Eagles’ Job: Erico Tips Oliseh For Success

Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Joe Erico has declared that the success or failure of Sunday Oliseh will depend on the game plan of Nigeria Football Federation. The Glass House according to him lacks the ability to identify potentials in a coach and often toe lines that run in opposite direction with that of the coach.
On insinuations in some quarters that Oliseh may go on a collision course with the NFF because of his preserved temperamental nature, Erico said it would be wrong to judge the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder by past conduct as a player noting that a lot of water has since past through the bridge .
“I think it will be better to wait and see how it goes. Whether he succeeds or not depends on the NFF. The administrators don’t recognize value and cannot identify a good material when they see one which explains why they often sail in different directions with the coaches. So if they want him to succeed he will,” the former Nigerian international stated.
The choice of Oliseh who is set to be unveiled as Super Eagles sweat merchant this week has expectedly triggered off a lot of debate among soccer fans and analysts alike.
While some believe the former international who made over 54 appearances for the national team will be an instant hit judging from his experience on the pitch and coaching certificate acquired over the years, others doubt his ability to translate his analytical ability on television to practical coaching on the pitch.

Why Oliseh Must Not Fail

Sunday Oliseh
by Samm Audu
On Wednesday, Nigeria will give Sunday Oliseh a chance to put in practice all his talk as the new coach of the Super Eagles.
Reactions have been varied over Oliseh’s appointment but in general, they have been favourable.
The former Eagles skipper is widely regarded as a very knowledgeable and tactically sound coach going by his work as a TV pundit and with the FIFA Technical Study Group.
He is also known as someone who does not compromise his high standards as we all saw when he took on the country’s sports officialdom at the 2002 AFCON in Mali.
But again there are those who have questioned his very limited experience as a coach and also if he could go past the many pitfalls that go with holding down one of the toughest jobs in African football.
Quacks today parade themselves as coaches in Nigeria. They are not willing to develop and empower themselves, they are unprofessional and neck-deep in the rut that is Nigerian football now.
That explains why national team coaches are forced to train their call-ups from the domestic league on the basics – from how to kick the ball, passing and positional play.
There are also the numerous sentiments that have affected their judgment and decisions – from what they will be paid for playing a particular player to the pressures the high and mighty exert on them to pick players from them.
A person like Segun ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami is therefore living in the past to have said he would have led a protest march were a Nigerian not hired to replace Keshi.
The former Eagles skipper must have been overcome by patriotic fervour to have contemplated such.
This is because Odegbami ought to know more than most that besides the excess baggage the Nigerian coach comes with, he lacks the tactical acumen at a time when matches are now won on the bench than the pitch.
These coaches do not study their opponents and so they do not have clear and well-thought-out tactics to beat the other team.
Nigeria stars are not playing in the top leagues or some of the top clubs in Europe and some do not even get to play regularly for their foreign clubs.
But it still remains a very lame excuse for how badly the Eagles have played for many, many years now.
A good friend, the Slovenian coach Ivo Sajh, who led Kano Pillars to reach the last four of the 2009 CAF Champions League, told me has applied for the Eagles top post because “Nigeria have not had a coach for the past 10 years!”
The NFF have now displayed the will that they wish to change things for the better.
They must now support Oliseh all the way because he probably remains one of a handful of Nigerians who could get the Eagles flying again.
He in turn has to instill discipline and commitment in his team as well as groom younger players, who are hungry to make a name for themselves.
Were the Oliseh gamble to fail, we would all have to put aside national pride and seek help overseas.
That is why Oliseh cannot afford to bungle the chance a whole nation has now presented him.

Atletico Madrid for Sokari as Esperance Deal Shaky

Kingsley Sokari

by Samm Audu
Former European champions Atletico Madrid have moved in for Flying Eagles star Kingsley Sokari with the player’s transfer to Esperance of Tunisia now on the brink of collapse.
Sokari, 20, was in Tunisia to sign a three-year deal on June 22 after he further impressed the Tunis club at the FIFA U20 World Cup, but the former African champions have kept playing hide-and-seek with Enyimba even after both clubs had reached an agreement for the transfer.
And Enyimba have given Esperance an ultimatum to seal the player’s transfer this week or they will call it off.
“I have never seen anything like this,” revealed Sokari’s adviser Vincent Alumona.
“Esperance had shown seriousness in signing the player even before he went to play at the U20 World Cup and former Tunisian international Ziad Tlemcani, who is now an official of the club, got in touch with me.
“Because they were the first to ask for the boy and the fact that we believe Esperance’s pedigree as a top club in Africa will serve as a veritable launch pad for a career in Europe, it gave them the edge over other clubs who were interested.
“However, for more than two weeks they have failed to fulfill their end of the agreement reached with Enyimba.”
Last week Thursday, a scout of Atletico Madrid who had been alerted to Sokari’s prospects after the player featured for the Super Eagles in games against Cote d’Ivoire, Yemen and South Africa last January, inquired about the player.
It is believed that Atletico rate the player as a top future talent following his exploits with three-tiers of the Nigeria national teams - U20, U23 and Super Eagles.
Atletico were not aware of Sokari’s transfer to Esperance and that he has since returned to Nigeria.
Already, the Esperance drama has cost Sokari a place in the U23 team who will take on Congo in this weekend’s Africa U23 Championship qualifier in Port Harcourt after he had featured for the team in all four of their previous fixtures.
“Siasia understands the situation and was initially upset with the boy,” said Alumona.
“But I explained to him that technically he is still an Esperance player and so they had to sanction his invitation.”
Olympique Marseille and Al Ahly of Egypt had also shown interest in Sokari.

