Lagosians and South Westerners should demand for 80% control of the Korean company since they won't be able to 'farm' with their land again and a bill should be passed so that the company will remit 10% of its annual income to the region they are 'polluting'.

Why in Lagos? Other states need this plants and industries more abeg.

Lagos is already too freaking populated. They could have opened it in Rivers or Alwa Ibom kf they are worried about closeness to the port and hence materials.

Even the excuse of market is not feasible as deliveries can be made. The concentration of industries in one state is causing more pressure on Lagos which is it smallest state according to landmass already.

Lol, I was going to say the same thing. Must everything being sited in Lagos?

That's the smallest state in the country, yet it's ridiculously snarled-up with a population that's about 2-3 times what it should have, even if it were meant to be a cosmopolitan city.

The city ought to be decongested - something like this one should be taken to a different state. Ditto the refinery they're building there.

Every state has the right to woo investors including Lagos. Investors chose where there think is best for their business so its not Fashola's fault that people love his state.

GEJ wasn't playing , that makes the third assembly plant.
I see Toyota(the big one) and Honda following soon, we really need Toyota , their manufacturing model is the industry hallmark and can enable Nigeria to develop and realise our industrial pottential.

FG need to however support Innoson with tax cits and maybe buy a stake in the company. Innoson should be looking into vehicle design for Nigerian use, a few models that are Africa specific with attractive value and features.

Maybe even venture into military vehicles lord knows the army need people carries and squad vehicles , specialists vehicles to suit the police force/security agencies and other similar units can also be of value.

It seems multinationals are convinced, lagos is the only place they can set up their businesses and I dont blame them giving the current business climate in Nigeria

The FG should give them incentives to look at other places

Leading automobile brand Kia Motors Nigeria has unveiled a new assembly plant in Lagos, which is expected to produce 25,000 vehicles every year
The plant named United Vehicle Assembly Limited (UVAL) will be part of Nigeria's robust automotive policy of making the nation a leading manufacturing hub, said officials from UVAL.
Nigerian minister for industry, trade and investment Olusegun Aganga paid a visit to the plant, stating that it was technologically advanced and had quality assurance control measures in place.
UVAL CEO Jacky Hathiramani said, "We are committed to contributing immensely to the development of the nation through this multi-billion investment. We have taken our growth commitment to a greater height in Nigeria and repositioned our brand by supporting the Nigeria dream."
The plant has employed engineering graduates from Nigerian universities and will continue to provide employment for locals.
In line with a commitment made in 2014 to produce vehicles locally, Kia Motors recently launched its made-in-Nigeria automobiles such as Kia Rio, Cerato, Optima, Sorento and Soul. By the end of 2015, the South Korean company will be producing all its flagship models, including sedans, sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pick-ups in the West African nation.

Lagos can always direct the investors to states close to Lagos. These greedy plonkers aren't helping the state - they're destroying it with their greed. Heck, those originally from Lagos don't even have a place to call home anymore and they're slowly but surely becoming endangered species on their ancestral land.

Err, I thought APC is also in-charge of most SW states? Why can't they move some of these companies there if they want to keep it in-house? STOP THE MADNESS - the place is too congested, for fvck sake!

GEJ's auto policy just represents the bitter-sweet relationship the man had with Nigerians.

On one hand, the policy was pretty decent, attracting foreign car makers to set up assembly hubs in Nigeria, boosting the economy and creating jobs.

On the other hand, it constituted a renewed offensive on ordinary Nigerians and common sense . Needlessly jacking up import duties for imported cars even when local production was still less than 1% of demand, pretending as if increase in import duties was the only way to make investment attractive (as if tax breaks and car purchase schemes weren't enough) and shamelessly giving waivers to crony car retailers to import at old rates.

One hopes that Buhari will take this scheme, support it with common sense decisions and excise all cronyism from the matter. Then Nigeria will become better.
Common sense will not allow economy to grow;you need policy that will allow for enabling environment. No pain no gain. Nigeria will realise later GEJ meant well. God bless Nigeria.

Stark illiterate, can you post in English Language because I don't understand illiterate-speak? Isn't it funny that silly pillocks like you with no connection whatsoever to the place are always the ones who champion this illiterate show of greed and shame?

Even in business, you don't take every offer thrown at you, hence you have associates you can always refer business interests to. So if an investor is interested in Lagos, the LSG can always refer them to states with close proximity to Lagos since the place is already snarled-up. You don't take every offer you get, once you start doing it, it shows you're utterly greedy and you'll self-destruct in the end. And that's the story of Lagos.

How many cosmopolitan cities in decent countries on this planet look like the giant slum Lagos is? That's basically because these people won't let the place breathe and get some fresh air. When you plan a city - you combine nature with industries, and designate certain things to different areas. Hence most major cities have big parks everywhere, and different parts are designated to cater to different things. You don't just copy and paste every darn thing in one state. Those from Lagos are also being pushed out of the state with this show of shame and utter greed.

Vacuous plonkers who think governance is just about maximising taxes.
