Common you can do better than this. This is a reported speech by an observer, 3rd party, not even the words of John nor that of Jesus (read the English again). I don't even think John said such statement otherwise why in reported speech? We are talking of gospel of John here (John 1:29): he could have easily said: The next day I saw him coming and said ........ . On John 3:16 pls see my earlier post. The RSV has remove the begotten as a fabrication while the word son of God was commonly used in the old testament and it does not imply divinity.

The big question is who rewrite the gospel of John and attribute it to John?

Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)

So when Jesus came He said He is the Son of God
