Catchfire1:Different police station in different area codes is an understatement. She should wait until she ends up being thrown into a dungeon simply because one's child was involved in a crime you knew nothing about and they can't find him ,instead they use the parents as a bait. I know two men from my village who shot their criminal sons to death and reported themselves to the authorities . 1 Like |

Questions, should be asked about the initial parenting technique used by the parents which lead the child to steal, a child does not decide to carry out such actions spontaneously. What type of relationship will that child have with his mother, as the humiliation cannot be undone. It will scar him over a long period of his life potentially disrupting his development, affecting his general levels of confidence, and the relationship he will build up with his peers. the child may begin to harbour feelings of hatred towards his mother. some of these factors could lead to the child becoming more isolated as he grows up, leading him to follow the wrong crowd, commit minor/major atrocities and also he would do this being discrete from family members as he recalls, how unruly he was punished for stealing at a young age. you bring up a child well, they would have no such reason to steal (especially such an amount) The mother is also indirectly humiliating herself, despite she thinking she is punishing the child. 1 Like |

5k is too much for a 9yr old to steal. He should be stopped now so his case wont be like that of the armed robber that bit off his mother's ear for not disciplining and stopping his petty theiving as a child. But there are other ways to punish well apart from physically harming/wounding the boy. Deny him breakfast for like 3 days... restrict him from watching tv and going out for anything not related to school, church or chores for a month... talk sense into his life every chance u get... reduce his break money for sch... let him fetch plenty water, sweep n clean floors alone for a duration of time... |

daretodiffer:It's a fifty fifty here. You have no idea what that woman saw that pushed her to take laws into her own hands. Do we even have the facility if she had taken the appropriate step by reporting that child to social welfare child support outfit where he's likely to be turned to a more violent criminal. I do agree that it was too extreme but hey! This is Nigeria , the infrastructures aren't just there to cater for such a child and even in the West where such kids are given a place to change they end up worse because once you begin to institutionalize a human being ,especially a child it changes their outlook entirely - How would a child feel in a Juve when he's seeing other kids runining around with their parents and being loved by their parents ? I can assure you that no emotional and palsychological damage is worse than a Juve or a foster home. The kid screwed up and mom overreacted and people should get over it and stop acting like they've got one silver bullet to solving the problem of thieving child. A 9 yr old stealing 5000 Naira all at once is outrageous my friend . |

darkenedrebel:I mean, a good upbring from the start could have prevented the boy from stealing. I'm sure this isn't the first time of him stealing. And the mother probably had overlooked it thinking he's still a kid, not know it'd get to this level. |

Wittgenstein: I concur with this! I would never forgive my mother if I was ever apportioned such treatment. Wisdom & civility should always be our watchword. I don't see how any of this barbarism would positively change the child. It would only make him a more tactical & careful thief. Adamu Adamu(minister of ED.) seriously needs to consider including parenting as one of the courses offered in colleges/universities. 3 Likes |

Jackrich: It is not a fifty fifty That boy would have discipline himself not to be display such tendencies. It is a vicious circle. She does not need social welfare. She needs to reflect on her parenting skills and try to understand her kid. 1 Like |

It is better for him to be punished than create wounds on him. Anyways i pray that would change him. I remembered when we were kids my twin brother stole one kobo from my mum's bag. She beat him till he fainted and since then even if you will kill him he will never change the position of something talk more of stealing it. though he is a full grown man now but he always thank her for that beating. 1 Like |

Mhizkel: Do you honestly think a boy of 9 years old would voluntarily pilfer 5k from his mother's purse?. My guts tell me it's peer pressure. What could he have possibly used it for? - coke? donuts? The most logical explanation is that he wanted to use it for "Naira/1960bet"(football betting) What she should have done instead is counselling, & probably ban him from seeing his friends for a while(who are likely to be the cause of his kleptomania) Even if it wasn't peer pressure, the manner in which she intended on setting him on the right path was totally wrong. That's the point I'm trying to make. @bolded__not necessarily. Good upbringing or not, if a child would steal, he would. What determines if he desists from or persists in the act is the correctional method employed by the parent. If it were overseas she could have been charged you know..for child abuse.. |

AlPeter: This is whats wrong with Nigeria and Most Nigerians right now... people like you don't understand the steps in solving a problem. Has this Solved the problem of the Kid... NO. what the mother has done is further ostricized the boy... he might turn into a Robber because he Has nothing to loose. steps to solving a problem: 1. Find the Underlying Cause of the Problem Intelligence is not Cheap... thats all I can donate to you. I know you won't become a Pragmatist but I'm glad I've sent you in the right direction. daretodiffer:I laugh at your ignorance. In my primary school then he would'v been beaten silly, stripped necked and have snail shells hung on his neck. Then he will dance naked from class to class with each class singing a special song for him. Guess what all the boys that experienced it were never caught stealing again in school. Infact once it happens to a person no one dares to steal again for a Looooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnngggg time |
Re: Woman Strips Her 9-Year-Old Son For Stealing N5000 In Delta (Photo) by Mhizkel(f): 2:03pm On Jan 28, 2016 |
darkenedrebel:You don't get my point, do you? The mother should have done something in setting him on the wrong part earlier before now. Now that she's doing it, is a total waste. He must have been stealing little amounts before proceeding to bigger ones. And during then, the mother attached no deal to it, thinking he's just a small boy. Even if it's peer pressure, the mother is to be blamed. There are certain duties a woman is expected to carry out in the upbringing of her child. A good upbringing doesn't neccessarily have to be the money aspect cos some from a wealthy background are into stealing. It's about teaching that child what and what not to do at a very tender age. At that time, their brain is still more complex and they tend to imbibe whatever it is they have been taught. You as a parent also need to help in knowing things about the friends they keep, play with, and so on. In so doing, then you got no problem. Not even stealing or whatsoever. |
