So you admit we are not doing the right thing. We always admit this but yet not change.

We have an impression of ourselves which is larger and far from reality. As a nation we need to get out mentality right. Roll up our sleeves collectively and work for the country not all this short term I must be a millionaire attitude we have.

We don't value hard work anymore and we are all taking short cuts looking for that quick riches.

We now look down on people who career dreams with statement like you cannot be rich working for someone etc. Everyone must do business because the goal is riches. We have a long way to go.

If we are frank! He said the truth.! so we should rather think to change the mentality by putting things right. Even revisiting the expatriate employment. All sort of persons come under the guise of expatriate whether they qualify or not. Have even seen fresh school leavers been employed as expatriate some people with little or no work experience in the area they are manning are also employed expatriate, all sort of abnormalities happen here!

Okay you have just proven the man right. We do import intelligence, otherwise why would anyone write this in the modern world. Nobody will employ you on the basis of qualifications. It is 'skills' that employers are looking for.

How many Nigerians do we have heading global companies?

Should i list Indians for you? Pepsi, Microsoft, Deloitte, former Vodafone, former Citigroup, just past Deutche Bank. Should I continue?

If we are honest we know he is telling the truth.

We have a poor attitude to work a work always looking for the short cut and quick riches.

He is an idiot
In as much as what he said is truth you can't help but not the insulting tone in which he said it. It is the same Nigeria he is condemning that he makes his daily bread from to feed himself and his family at home if his country is the best why isn't he at home developing it.
I blame the government for not placing an embargo on the bringing in of foreign rats into this country to Lord it over us when they aren't even worth 2cents and a nickel in theirs. His own country where there is poverty and they still give birth every ten minutes with their confused people with 100gods in just one man's house and increase in child marriage
Op why couldn't you Answer him if you really felt bad instead of bringing it to nairaland I know Nigeria is bad but I believe we are going to be better and are even way better than some countries in the world.

also, see d comment abt us importing intelligence.
He stated it exactly as it is and you are bothered? The truth is really bitter. Truly, we import intelligence whether you accept or not. How do you explain the high influx of foreigners in all our construction companies? Are our engineering graduates just paper holders? Are they not intelligent and fit enough?

I never doubted Nigerians are smart, but I find interesting this atitude we have of trying to put others down to show how good we are e.g. your statement insinuating that Indians are not smart or Nigerian are smarter.

That Indian guys statement was the pure truth . Has nothing to do with Indians or Nigerians being smart or not.

There was an article the other about Nigerian having one of the largest LNG and the article went on to say but yet they still import refined gas. With all our smartness. Please.

We have put ourselves in the place we are today. Successive leaders of this country have made this country the laughing stock that it is today to the outside world because they failed to do things differently.

How can you reconcile this, a restaurant owner whose children languish in hunger and starvation. That is the real picture of Nigeria and Nigerians.

So I don't blame the Indian for expressing his views about Nigeria.
We have everything that is needed to be a great nation, but because of the mismanagement, inefficiency and lack of foresight of the people we allowed to oversee what God has blessed us with we are where we are today.

Very very well said especially the bold portion. Sad situation. Ghana and Kenya have become the super powers of African despite the fact that they don't possess as much human capita (labor and intelligence) and natural resources as Nigeria does.

Countries like Japan doesn't even come close to the natural resources that Nigeria has, but they compensate by pooling in their human capita.

Nigeria has both human and natural resources, and yet................

The Indian said nothing but the truth.

Is Nigeria not a major oil producing country? YES IT IS.

Does Nigeria import diesel and petrol? YES IT DOES.

This are well known global facts!

Is Nigeria also importing intelligence? YES IT DOES, thats why u have all manner of expatriates in that part of the world of which the Indian is also a part of the imported intelligence.

Are u living in self denial?

A country that has an accountant general yet they pay foreigners to come and do their job for them! Is that not also an importation of foreign intelligence?

Most Nigerians that have not moved out from their various states in Nigeria now speaks in fake foreign accent, is that not also an imported mentality?

So you expected the indian man to take the imported items from his country e.g imported tooth pick back to his country as something from Nigeria?

The man said the truth, though the truth hurts but it remains the truth.

Nigeria itself is also an Imported country which is also a well known fact.

our fathers were able to call India poor country but my brothers dont try them now. they are far ahead of us. we are not even a thing compared to india is any field like technology, medicine, defense, agriculture or economy.

There are many of them in Ratcon Construction Company as young as age 23yrs, the company pays their salary directly to Lebanon and they only on allowances and they even live like king. With no basic education, they earn like six times of the Nigerian workers (Graduates), their English is as poor as mine and some of them can't even write the Arabic they speak. They are hot tempered and best known for smoking and eating garlic. I left the job in 2012 and that was one of the best decision of my life.
