Have never seen an unreasonable strategy being employed as we are currently experiencing in the north east...The was a report that shown BHT elements were amassing at a particular location close to the area attacked, yet what did d army authorities do Nothing...Now we typing R.I.P...A Army Colonel, Captain and NCOs dead!!...And we would kill and stupid aboki and show his dane gun tomorrow....nonsense...

I think the cause of some attack on our military base is the citizens (villagers) in borno since BHT are providing some amenities for them they are their sympathizers... they provide Info for BHT....the military has said this Before and it's true on the other hand the army should be ready anytime any day for anything coming their way the army said they had sophisticated UAV it should help them... some unit should take a cue from the troops in Yobe...they are well able to repel any attack and inflict damage on BHT/ISWAP

Let's tell ourselves the truth the military as to step up there game and the federal government is not doing well at all when it comes to funding, for a country fighting terrorism.
We lost six good soldiers as a result of ambush by BHT, we can't rely on villagers to always give us intell on BHT movement & activities. What do we do to always counter threats in form of ambush, I.E.D threats and how to stop BHT from overrunning our military Base. These have been happening for years and how top rank officers haven't preferred solution to all these threats our troops are facing.
Troops on patrol riding on hilux are vulnerable to ambush and I.E.D threats. It takes grace to survive an ambush under fire, where you are out numbered 5 to 1 and you don't have a drone overhead.
Mr president is doing well in funding the army well, the army is not just lucky. We need the ARA II MRAP in large numbers 300-500, especially for patrol missions.
For Base defense our front line troops are not doing well in these aspect and to do just also our bases are not well fortified/protected as compared with many western/European bases in Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq etc. I think the army authorities should emulate there airforce counterpart on how to defend bases and train soldiers in large numbers before they are been sent to the northeast, the earlier the better to stop these humiliation of BHT overrunning our F.O.B and carting away of ammunition caches.
We should contact the United States army on these, I like the way they protect there bases in the east.
If all law makers and elected personnel are ridding in bullet proofed/up armored cars then each soldier in the northeast deserves something much more better.
We should face out every Toyota hilux vehicle and the MRAP should be the minimum vehicle for operation of any sort, we are rich and we can afford.

Six soldiers, including two officers, who fought to repel a Boko Haram attack on Wednesday were killed by the insurgents.

One of the victims was a colonel and another a captain.

Several Boko Haram fighters were also killed by the Nigerian soldiers.

The attack occurred at about 6:00 p.m. along Maiduguri-Damaturu Highway during a patrol by the colonel and other soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade.

The Nigerian Army has not announced the development. Its spokesperson, Sagir Musa, did not immediately return calls seeking comments from PREMIUM TIMES.

PREMIUM TIMES is withholding the identity of the slain officers as we are not sure their families have been briefed by the army.
The military has avoided announcing own casualties in recent months, including the two lieutenant colonels who were killed within the past two months.

A military source told PREMIUM TIMES the six soldiers were killed near their base in Jakana.

A soldier who went missing has since returned to base, sources said. A reinforcement was sent from the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheik to the outpost in Jakana.

The remains of the colonel and five others have been sent to the Nigerian Army medical facility in Maiduguri.

The Boko Haram continues its deadly campaign despite the Nigerian government’s efforts and claims that the war was nearing its last days.

Hundreds of soldiers have been killed since Boko Haram began focusing on military bases in July 2018, casualties that included at least six senior officers and commanders.

The military has succeeded in limiting the insurgents to three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe. They hitherto operated across Northern Nigeria including in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. However, the Boko Haram group is still able to attack military and civilians in the three states where it currently operates.

The Boko Haram insurgency has claimed tens of thousands of lives since 2009.

I keep hearing about how rich Nigeria is, yet our budget is nothing to write home about. I can only shake my head when I compare Nigeria budget to that of Angola, SA, Egypt and Algeria.
Our government is not serious at all in Nigeria. Nigerians deserve the kind of useless leaders like buhari sha. I don't understand how you will open your eyes and thumbprint for such a person.

Mohammed Aminu, a corporal, Commander Haruna, a lance corporal, Oluji Joshua, a lance corporal;
and Hayatudeen Abubakar, a lance corporal

have all been declared wanted by the Nigerian Army after they absconded with N600Million they were detailed to escort to Abuja.

It's high time NA buy helicopters for frontline operations even if it is Robinson helicopters, we can easily refit them.
It's time we call for a comprehensive national summit on security.
For me, I think it will be nice if each FOB has a direct hotline to call in for air support when there is an attack(this is where NA's air component shud come in), NAF's intervention shud be seen as a bonus because it seems like there is no seamless coordination btw NA & NAF.
It is madness to be using Innoson vehicles and other light skin vehicles for patrols in hot zones, their use should be limited to areas with lesser security threats. Proforce should be given all the support they need in manufacturing bomb/bullet resistant vehicles.