Mikel's 5m Euros pay demand scares Fenerbache

by Samm Audu
Turkish giants Fenerbahce have pulled out of the deal to sign Nigeria star Mikel Obi after the Chelsea midfielder demanded he be paid five million Euros a season, according to media reports.
Turkish-football quoted Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim as saying that his team did make an enquiry for the Jos-born star, but were put off by ‘The Blues’ high asking price and the players wage demands.
The Nigeria international asked for €5 million per-season on a four-year deal, while Chelsea want €15 million for Mikel to join the Turkish club.
“We made an enquiry for Mikel, the deal would have cost a total of €35 million. €15 million transfer fee to Chelsea and €5 million per-season on a four-year deal for the Nigerian international,” Yıldırım was quoted as saying by T urkish-football.com in a press conference at the Topuk Yayla training grounds.

Taiwo Backs Oliseh, Eyes Eagles Comeback

By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Out-of-favour Super Eagles left-back Taye Taiwo has welcomed the imminent appointment of former Juventus and Borrusia Dortmund star, Sunday Oliseh, as Super Eagles head coach.
The Nigeria Football Federation recently announced they were in talks with former Nigeria captain Oliseh to replace the sacked Stephen Keshi.
Oliseh is set to be unveiled this week as Super Eagles coach.
Taiwo, who won bronze with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations, thumbs up the choice of Oliseh.
“Oliseh is a former international who understands the game and it is nice that the NFF deemed it okay to go with one of our own,” Taiwo told comple tesportsnigeria.com.
“I’m not saying other capable coaches won’t suit the Eagles but we have to support the NFF on this. I wish Oliseh all the best.”
Speaking on his hopes to play in the national team again, the former Olympique Marseille, AC Milan, Dynamo Kiev and QPR defender said:
“The invitation of players is the prerogative of coaches. I want to play again for Nigeria, I still have the desire but I also want to sort out issues concerning my club football.”
Taiwo’s contract with Turkish side Bursaspor was terminated by mutual consent this year.
Completesportsnigeria.com was informed of offers that came the way of the one-time Gabros FC star, more recently two that came from second division clubs in Turkey which he turned down.

NPFL top scorer award to be named after Rasheed Yekini

The country’s league organising body has put mechanism in place to name the Nigeria topflight highest goal scorer award after the fallen Super Eagles’ legend
By Shina Oludare

Nigeria Professional Football League top scorer award will be named after legendary Rasheed Yekini, the League Management Company has hinted. According Shehu Dikko, chairman of the league organising body, the move is to immortalize the fallen Super Eagles hero for his contribution to Nigeria football in his playing days.
Aside from this, plans are in place for an end-of-the-season award for the top division which to him will create commercial value and additional revenues.
“There is a broad plan to institute awards and honour outstanding players, officials, key stakeholders and fans in the league at the end of every season and there are a number of factors that led us to reach the decision to name one of these awards, that of the highest goal scorer after the late Rasheed Yekini,” said Dikko.
“The awards is part of strategic plans of the LMC to create commercial value and additional revenues out of the assets inherent in the league property.
"We considered the aspiration factor which seeks to let the players know that they too can become national heroes if they achieve excellence and make a success of their career.
“It says to them that they too can become legends of the game and the society will honour them as we have sought to honour the late Yekini,” he concluded.
Yekini played for UNTL Kaduna, Shooting Stars, Abiola Babes, Julius Berger and Gateway FC.

