DankemzI:Bia bros, reforestation can be very beneficial. If i should trust Fayose's words on this, then i support him. For your Information, Ekiti state is largely rural with enough undeveloped lands- this will make Afforestation easier and more beneficial in the long run. 1 Like |

EKITI STATE JOBLESSNESS AND HIGH WAGE BILLS. I am challenging the governor of Ekiti State on job creation and his staff's wage bills. Are the people ready to work or interested in fish from the governor instead of asking him to provide them with material to fish. On wages, he should reduce the staff strength to reflect his revenue and increase the internal generating fund as is done in global market. He should task his communication department to let him know what is happening in other places to see how companies are laying off people. He should put sentiment aside and tell the people the truth. The President should shout louder about corruption until those corrupt individual return the looted fund and bury their head in shame. The governor should be on the look out for a webpage that is coming out soon on Nigeria Hall of Shame. 1 Like |

I will always celebrate Fayose's courage. Fighting corruption is good for the economy but we should give more attention to our fiscal and monetary policies in holistic manner instead of the reactive approach d CBN especially is using. We are yet to see any economic road map or blue print from d present govt. D CBN is simply been reactive instead of proactive. You come up with policies you cant test the sustainability that you end up struggling to keep d naira afloat. What's d rationale behind investing such huge scarce amount in oil exploration up north at a time d industry is not doing well. It's simply sectional. If you don't get people like Fayose to fearlessly challenge govt policies then the country is definitely doomed. D CBN Governor may however be working within d expectation of the president anyway in that he may have instructed him that in all he does he must not devalue the naira even if that d best 4 Naija at d moment. |

Fongido: This is where the problem is sir. The govt trying to do everything. In Nigeria, the govt tries to run and control every aspect and sector of the economy. That shouldnt be the job of the govt. We are not a communist country. The job of the govt is not to create wealth or businesses but to create an environment conducive for business to flourish and that includes creating infrastructure (roads etc) and services (water, electricity etc) and law and order. So the issue of exploring oil in your state should not be that of the govt but for private citizens. What stops an individual from taking a loan from a bank for oil exploration? This is one of the reasons why naija doesn't work. 1 Like |

Donpressman: I strongly disagree. The job of the govt is not to create wealth or businesses but to create an environment conducive for business to flourish and that includes creating infrastructure (roads etc), services (water, electricity etc) and law and order. One of our biggest problems is the govt trying to do everything. In Nigeria, the govt tries to run and control every aspect and sector of the economy. Unfortunately, the more they try to control everything, the bigger of a hindrance they seem to be to private enterprise. Have you ever asked yourself why Virgin left naija or the farmers from Zimbabwe? How can a federal govt be involved in almost every sector in an economy? From mining to power generation (and even distribution), from the media (NTA) to even banking. Abi, are we a communist nation? Please, do tell me , when has the govt ever being good at running anything? No wonder things hardly run well in naija. Almost everything the govt has tried to get involved with either fails or is of substandard quality: NNPC, Ajaokuta, electricity generation (NEPA), aviation. You would think they would have learnt their lesson by now. Another serious issue that Nigeria has is that the states depend on the fed govt for there survival. This is a form of welfare and its terrible. The states should be able to raise their own revenue by themselves through taxes rather than depending on allocation from the fed govt. In fact, i would go ahead and say that every level of government should be able to raise funds for themselves be it either the local government or the fed govt via some form of taxes and determine their economic agenda Instead of over dependence from the center. This how most countries are run and it is how you run a modern economy. Haba! No wonder Naija is such a difficult place to run a business. 1 Like |
