the cat is going down, the protruding angle of the steps indicate a downward view by the onlooker that is if the looker is standing at the base of the staircase. u wont be able to see this projected angle of the steps if u re standing at the top of the staircase looking downwards.

compare the 2 staircases, u will see the same slightly projected angles of the steps before the risers
in the 3rd picture the projected angles are marked as 22

I feel its climbing up considering the structure behind the cat looks like a down floor passage that opened to the staircase,again the cat's raised leg supports my choice.A cat can't climb downwards raising it's front leg that way.

it may not be illusion,remenber simple law of refractive index of a morror. That pix was taken from mirror not from physical view then you can understand its posotion, I geuss its climbing UP.

u r right, if u look @ the steps carefully u will observe hw its built n u will understand its coming down. The good thing is, everybody has his or her perception so it depends on personal view. Some can tell u the cat is flying.

You are correct!

The cat is going don based on the design of the stairwell. The edges on each stairwell are usually designed smooth on top but from the angle this picture was taken, the edges have the little cut out shapes which indicates it is the side of the stairwell. So the picture was taken from the front part of the stairwell which indicates the cat was coming down towards the camera