Hearts expect Oshaniwa to complete move this week

Juwon Oshaniwa, right, battling with Angel Di Maria at last year's World Cup.
Robbie Neilson expects Nigerian internationalist Juwon Oshaniwa to arrive in Edinburgh this week in order to complete his move to Tynecastle.
The left-back has been granted a work permit for his switch to Scotland, but still requires the necessary paperwork that will allow him to travel to the Capital and complete the deal following his departure from Israeli club FC Ashdod.
Neilson has had to be patient, but says things are progressing and hopes to finally land his man over the next few days.
“It’s moving all the time,” said the Hearts boss. “It’s just that it takes time to get someone in to the country – you can’t just pick up the phone and bring them over. There’s a process that has to be gone through and you have to respect that as well, so it takes time but hopefully it’ll be at some point this week. Whether that’s early or late this week I don’t know, but we’re dealing with the British and Nigerian authorities.”
With one arrival seemingly imminent, Neilson plans on sending a number of his younger squad members out on development loans in order to increase their exposure to first team football. Players such as Gary Oliver, Liam Smith and Liam Henderson have featured heavily in Hearts’ pre-season fixtures, along with Sean McKirdy and Leon Jones.
As he did last season, Neilson hopes to secure temporary moves that will see several of them gain regular game time at as high a level as possible, with a number of clubs having already made enquiries.
“We’ll definitely try to get a few out on loan,” he revealed. “We’ll keep a hold of them until after the trip to England [to play Preston North End this Saturday] and then we’ll take it from there, but I know there’s been quite a lot of people interested in them. We’ll try and get them in to the Championship – you always try and get as high as you can for them, but it’s important they play, so whoever is interested, we’ll talk to them and see what it comes to.”

Oliseh signs Eagles contract Wednesday

by Samm Audu
Former Nigeria skipper Sunday Oliseh will on Wednesday in Abuja sign a contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the country’s new coach.
The contract signing will be done at a public presentation slated for the Abuja National Stadium Wednesday morning, officials informed AfricanFootball.com
Oliseh, 40, will replace Keshi, who was sacked for a breach of trust.

Oliseh and his Belgian sidekick, Jean Francois Lusciuto, are due to arrive in Abuja on Tuesday evening and meet with the NFF technical committee headed by Felix Anyansi-Agwu by 9pm same day at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The new Eagles coach has picked Losciuto because of his deep knowledge of African football as he has dirtied his hands in Togo, Rwanda and Burkina Faso.
AfricanFootball.com also gathered that Oliseh has said he will prefer to work with current Nigeria U23 goalkeeper Alloy Agu, meaning Ike Shorunmu will lose his position.

Nigeria: Keshi Over Stayed His Welcome - Jaja

By Tony Ezimakor
Former member of the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sam Sam Jaja, has blamed Stephen Keshi for his sack as Super Eagles Head Coach.
Jaja said that Keshi's problem was that he lacked confidence and also overrated himself, adding that the coach over stayed his welcome.
He said that Keshi overrated himself after winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and took advantage of the sentiment of former president, Goodluck Jonathan, to hang on to the Eagles job.
He said that Keshi was foisted on Nigerians by the Jonathan, acting on the chance victory of 2013 Nations Cup which he described as a 'flash in the pan'.
"I would have sacked him (keshi) if was there, because he has no confidence in himself," he said.
"When he won the Africa Cup of Nations, I told people that the best thing Keshi should do is to bow out when the ovation was loudest. But he didn't do that. He over rated himself, went to the World Cup and performed woefully.
"I thought the right thing for him to do was apologise to Nigerians and move on as someone who knows his limits. That would have given him some respect, he again didn't do that. Even when he was sacked and the government brought him back and foisted as bitter pill, I told friends that the best for Keshi was to quit. That sack has dealt his confidence a heavy blow; having lost confidence how can he build a team?"
He said that the manner Keshi was chasing after national team job, suggests a man who was not only desperate but lacking in confidence to excel on his assigned task, and therefore does not merit anybody's sympathy.
"Was he not aware he was under contract when he went to Equatorial Guinea to seek for job? If that was not so obvious, didn't he know he was under contract when he applied to coachCote d' Ivoire? Even when he was in a job he was looking for job elsewhere. So he was not comfortable and knew that he will not achieve anything dramatic.
"That perhaps was why he kept holding this one while looking for job elsewhere" Jaja reasoned, adding that Keshi deserved what he got from his former employers.