Most importantly, the recruitment/deploments should be very fair and credible. Politicians should remove their filthy fingers in the entire process, I know some officers(Regulars) that have spent almost 5years in the army and have never visited NE, if they're ain't posted to Abuja they will be in Lagos with shining boots and starched khaki, attending wedding parties every Saturday, while some of their colleagues or even seniors especially (SSC/DSSC offrs) haven't tasted posting outside the NE since commissioning.

ZAMFARA STATE GOVERNOR COMMENDS NAF ON ROLE PLAYED IN FORCING BANDITS TO THE NEGOTIATING TABLE

The Executive Governor of Zamfara State, His Excellency, Doctor Bello Matawale, has commended the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for the role it played in helping to force the armed bandits, who were terrorizing innocent people in Zamfara State to the negotiating table. He noted that the pressure mounted on the criminals by the NAF, through air and ground assaults, in conjunction with other security agencies, for the first time in more than 4 years, was able to halt attacks on villages thereby bringing relative calm to the State. The Governor gave this commendation while on a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, at Headquarters NAF (HQ NAF) today, 18 July 2019.

The Governor, who noted that it had been over 3 weeks since an attack was recorded in the State, explained that the decision to negotiate with the bandits was born out of the need to immediately end all forms of insecurity in the state so that the people of Zamfara can go about their normal activities without fear. According to him, “markets, which were hitherto closed for several years, have since been reopened and several captives have regained their freedom”. While thanking the leadership of the NAF and its personnel for their immense contributions to the gradual restoration of normalcy to the State, the Governor pleaded for additional support in the areas of community development and provision of healthcare services to help alleviate the shortfall in amenities caused by many years of banditry attacks.

In his response, the CAS congratulated the Governor for his efforts in bringing peace to the state while promising that the NAF would continue to support the Zamfara State peace initiative. Accordingly, he said the NAF would sustain its Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions across Zamfara and surrounding States to deter attacks. He added that the establishment of the 207 Quick Response Wing (207 QRG) Gusau, with its helipads and fuel facilities, had not only added impetus to air operations but also improved the conduct of ground operations with the 250 NAF Special Forces (SF) operating in Gusau and Bungudu Local Government Areas (LGAs). He noted that the ultimate aim was to have a minimum of 700 Regiment/SF personnel in Zamfara to compliment the efforts of other security agencies.

Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar said the establishment of a NAF Detachment in Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State had also further enhanced the ability of the NAF to effectively conduct air operations in the area. He remarked that the 2 newly acquired Augusta 109 Power Helicopters, which were inducted by the Vice President Yemi Oshinbajo during the recently concluded NAF Day Celebration, would soon be deployed to the Northwest. He noted further that the Service had been working with the previous State Administration towards the construction of a new runway in Gusau to enable fixed wing aircraft operate from the State. The CAS recalled that the NAF had conducted a 5-day medical outreach in Shinkafi in August 2018 and had concluded plans to conduct medical outreaches in some other LGAs in the State. He however solicited for the continued cooperation of the people and Government of State in the provision of intelligence to enable the effective and efficient conduct operations.

Nigeria: Islamic State fighters attack Jakana military base after deadly ambush

Islamic State militants attacked a military base in Jakana town in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state after ambushing a military vehicle nearby and killing the six soldiers aboard, two military sources told AFP Thursday.

Heavily-armed Islamic State West Africa Province fighters opened fire on a patrol vehicle on Wednesday, July 17 near Jakana, which is around 40 km (25 miles) west of Borno state capital Maiduguri, killing all the soldiers on board.

“We lost all six soldiers in the ambush, including a colonel,” said the first of two military sources, who both spoke on condition of anonymity.

The soldiers were on their way to Maiduguri from Damaturu, the capital of neighboring Yobe state, when the militants attacked around 5:20 p.m. local time (1620 GMT), said the source.

“The gun truck the soldiers were driving in was destroyed,” the second source said.

Following the ambush the insurgents attacked a military base just outside Jakana in seven technicals – pickup trucks fitted with machine guns, also known as gun trucks in Nigeria – engaging troops in an hour-long battle, the sources said. The attack was repelled by soldiers at the base, with ISWAP fighters abandoning weapons and one vehicle as they fled.

Nigeria’s Sun News outlet, which first broke news of the raid on Jakana on Wednesday, said the attack began at around 6:30 p.m. and that scores of residents had fled into the bush.

The army has not officially confirmed the attacks, and ISIS has not yet said that ISWAP fighters were responsible.

