otokx: You're right, and wrong. Ports make logistical hubs. Logistical hubs make cities. When Lagos is done building all the ports in the world, if it doesn't make a good logistical hub out of itself, then mark my words "Close down the ports," will become an election issue in the not too distant future. So I think the visionaries the Niger delta people need are those who figured out how to make having just ONE port work in places like Hong Kong and Singapore, by building excellent transport infrastructure. As in, without EXCELLENT transport infrastructure Lagos will NOT handle the stress of the ports, so people should question the logic of building all these ports AT THE SAME TIME. Instead of building them as the transport infrastructure improves. 1 Like |

stevecantrell: As in, serious one. The Western region needs high speed rail links asap, linking Lagos to other states. Otherwise "development" will become future problems in disguise. 3 Likes |

NewNigeriaMind: Yes, I'm told it does. However, the scale of dredging activities for current projects is upsetting a fragile balance along parts of Lekki peninsula. You need to stop at some point. 1 Like |

stevecantrell: All you are doing here is ranting without objectivity. Eko Atlantic City pre-dates Fashola's regime. It is not Fashola's project but Fashola had no logical reason to discontinue a private-sector funded project that extensive EIA (Environmental impact assessment) shows is entirely safe and viable. Unless you are more published and learned than the many world-class experts who had given the project the go-ahead then I suggest you stop making sentimental statements not supported by established facts. The EIA for the Eko Atlantic City project can be accessed using the link below for those who wish to conquer ignorance and unfounded hearsay. http://www.ekoatlantic.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/EkoAtlantic-EIA-Summary.pdf 4 Likes |

stevecantrell:Before the famous wall that protected Lagos island was built, you could have come with this argument and it would be a serious threat but with the wall, the project is protected. What happened is that most of the water have been pushed to places like Badagary. Have you compared the height of the waves at the beaches in Lagos with those in Badagary? That is the impact of the wall 3 Likes |

stevecantrell: You and Grandstar are right. That's the problem I have with the Lekki exp way expansion. No BRT Lane! No rail line! Oversized roundabouts instead of bridges! Looks like proper planning was not done. I fear we are heading for a major traffic disaster on the road - that's if it is not here yet! 2 Likes |

Gbawe: You are free to your opinions, biased or otherwise. However the case, any report neglecting to state the lifespan of such a project is being economical with the truth. Even Julius Berger put a 50 years lifespan on the Lekki peninsular. Environmentalists screaming about the impact of the massive dredging ongoing in Lagos are ignorant and spreading unfounded hearsay ? The news reports monitoring the effects on Lagos beaches are hearsay Lol ! Not your fault, really.... ! 1 Like |

johnie: We need several flyovers along that Lekki expressway , at the very least. imagine refineries, depots, and tankers along that area. Then add a Seaport and the resulting traffic from all of these. The chaos arising from such is best imagined. What Lagos needs now is rail rail RAIL !!! 2 Likes |

stevecantrell: Oh yea, flyovers, alternative roads and (cargo & human) rail service are imperative. Otherwise, that axis will grind to a halt. 1 Like |

skyfall:Yes flyovers and the rest but Lagos is going to expand through another corridor; Epe into Ijebu back linking Ikorodu and forming a long strip of economic areas into Ogun waterside and Olokola deep seaport in Ondo state. Don't bother too much, many immigrants will settle in fringes of Ogun State 1 Like |

mandarin:Exactly. Lagos cannot carry a 30 million population with only 900km2. land area. What the governors in the neighboring states should do is to set up regional rail links connecting their states to the metropolitan areas of Lagos. That way, one can live in Abeokuta and commute daily to work in Lagos. |

mandarin: The planned route of the 4th mainland bridge should take care of most this. Still, nothing can replace the need for a passenger and freight rail network linking these projects within the state, as well as to other future logistical hubs within the SW region. Cash is the key. 2 trillion Naira is a very conservative estimate. 1 Like |

Everything that has been said here (and some stuff that hasn't been said, eg, the coastal road) has already been mapped out a long time ago. However, cash is the key. http://www.lamata-ng.com/rail_services.php http://www.blackborderbuild.com/railway/ogun-state-rail-network-route-unveiled-or-is-it-the-lagos-ogun-transit-network http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ogun-ccecc-sign-mou-on-light-rail-project/207967/ http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/pagelinks.php?p=19 http://dailyindependentnig.com/2012/06/new-masterplan-for-lagos-development/ https://www.nairaland.com/222881/transformation-nigeria-part-iii-lekki 1 Like |