Oliseh to sign contract this week
By: George Akpayen

Former Nigerian captain, Sunday Oliseh, is set to officially ink a deal to become the Super Eagles head coach this Wednesday, supersport.com has been informed.
Administrative sources have confirmed that the contract of Oliseh is ready to be signed but that the two camps are appraising the agreement reached and should firm up the deal this week in an official ceremony in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.
The sources reveal that Oliseh is set to sign a five-year contract with the NFF.
NFF general secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, was tight-lipped when asked by supersport.com on the plans to officially land Oliseh as Nigeria's head coach this Wednesday.
Sanusi instead referred supersport.com to speak to the chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, on the matter.
"I think the best man to speak on the matter is the chairman of the (NFF) technical committee," he said on Monday.
But Anyansi-Agwu is currently out of the country and is only expected back this week before the contract signing and presentation of Oliseh in Abuja.
Last week, Anyansi-Agwu confirmed talks had been opened with Oliseh and "an offer has been made."
“An offer has been made, and there is understanding, but we have to work out the final details of the agreement in a few days. Of course, the Executive Board has to give approval for his appointment based on the final terms to be agreed,” Anyansi-Agwu told the NFF official website.
Oliseh holds a Uefa Pro Licence and is only coaching experience remains a stint with Belgian modest outfit, Royal Cercle Sportif Verviétois.
But the 40-year-old is also a member of the 20-man Fifa Technical Study Group.

Chelsea FC refuse to sell John Obi Mikel; Nigerian international set to stay despite Fenerbahçe interest

By Malhar Bhadbhade
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Chelsea FC this summer after falling down the pecking order over the past couple of seasons at Stamford Bridge, but is reportedly set to stay at the club despite foreign interest this summer
The inexorable debate about the usefulness – or lack thereof – of defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel is set to continue amongst Chelsea FC fans for another season after reports emerged indicating that the Nigerian is still seen as a part of José Mourinho’s plans.
Mikel, who has made 339 appearances for Chelsea FC over nine seasons, has seen his role in the side diminish over the past couple of seasons – particularly with the return of Nemanja Matić from Benfica in January 2014 – and is reportedly open to a move away from the English capital in search of first team football.
The Nigerian international has been linked with a move to Turkish Süper Lig club Fenerbahçe in the past week, but club president Aziz Yıldırım recently admitted a deal was unlikely.
Yıldırım is quoted by Turkish- tootball.comin a press conference as saying: “We made an enquiry for Mikel, the deal would have cost a total of €35 million. €15 million transfer fee to Chelsea and €5 million per-season on a four-year deal for the Nigerian international.”
In further confirmation that Mikel is likely to stay put at Chelsea FC, according to BBC Sport, a source close to the midfielder has revealed that the 28-year-old will not be leaving the club this transfer window.“There’s absolutely no truth to reports linking Mikel with a move to Turkey or any Chinese club for that matter,” the source is quoted as saying.
“Only two clubs from the UAE showed strong interest last month but they could not meet his club’s valuation. Mikel has a contract with Chelsea until 2017, as things stand he will not be leaving the club this transfer window as speculated.”
Jose Mourinho has refused to sanction the sale of John Mikel Obi, delivering a blow to UAE suitors Al Ain & Al Wahda:
The two UAE clubs are understood to be Al Ain and Al Wahda, with the former wrapping up the loan signing of Mikel’s compatriot Emmanuel Emenikeearlier this week.
Unless a club is ready to meet the valuation Chelsea FC have seemingly decided upon, and until Mourinho has a suitable replacement lined up, it appears unlikely that Mikel will be allowed to leave the club.
The Nigerian looks set to begin his 10th season at Stamford Bridge, and is expected to be part of the Blues squad that flies out to their pre-season training base in Montreal, Canada, later this week.

Azubuike Egwuekwe could well reunite with teammate Sunday Mba at Turkish second division club Yeni Malatyaspor, according to a report in Turkey.
The ambitious Turkish team already have AFCON 2013 hero Sunday Mba, who was Egwuekwe’s teammate both with warri Wolves and the Super Eagles, and little known Nigerian striker George Jamabo, a 20-year-old striker from Eupen in Belgium.
When contacted, Warri Wolves media officer Moses Etu told AfricanFootball.com a rash of clubs have shown interest in signing giant defender Egwuekwe, but would not disclose the identities of these clubs.
"A lot of foreign teams have shown interest in signing Azubuike, but I don't know more than that," Etu told AfricanFootball.com
When asked if any of the interested clubs have tabled a bid or the club have accepted any offer for the Jos-born player, Etu simply said: "Management matter."
Egwuekwe was recently linked with a move to West Ham United and Hapoel Tel Aviv.

