taking the battle to the door steps of criminal elements in furtherance to our mission to guarantee the safety and security of our communities. We only request one thing which is the continued goodwill, understanding, and support of all citizens across socio-economic background.

13. I Thank you all and I look forward to a professionally rewarding conference.
