Disturbed by massive criticisms that greeted the creation of Office of the Wife ‘of the President , Presidency denies that Buhari is not funding Aisha Buhari’s office.
‘Her only visit to that office was at the point of the take-over of the Villa by the incoming administration,’ Shehu said.

According to Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, the presidency has said that ‘there will be no access to public funds’ for Aisha Buhari’s platform as the ‘ostentation, ubiquitousness and arrogance’ expected from the office are over and done with.’

In a report by Vanguard, Shehu reiterated that though an official portfolio was yet to be assigned to Aisha, ‘The ideal platform from which she will be useful to Nigeria’s women and children is still being thought out.’

‘Once this has been concluded on, Mrs. Buhari’s role will become clearer to all Nigerians. There will be nothing shady or hidden about it. There will be no access to public funds. It will be purely private and voluntary,’ Shehu added.

Speaking further, Shehu said, ‘President Buhari promised that there would be a clear difference between the role played by his wife during his tenure and that played by many previous First Ladies.

‘All that ostentation, ubiquitousness and arrogance we have come to expect from the office are over and done with. Change has come.
‘Her only visit to that office was at the point of the take-over of the Villa by the incoming administration,’ Shehu said.

He added that the meeting during which she hosted the wives of governors was held in a section of the Villa’s banquet hall, not in the First Lady’s office.

Perhaps you don't understand that all government spending must be legally passed in an appropriation law, by the national assembly, and this government has no plans to do that. Certainly she will have staff to advise her on the charities and good works she wishes to or is invited to support, but no one should go there looking for contracts or other frivolous activities. That is how wives of leaders in civilised settings conduct themselves. Aisha Buhari is not your comedic Dame.

Whoever is the marabout that cast this mass hypnosis spell for so many Nigerians to sheepishly believe everything that comes out of pmb or apc really tried. Still e no go better for that devil.

Whether the money Aisha is already spending is 'legally passed in appropriation law' under the office of the wife of the president or under the office of the first lady or under the office of the president himself is immaterial. She will still spend money and lots of it too. Pmb clearly said he was not going to have office of the first lady and by extension pet project for his wife (afterall what then is Ministry of Women & Youths for?) so why is he trying to introduce the same through the back door if not that he is already loosing control of the woman? He should just make her the Minister if he wants to be believed. Garba should not try to sell bulls to us by vaguely saying the funding source is 'private & voluntary'.

What we are seeing now is a clear case of OBT - obtaining by trickery. The husband obtained the office by OBT, the wife too will spend the money by OBT!

Buhari owes no one any explanation. If he decides to make a u-turn and create a government-funded office of the first lady, he still has my full support because he is a massive breath of fresh air compared to what Nigeria has suffered in the last 6 years, in the name of presidency. The respect he wields alone, on the world scene, already makes him one of the finest and the best that this country has ever had.

Any wailing cretins making noise and causing distraction should be rounded up and sentenced to life on a remote island that GEJ presides over.

Buhari is it from your salary you are paying that senior special assistant to the wife of the president?

Femi and Garba try harder!Maybe it is APC that gave that campaign promise also. During campaign he was waving broom and yapping whatever enters his head, making unsolicited promises just to get to power. He fooled the zombies and baboons actually but they don't know yet.

There is still this thing called security vote running into billions every month and president is at discretion to spend as he pleases.. Pls stop insulting our intelligence. Over $5bn he spent on bailing out states, was it appropriated or captured in the FY 2015?

It is rather ignorant to think the ministry of women /youth exists to give the wife of the president something to do. Please remember noone ever heard of Mrs Gowon when her husband was our leader. Mariam Babangida at least had a novel idea but since her time it has been copycat season and the garrulous patience Jonathan was just a scandalous display of the couples general depravity and lust for money and self adoration. You may want to tell us clearly exactly what Mrs Buhari has been spending money on, since you are so full of indignation about something. You probably didn't give them your vote, but there you are, ranting like you ever wished Nigeria the best outcome from the election.