NFF Can’t Afford Oliseh’s Salary

By: Sam O’Femi Olusetire
-Lack Of Funds Threatens Unveiling Ceremony
Another cloud of doubt is hanging over the possibility of former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh being unveiled as the team’s new head coach this Wednesday in Abuja, as SportsDay gathered on authority that Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) do not even have the money to pay his salary.
It was learnt late Monday that, in contrast with initial reports that the NFF have finalized plans to unveil Oliseh at a public event in midweek, after he reportedly agreed to collect N5m monthly salary, financial issues may yet put the event on hold.
Although officials at The Glasshouse were insistent up till Monday as well that they would go ahead with the unveiling in Abuja, a credible source told SportsDay in confidence that the schedule may not go ahead due to the NFF’s failure to carry their umbrella body, National Sports Commission (NSC) along in their plans.
The initial angle to the NSC logjam starring the NFF in the eye had been an observation that the soccer governing body had apparently taken an illegal route in arranging a deal for Oliseh, but SportsDay’s source says it goes beyond protocol.
While acknowledging that NFF president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick did not follow due process in reaching out to Oliseh, as he failed to carry the NSC along, the source further pointed out that the crux of the matter is how The Glasshouse would raise money to pay the coach.
The source pondered: “It is true that the NFF did not follow due process, since they did not tell the NSC what they were up to; but it goes beyond just protocol or lack of it. This is mostly about where the money to pay Oliseh will come from.
“As I speak, the NFF do not even have the money to pay Oliseh and will still have to run back to the NSC. Now that they failed to carry the NSC along in the process, who will approve the process of funding his salary?”
However, information from The Glasshouse late Monday indicated that Oliseh’s unveiling will still go ahead this Wednesday, in spite of reports in a section of the media indicating that the NSC had declared the appointment illegal, while another angle to the story says logistics for the signing had not been completed.
In contrast with all that, NFF officials told AfricanFootball.com that the contract signing will be done at a public presentation slated for Abuja National Stadium in the morning.
The rep[ort stated further that Oliseh and his Belgian aide, Jean Francois Lusciuto, are due to arrive Tuesday evening and meet with the NFF technical committee headed by Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu by 9pm same day at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, while the official signing would hold the following day.

Emenike Hits Transfer Goldmine

More facts have emerged about the undercurrents and untold factors that accounted for the shock transfer of Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike from Fenerbahçe of Turkey to Al-Ain of United Arab Emirates, as a breakdown of the deal’s financial details reveal that the all-action attacker is set to reap a huge pay packet from his sojourn in the Middle East.
Although the deal that has taken Emenike to replace Ghanaian captain, Asamoah Gyan at Al-Ain is only for a season on loan, the underlining trappings are suggestive of a possible extension into a permanent contract, which would see the striker prefer petro-dollars to the tax-free bliss he enjoyed in Turkey.
The report indicates that Emenike has hit the biggest goldmine of his evolving career, as he will pocket 3.7 million Euros (more than 925 million Naira) for his season-long stay in Dubai.
Incidentally, Fenerbahçe will not gain as much as they would had it been a direct transfer, but reports equally reveal that they actually insisted on extending Emenike’s contract by a year because they still believe they could still cash in on his next transfer rather than let him leave as a free agent.
Emenike has already been handed jersey No 9 at ‘The Ye’ of Dubai and will travel with the rest of the squad to Austria for pre-season training.
A top source told AfricanFootball.com Emenike’s latest move could well secure his future as the striker, who still dreams to play in England before he quits the game, is bound to smile to the bank on a daily basis during his stay in UAE.
“I have come across various figures that Emenike will be paid for moving to Al Ain, but they do not come close to what he will really get. He will pocket a staggering 3.7 million Euros for the time he will be on loan in Dubai,” disclosed the source,

Enyeama to be fined for Kaduna controversy

Emenike

The Nigeria Football Federation may have soft pedaled on a decision to banish goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama from the national team over his controversial comments regarding the safety of Kaduna for last month’s African Nations Cup qualifier against Chad.
The decision may not be unconnected with the furore that greeted the saga which included the Lille goalkeeper tearing a query given to him by the federation.
“Enyeama will now pay a fine and this will be treated internally,” a top official told africanFootball.com
The ex-Enyimba goalkeeper is the most capped Nigeria international after he made his 101st appearance for the Super Eagles against Chad in Kaduna.
Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has already been fined for his dismissal from the same match.