CAS TOURS NAFIL TAILORING WORKSHOP IN KADUNA, COMMISSIONS NEW ACCOMMODATION IMMORTALIZING FALLEN HEROES

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, yesterday, 18 July 2019, undertook a tour of the Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) Tailoring Workshop in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base Kaduna for an on-the-spot assessment of facilities to ensure full compliance with the Federal Government’s directive for the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies to patronise the Nigerian Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) Industry Sector. While in Kaduna, the CAS also immortalized 2 of NAF’s fallen heroes, Air Commodore Gabriel Ochai, who died during a test flight in Kaduna, and Flight Lieutenant Kalto Kilofas, who was among the crew of the Mi-35M Helicopter that crashed in Damasak, Borno State, by naming 2 newly constructed residential accommodations after them. Four new 3-bedroom bungalows for married officers were named after Air Commodore Ochai, while a block of single-room transit accommodation for single officers was named after Flight Lieutenant Kilyofas.

Conducting the CAS on the tour of facilities at the Tailoring Workshop, the Managing Director (MD) NAFIL, Air Commodore Uchechi Nwangwu, stated that the Workshop, which was established in June 2017, has a staff strength of 68, comprising 38 NAF personnel and 30 civilians, who are dependents of personnel from the Base that were trained in the facility. He said the Workshop had so far produced over 62,000 pairs of uniforms for the NAF and was in the process of completing the production of another 17,900. The MD further noted that, as part of its efforts to meet the requirements for full compliance with the FG’s directive, the Workshop, which was certified by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity as a Trade Test Centre in September 2018, had acquired 34 additional high-end industrial machines bringing its inventory of machines and equipment
to 140. He said this had raised the Workshop’s optimal production capacity from 5,000 to 6,500 uniforms per month. He also mentioned that 4 of the tailors were recently trained in advanced tailoring techniques in China after their initial training by NAF Technical Partners in Aba, Abia State.

At the end of the tour, the CAS expressed satisfaction with NAFIL’s efforts as well as the immense progress made towards ensuring total self-reliance in terms of uniforms production. He said the Workshop could now go beyond sewing regular uniforms to the production of flying and technicians suits as well as other uniform items and accoutrements. Air Marshal Abubakar stated that NAF tailoring services would be further expanded by opening 2 other centres in Makurdi and Lagos to meet the requirements of the Service.

Speaking while commissioning the new residential accommodations, the CAS disclosed that, in his quest to have a professional force, he had taken steps to emplace the right structure, right human capacity, right equipment holding and, more importantly, the right welfare incentives to ensure personnel are properly motivated for effective service delivery. He said, in his view, the human being is the most critical factor in any working system. Accordingly, the current NAF leadership had focused its attention on the provision of befitting accommodation as well as provision of good healthcare and educational facilities for personnel and their families. He said the NAF had therefore established new Reference Hospitals in Bauchi and Daura while the medical centre in Port Harcourt had also been upgraded to a Reference Hospital. Air Marshal Abubakar also noted that the Service had upgraded medical equipment at its various medical centres around the country. In terms of education facilities, he said the NAF has renovated/remodeled and constructed new blocks of classrooms and hostel accommodations in existing NAF schools while establishing 2 new secondary schools. These are the Air Force Girls Comprehensive School Abuja and the Air Force Secondary School (AFSS) Shasha, Lagos. He equally expressed delight that AFSS Kaduna, which was upgraded to a boarding school and renamed Air Force Comprehensive School Kaduna, was also doing well. He remarked that, through massive construction of residential accommodation, the Service had been able to raise accommodation sufficiency from 35 to about 72 per cent, despite almost doubling the strength of its personnel in the last 4 years. He said the NAF would sustain its efforts to ensure that every single personnel is comfortably accommodated. The CAS concluded by commending the efforts of the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command (AOC ATC) and the Commander 435 Base Services Group (435 BSG) for their contributions towards ensuring security in Kaduna State.

The Commander 453 BSG, Air Commodore Idi Sani, while delivering his welcome address, stated that the commissioning was a remarkable milestone by the current NAF administration towards improving the welfare of personnel. He remarked that the number of residential accommodation provided in NAF Base Kaduna in the last 4 years was unprecedented. He therefore pledged the commitment of personnel of the Base to reciprocate the exceptional gesture through unwavering dedication to duty, whilst upholding a high maintenance culture. The Chief of Administration Headquarters NAF, Commandant of Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, AOC ATC, Commandants and Commanders of co-located NAF Units as well as members of Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association and Airmen Wives Association graced the occasion.

Yes these are the routes without Military escorts just like Maiduguri- Damaturu Road. but recently the guys have started attacking civillian vehicles which is Kinda new to ISWAP style unlike the JAS guys in the Southern Borno...