So when your elected governors beg the president to bail them out of a financial crisis, and he agrees to do so in consultation with all the political authorities, this becomes a problem for you? The same people criticising the governors for not paying salaries blah blah... Interesting. This was an emergency situation and a request that will surely not be repeated.
Has anyone been asking for funds for any first lady activity? How would it qualify as a security vote matter, or do you think Buhari is a thief in the style of Jonathan and the regular political class? I can hardly be insulting something whose existence is yet to be established.

This is our commonwealth and should have been used to bail out other governors that had received their monthly allocations and misappropriated them.
For Buhari to renege on his public promise of not recognising the office of the first land and then secretly created one and appointed SA/PA shows that he has the ulterior motive of funding this office secretely with public funds. GMB has damaged his integrity!!

The revenues of Nigeria are rightly spent on the people of Nigeria. If you have a problem with your governor, that is unfortunate but they are the elected representatives of their respective states and the president cannot fold his hands and watch workers go unpaid and strikes break out across the land to prove some point. Spending by workers also stimulates the economy and that has to be taken into consideration.
As for the office of the first lady, when you discover how it is being illegally funded, do let us know. Until then all you have is baseless speculation. The era of the ridiculous Dame is over.

It's not Nigeria that owes them but their governors. Money for worker is collected every month by their thieving governors.. Don't blame states and governors that played by the rule prudently and BLAME rogue governors u guys elected.

The state government employs and owes workers, not the governor. The states revenues are not only for salaries, especially when the public sector is the most wretched and unproductive part of the economy. Perhaps if NOI was not stealing from rainy day fund, the governors would not have taken the federal government to court to declare the scheme unconstitutional. Certainly many governors have been reckless in managing their states, but this is a democracy and the presumption is that you elected them with your eyes wide open.

Another brainless partisan brigand talking. Monthly allocations from FG are used to pay salaries and capital projects- that's why state budgets are divided into recurrent and capital expenditures. Workers' salaries are funded by recurrent expenditure.
Nobody has stolen from these governors, rather they have stolen from their people. FG budget is an act of NASS and sharing formula is legal statue-governors could have sued of FG stole from them and they never did. Tinubu sued OBJ and won when he withheld Lagos monthly allocations. Pls find better excuses for ur pay masters

In trying to defending one of the stupid gaffes of pmb and his administration, you have only succeeded in shooting yourself in the foot!

By reminding us that 'no one ever heard of Mrs Gowon when her husband was our leader', you re-affirm pmb's original position that his wife can survive without being in the limelight so what did Garba mean by saying that 'the ideal platform for her (Aisha) to be useful to Nigerian women and children is still being thought out' especially since we already have a whole ministry to think about women and children If my sarcasm on this was lost on you, blame yourself.
And as for whether she is spending money or not, were you and Garba who said the funding source is 'private and voluntary' trying to convince yourselves that the money spent to print her official stationery and emblem with which she invited guests and threw parties is not government money??

I really don't care which title Aisha chooses to bear - first lady o, Wife of the president o or official cook for the president so long as she does not spend one kobo of government money (except ofcourse what is her constitutional or matrimonial right) according to her husband's promises. Anything short of this is obtaining by trickery or is OBT not part of the corruption you are chanting?

Let me also remind you that it is completely irrelevant whether i or anyone else voted Buhari because the oath of office he swore to did not make that discrimination and you and he have to live with it.

There will be assistants to work with her and stationery (lol, really) etc. But beyond her movements and the works she wishes to undertake, she has no official portfolio, no budget blah blah. It is not yours or my business if she wishes to be high or low profile. That is another discussion altogether. Carry on speculating sha... You opened the can of worms but now you avoid answering the question of why she must be in the limelight even at the cost of making her husband look stupid. According to Garba she has only visited the offices of the first lady once and does not intend to use the offices yet she has official stationery and special assistants to work with her. My guess is that they are all working from her kitchen table helping her prepare food for her husband, abi?

Personally i hate this ridiculous hypocrisy and the more effort y'all make to justify it by painting PEJ as a demon, the more nuseating it gets.
This should have been an easy promise for pmb to keep and demonstrate integrity but he couldnt because he is already loosing control of the woman oohh wait o, could that have been his reason for not wanting her to show face in the first place