NFF reaches truce agreement with NSC over Sunday Oliseh’s unveiling

The NSC had queried the procedure used in hiring the new Super Eagles’ coach and his Belgian assistant claiming it needs to follow the Procurement Act
By Shemmy Sholabomi

Oliseh

The Nigeria Football Federation moved to pacify the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Al Hassan Yakmut and solicited support for the unveiling of Sunday Oliseh as the new coach of the Super Eagles.
On Monday afternoon, the NFF general secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi met with Yakmut at the NSC secretariat at the Abuja National Stadium where they had a closed door meeting relating to the appointment and unveiling of the former national team captain.
Feelers from the NSC pointed to a truce while the Director General also gave some conditions the NFF needs to meet before the NSC could accept Oliseh as the new coach.
But the NFF Scribe kept mute on the outcome of the meeting while there was no official reaction to the visit by the National Spots Commission.
However, it was learnt that the unveiling of Oliseh would go according to plan while the federation would comply fully with NSC directives on the matter.
The NSC had queried the procedure used in hiring the new Super Eagles’ Chief Coach and his Belgian assistant claiming it needs to follow the Procurement Act.
Oliseh’s foreign assistant too needs the clearance of the Federal Government which ought to be done by the National Sports Commission.
It is hoped that both the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation would come out with a public pronouncement on the matter today to put it to rest.

Six Nigerians In UCL Qualifiers Action

By Johnny Edward:
No fewer than six Nigerian players will feature for their respective teams in Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League second qualifying round first legs across Europe, completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Nosa Igiebor was part of Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 23-man squad that travelled for their away fixture against Maltese side Hibernians and he is expected to play a part in the encounter.
In Denmark, Rilwan Hassan and Babajide Akintola are both in line for action for their Danish side, Midtjylland, who will make their UEFA Champions League debut against Lincoln Red Imps FC from Gibraltar.
Hassan was instrumental in Midtjylland’s title triumph last season, making 24 appearances and scoring three goals while Akintola was recently promoted to the first team.
In Bulgaria, Nigerian defender Ovye Monday and his Milsami teammates will battle Bulgarian champions Ludogorets for a place in the next round.
Milsami qualified for the second round of the UEFA qualifiers following a successful 2014/15 season that saw them beat Sheriff and Dacia to the League title with a superior goals difference. Monday scored twice in 22 games for the champions.
Super Eagles duo of Rabiu Ibrahim and Kinglsy Madu are both expected to feature for FK AS Trenčín who host Romanian side Steaua Bucureşti.
Rabiu scored four goals in 17 league games last season while Madu was on target twice in 15 games for the Slovakian champions.
Meanwhile, FK Sarajevo new acquisition Harmony Ikande will play no part in his side’s clash against Lech Poznan Completesportsnigeria.com can exclusively report.
The 24-year-old midfielder who penned a two-year deal with the Bosnian outfit is still awaiting his clearance papers.
“My papers are not completed yet so I won’t feature,” he told Completesportsnigeria.com.

Oliseh: Why Eagles Must Fly Again

In-coming Super Eagles head coach, Sunday Oliseh believes turning the fortunes of the Nigerian national team from its sorry state of late to the enviable height of 1994 is a mission that must be accomplished.
Oliseh will be unveiled on Wednesday in Abuja as the successor to Stephen Keshi who was relieved of his job penultimate weekend but the former Nigeria defensive midfielder says in an article he wrote on his website, SundayOliseh.tv the state of the Super Eagles “is of paramount importance to the development of our youths and local football and its fortunes has a multiplier effect on the nation’s football.”
He believes if the Eagles start achieving results again it will encourage foreign clubs to buy more players from the national team and the local leagues.
“This action at the same time makes available hard currency to our people, clubs and eventually permeates youth development. It will trickle down from the top.
“Before Our 1994 explosion, we had most of our national team players and professionals (footballers) plying their trade in Belgium. After our 1994 brilliant performance at the World Cup’ Clubs came buying from everywhere. Holland, France, Italy, Germany just to name a few, and hence started the exodus of Nigerian players and at the same time, the consequential improvement and uplifting of our nation as a world soccer force to be reckoned with,” wrote Oliseh.
Oliseh further highlighted some of the steps that need to be taken to restore the fortunes of the team. He believes a viable local league is a sine qua non for the transformation of the team.
He also harped on the need to have quality people get into position of authority such that those going into the Nigeria Football Federation must see their task as one of career development and service to Nigeria and not one to enrich themselves.
Oliseh also believe getting the Super Eagles to play in a specific venue will help in the transformation plan.
“We need to fix and maintain a fixed venue for the national team games like the Wembley Stadium is to the English national team, the Three Lions. That way our players can feel at home on these pitches and not have to discover the state of the pitches same time as their opponents,” he wrote in the article.

Midfield ace set to stay at Chelsea after transfer falls through
Written byTerrelle Iziren

BLUES BROTHER: John Obi Mikel

CHELSEA MIDFIELDER John Obi Mikel appears likely to remain with the reigning Premier League champions following Turkish club Fenerbahce's witdrawal of their interest in the player
According to the London Evening Standard, the club refused to match Chelsea's £10.7 million price tag in addition to the Nigerian international's £70,000 a week wage demands.
Last month, United Arab Emirates team Al Ain had reached an agreement with Mikel over personal terms but the move failed to materialise due to the player's value.
Captain of the Nigerian national team, Mikel has been on Chelsea's books since 2006 when he joined from French giants Lyon, perhaps making his situation even more reassuring when Mourinho - the manager who originally signed Mikel -claimed recently that he is happy for the player to remain at the club.

