I have been reading and was content with it till u started typing this rubbish. I am Igbo. I did all the work as a senior manager reporting to a Director who was a DMD in my multinational. I never for a day coveted his position even though i knew he was deliberately stalling my career growth. In line with what most reasonable people here have said, i did the job and let him take all the glory, that way i protected my job. A day came when he chose to resign and the Board did not think twice about elevating me. I did not become a Director but took over the substantive post that the man kept me acting for 3 years.

My point? Grow up and see things for what they are and stop being tribalistic. Today i have igbos and yorubas reporting to me and they do all the job i used to do then. My role is only advisory and supervisory now with direct interface to the MD, Chairman and the Board. Grow up small girl and also move around a bit and learn about other cultures.

The mouth is as important as the eyes, yet the eyes appears before the mouth on the face. The manager may have had some professional qualifications on his area of specialisation, which you are yet to have, which of course placed you where you are.

Check your character, check your temper, check your behaviour. If it gets obvious, you may lose your job. And mind you ur body language depicts one with a daggar to murder or the desire that the 'Manager' be eliminated so you take his position.

My advise is that you should be careful as promoting comes only from God, my cases is almost similar to yours but the difference is that I work in a multinational corporation which have many expatriates; I was initially employed as assistant manager with the manager being an expatriate but I never for once envied him but I rather put my best into all that I do.

The white guy left over 85% of his responsibility to me because he couldn't handle them, initially I felt resigning because I was the senior of all the managers (Nationwide) of the Nigerian company I worked with before I joined them and I always carryout my responsibility and even helping other managers & other staff that are stationed in & outside Lagos .

But by God grace & hard work I head that department in Nigeria with lots of expatiates working with me, even our branches outside Nigeria & our sister companies have me soughting out one thing or the other for them.

Please do your best & let God handle the rest: your company top management team might be watching & studying you in the anticipation of promoting you.

Exactly! That is why i stay away from Nairaland most times because it seems that its a breeding ground for people to spew tribalistic comments.

I also discovered lately that the Igbos don't understand anything about the Yorubas, the Yorubas dont understand anything about the Igbos and therefore bash each other based on the few people either side have ever interacted with.

I once asked a tribal bigot, how many people of the tribe he was busy bashing has he interacted with before in his 32 years on planet earth? and i discovered that he hasnt even interacted with 100k people of that tribe and he is casting aspersion on the other millions of people that made up the tribe based on the few.

Let me lecture you a bit, i have been working for 7 years employed as a junior staff and today a manager in a multinational company. When i started i was at the lowest level and doing a lot of work i believed was beyond my level bit i did it with pride. I was organising my dept leadership meetings and taking task everyone ran away from. I got promoted 3 times in 4 years and let me tell you that you don't get promoted easily in my company. I never for once complained to my bosses about magnitude of work i was doing nor ask ever for promotion, i did all task to the best of my ability and got results. One of my bosses told me once i was underutilised and he needed me to take more responsibility and authority.

Promotion doesn't come with bitterness and envy but hard work and integrity. Make sure yoy give your manager credits for all the good stuffs and take responsibility for those that goes wrong and see God's promotion.

I will advise you to calm down. Do your work to the best of your ability and one day , God that gave you the job will exalt and reward you..This has been my philosophy. No work wether good or bad goes unnoticed. I was surprised when a bike man gave me my work history one day. My boss visited my region behind my back and was asking people about me, he got very good report . he just had to call me and commend me.

I serve people. I have learnt one thing - hardwork is good but attitude and your relationship with people matters more. you can do all the work, but if you don't have good relationship skills- forget it.
