UGHELLI—PRESIDENT of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU), Comrade Benedict Oboidhe, has condemned the Federal Government’s plan to upgrade the National College of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, with the sum of N15 billion. This is contained in a statement signed by Comrade Oboidhe, which was made available to Vanguard in Ughelli, Delta State. The NADESSTU President in the statement said the proposed upgrade of the college and renaming to the Institute for Petroleum Policy and Strategy with the sum of N15 billion would amount to regional sentiments and undue regards for economic policies of locating firms and areas of manpower development close to source of raw materials. It read: “While we want to refute claims by the executive secretary of PTDF in the dailies that over 17 billion Naira has so far been spent to upgrade the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun. We want to call on President Musa Yar’Adua and the Executive Secretary of PTDF to reflect such acclaimed money spent on PTI as a true reflection of the visible infrastructures. “Further, such National College of Petroleum Studies should be relocated to the Niger Delta so that its admission policy should reflect the inhabitants of the Niger Delta for whom the impacts of the activities of oil exploration and exploitation affects, hence the money budgeted for such upgrade should be channeled for further upgrade of PTI and the Federal University for Petroleum Resources Effurun. “We wish to use this medium to call on the South-South governors, senators and stakeholders to seriously mediate in such issue as the effects, if left un-tacked, were enormous in the nearest future, even as those whose areas barely produce a drop of oil mount management positions in the oil industry hook, line and sinker,” it concluded. - vanguard |

Another set of potential militants peacefully advising the FG on the way to go. Unfortunately, the FG hardly listens to non-violent groups until they turn violent like MEND. |

:oThere goes another pipeline 4 draining naira. Ah, dis sick-looking mallam no hear word @ all. He has simply compensated his political allies at the expense of true resource control. we are heading 4 BIG yawa. I mean, how do u reconcile this? This oil is drilled in my backyard and u then empower a cattle rearer or an okada rider to further add insult upon injury? well i take it that they have struck oil there. because |

I must say I agree with nuzo. Y the north? how much more money will the FG spend on the north? as breathless rightly asked, have they found oil there? Setting up a PTI in the south (or upgrading an existing one) wud go really far and help cool the tension in that region, but no, our mallam president had to help his fellow catlle rearers. wetin koncain cow with oil? how much more money will he waste b4 he realises that A COW IS ALWAYS A COW! It is just simple common sense. If, as palmwine said, they are not capable of thinking, why not employ sum1 to do the thinking for them? I agree that we cant all be bright thinkers, but isnt that y they have advisers etc? May God help Nigeria! |

The student are right. Why channel their funds to the Kaduna to fund National College of Petroleum Studies when the oil are located in niger delta. The student are members of Mend and they can blow up the college anytime they wish. The gov must address it once and for all else the next news they will hear wont sound pleasant to their eyes |

Fellow nairalanders, I hv reflected on a lot of issues bordering on this entity called Nigeria from independence till date and have come 2 discover that Nigeria's main problem is the North; because they have seized power for so long, it baffles me how irrational and selfish they are. come 2 think of it, what and how does d North contribute to the economy of Nigeria (aside groundnut, tomatoes n cattles) yet the reap d chunk of the national treasury, hv better roads than any other part of the country + hv a larger allocation when it comes 2 ''federal character''. they r no longer concentrating on harnessing agriculture which they r blessed with 2 d good of the country, rather their eyes and efforts are now focussed on draining the resources of the south becos of selfish interest. In summary, the North is a parasite to Nigeria; had Biafra succeded, Nigeria will be no better than Niger republic--- this thread really annoys me. |

THE ESSENCE OF UPGRADING THE NORTHERN PETROLEUM COLLEGE OR WHATEVER INSINUATES THAT THE NORTH MAY HAVE DISCVERD CRUDE UP THERE, WHICH THEY WILL CONSTANTLY USE FOR LABOURATORY TRAINING. IF NOT WHY SHOULD A SENSIBLE INVESTOR LOCATE HIS COMPANY TO A PLACE WHERE THERE IS NO AVAILABLE RAW MATERIAL. IT IS TIME WE READ THE WRITTING WELL. |

Re: Delta Students Condemn Fg’s Planned N15bn Pti For Kaduna by sley4life(m): 11:31am On Jul 16, 2009 |
That is how foolish people reason. The corrupt politicians forgot wat they did while in fall walls of instituton & all they know is loot. Didnt they do economics. Why would they site petroleum institution in the north. They feel we are illiterates. The cowards should pay dearly for such foolishness. They would then site groundnut institution in niger delta to make us assume they are doing there best. |

Nothing goes for nothing so I believe MEND know what to do. Let leave the oil for niger delta. All state should depend on their resources. Let not use the Money from the south to fund the north. The northerners should use money realized from cattle rearing, groundnut and other stable crops to fend for themselves. They are 4kin lazy. They want oil money which cant be enuff if not properly utilized |

Mr President is an idiot, useless and a waste of my vote which i should have used to wipe my bum cause it didnt count! How can someone that doesnt know about defense be made minister of defense and when MEND blow up atlas cove thats when the idiot realised that the man is not specialised in that field , what is dora akunyili or whatever her name is doing in that sector instead of being minister for health? we were taught that closeness to raw materials helps a industry what d Bleep is kaduna receiving 15billion for ? is it to study their deserts and cow shit ? mr president is so dumb its annoying , i dont wish death for him but if he dies it will be good riddance to bad rubbish! just look at gov fashola, he is not a perfect man but i mean look at lagos in such a short time , with the little allocation the state gets its working towards a easy way of life . Nigeria is at its worst since i have known it , i dont support violence but if Niger delta people keep getting deprived they should go up north and bomb them bastards wherever they build anything worth 1billion from the federation account ! |
Re: Delta Students Condemn Fg’s Planned N15bn Pti For Kaduna by lonewolf: 8:39pm On Jul 16, 2009 |
If this is true, clearly, the Nigerian President is even more idiotic than I initially imagined. How do you invest so much money into a barren, unproductive state such as Kaduna, at the expense of the folks who actually have crude oil on their land? It is ill-thought out decisions of this sort that lead people to cry tribalism, and quite right so. |