Nigeria: Presidency Kicks Against Foreign Assistant for Oliseh

By Tony Ezimakor
Abuja — The Presidency has kicked against the choice of Foreign Assistant to incoming Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh.
Also the Presidency is not favourably disposed towards the planned unveiling of Oliseh on Wednesday because his appointment does not follow due process.
The presidency action is premised on the state of the economy.
Consequently, the National Sports Commission (NSC), on Monday summoned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), over the choice of Oliseh with its General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, spending the greater part of the day at the Commission.
The NSC has directed that the unveiling of Oliseh be suspended for lack of due process.
The development came as informed presidency source confirmed that a caveat has been placed on planned engagement of foreign assistant for the incoming Super Eagles Head Coach.
Oliseh had recommended Belgian assistant, Francois Loscuito, but the choice has angered top personalities in the frugal President Mohammadu Buhari's administration.
It was learnt that both number one and two citizens are not disposed to hiring a foreigner for job that can be handled by a Nigerian.
In the face of biting economic hardship in the country, the source disclosed that Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo, frowned at the decision of the NFF to engage a foreigner without recourse to the federal government.
We also learnt that the decision by NSC to query the sack of Stephen Keshi and the planned engagement and his foreign assistant was direct response to the presidential caveat.
Sanusi and Amaju Pinnick looks when they returned from NSC last night said it all. But Pinnick assured that the unveiling would go ahead after the NFF has cleared issues with NSC.

Stoke City Move Off As Manager Confirms Chelsea’s Plans

Stoke City’s move for Chelsea midfielder Victor Moses appears to be off, with Potters boss Mark Hughes stating that he believes Jose Mourinho has plans for the Nigerian in West London next season.

Moses has spent the last two-years since Mourinho’s return to Chelsea on-loan at Liverpool and Stoke, whilst he struggled to make an impression in the first-team in his initial season after his arrival from Wigan Athletic in 2012.
Stoke had expressed a desire to bring the 24-year-old back to Staffordshire for the next season but Hughes has conceded defeat in the chase, stating a deal is not currently possible due to Mourinho’s plans for the Nigerian.
“I think Chelsea have a view on Victor. What they’re thinking, we believe, is that they would possibly like to keep him. If they go into the market again that could change that idea.”
“Victor obviously came to us last year and did exceptionally well for us. There were a couple of injuries that hampered him unfortunately but he showed enough in his time with us that it made Chelsea very aware of the talent they have and what Victor could offer.”
“It could be that Victor now plays a part at Chelsea.”

Doom looms for Oliseh’s assistant

By Jude Opara, Abuja
Feelers from the National Sports Commission indicate that there are lots of hurdles for Super Eagles coach designate, Sunday Oliseh to cross before his appointment could be sealed by the Nigeria Football Federation.
The Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Mohammed Sanusi was seen at the NSC secretariat, locked in a meeting with Mallam Alhassan Yakmut, the Director General of the NSC where issues surrounding the engagement of Oliseh was discussed.
The meeting which lasted for over an hour was centred on the procedure the NFF went about the recruitment of Oliseh to succeed Stephen Keshi who was sacked last week.

Sunday Oliseh

While the NSC was angered over the fact that the NFF went about it’s business with Oliseh without seeking its approval, as stipulated by the civil service Procurement Act, the matter was said to have assumed a new dimension when it was noted that Oliseh was being engaged with a foreign assistant.
The NFF confirmed Sunday Oliseh will be working with a foreign assistant, Jean Francois Losciuto from Belgium.
The federal government is said to have issued a directive to all federal agencies warning that before any foreigner could be employed in Nigeria, such an opening must be one that there is no Nigerian who can do the job.
Our source further revealed that the main issue with the employment of Oliseh is the permission by the NFF that he should come along with a foreign assistant, a development which the NSC is said to be uncomfortable with, given the government’s directive on employment of foreigners.
However the source added that the NFF may still get the clearance to unveil Oliseh as earlier planned but whether he will still get the nod to engage the foreign assistant is what is yet to be determined.

Nigeria: NFF'll Make Oliseh's Contract Public - Pinnick

By Chibuike Chukwu
Lagos — President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has told Nigerians not to panic over the contractual details of the incoming Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh. He promised that the NFF would make the whole issue public at the right time.
Pinnick told Nigerians to exercise patience concerning the details of the contract with Oliseh, saying that nothing would be hidden from them.
"Nigerians should exercise patience. They should allow us to finish what we are doing first, and then everything will be laid bare before them.
"When we finish with the contract issue, then Nigerians will know the kind of contract we have entered with the coach. Everything we are doing is for the betterment of Nigerian football.
After the sack of Stephen Keshi , the NFF has entered negotiation with Oliseh to replace Keshi.
Oliseh, who is expected in Abuja today, will be unveiled on Wednesday.
He is expected to touch down in Abuja at about 4pm, and will meet with NFF.
The coach hinted that he had begun work as Super Eagles coach.
Responding to a fan on twitter who asked when he would resume, Oliseh said, "How do you know I have not resumed already? Cheers."
Oliseh holds a UEFA Pro Licence and is only coaching experience remains a stint with Belgian modest outfit, Royal Cercle Sportif Verviétois.
But the 40-year-old is also a member of the 20-man FIFA Technical Study Group.

Nigeria: Lulu Mum Over Oliseh

By Augustine Akhilomen
Lagos — Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sani Lulu, has refused to comment on the appointment of Sunday Oliseh as Super Eagles Head Coach on the premise that he does not know the criteria considered before his appointment.
Oliseh, who had talks with the NFF last week on the possibility of replacing sacked Stephen Keshi, will be unveiled on Wednesday.
Lulu pointed out that though he has no problem with Oliseh, he, however, said that Oliseh once applied for the job under his tenure and seem not to understand the criteria behind his appointment.
"When I was in the FA Oliseh came for the interview and never got the job. All I know is that he is a Nigerian and If the NFF has gotten him and has confirmed his appointment that is good," Lulu said.
"But what is more important is that whosoever is there should produce results that will lift Nigeria to the desire level of happiness. So we all should try and wish him well. I wouldn't want to go into the basic criteria used in appointing Oliseh," he said.

Will Amodu take a pay cut?

by Samm Audu
It is now left to be seen if Shuaibu Amodu will take a massive pay cut of over a million Naira as Nigeria technical director.
AfricanFootball.com specially gathered that Amodu was on two million Naira a month while he was working on a project at Edo State, but he has now been offered a monthly salary of 800,000 Naira by the NFF as the country’s technical director.
“Amodu claims there was an agreement he will be paid what he received in Edo State only for him to find out through his appointment letter that he will be on 800,000 Naira,” a top source informed AfricanFootball.com
The several times Super Eagles coach has made his position on this matter very clear to the NFF.
Also, it was gathered that Amodu will want a clear definition of roles after it was announced that Sunday Oliseh and his foreign assistant Jean Francois Loscuito will design a five-year developmental programme for Nigerian football.
Amodu will be in Tuesday night’s technical committee meeting with Oliseh and his assistant during which it is hoped this matter will be fully addressed.

Ijeh drums support for Oliseh
by Tana Aiyejina

Retired Nigerian striker, Peter Ijeh

Former Nigeria striker Peter Ijeh has backed Sunday Oliseh to succeed as coach of the Super Eagles.
Ijeh, a former top goal scorer in the Nigerian league, said Oliseh will be a success if he gets the right environment to thrive.
“His (Oliseh) appointment was awesome and we must begin to celebrate our own. He can succeed only if he is given the right atmosphere and resources needed. Of course Nigerians have to be positive and support him, not sabotage his efforts,” the Sweden-based Ijeh, who holds a UEFA license in coaching, said.
On Oliseh’s preference for a foreigner as one of his assistants, alongside Salisu Yusuf, Ijeh added, “That’s his choice but I believe there are other Nigerians with equal qualifications that can do the job too.
It will depend on where he (Oliseh) needs help. Salisu’s job will focus on the home-based players and their integration. But the Nigeria Football Federation still needs a developmental trainer on specifics. A playing culture is necessary for easy integration of the young players. But the developmental programme has to be flexible and not rigid.”
Meanwhile, football administrator Shuaib Gara Gombe says the Nigeria Football Federation did not follow due process in the appointment of Sunday Oliseh as the new coach of the Super Eagles.
“His (Oliseh) appointment is against the laws of the land because due process was not followed. When a vacancy exists in the national team, there should be a call for applications. The Technical Committee has to interview the applicants and then report to the Executive Committee before a decision is taken and eventual announcement (made),” Gara Gombe stated on Facebook.
“With the kind of responsibilities given to Oliseh as enumerated on the NFF website, it is not a job that should have been given at the comfort of a Marriott Hotel in London. In as much as the NFF Act is still in force and the body is not a private organisation, it must subject itself to the laws of our land, which stipulates due process in the appointment of public servants including the coach of the national team.”
