Is your keyboard working fine? Because a bad keyboard even if it is one key that is bad can make your laptop to malfunction.

If your keyboard is okay, go to device manager, locate the mouse driver, uninstall it and restart your laptop,it will come back.

Keyboard is working fine and btw I have updated the hid component driver…. Well I’ve vowed never to use Dell again after this it’s either Apple or Asus/HP

Dell is still one of the best brand out there,I prefer it to HP though because you will see a lot of refurbished HP out there unlike Dell.

In fact I plan on writing an article about it,there are so many refurbished HP products, Dubai is now the new China.

I thought it was only available on smartphones like Apple and Samsung but it is rampant on HP,many sellers are bringing in Dubai refurbished laptops into the market instead of buying from UK/US because it is cheaper there but then it comes with a lot of issues, they don't last long like some China products.

Concerning your laptop issue I'm not telling you to update,I said you should uninstall the mouse driver and restart your laptop it will automatically install back the required driver.

Sometimes will you just update drivers online, both the ones you need and the ones you don't will be installed and in some cases there will be conflict which can make your laptop to malfunction as well.

Hello Gurus.

This is going to be a long post, so please pardon me while you read through.

My laptop (Alienware m15 r2 2019) has this issued that is plaguing it.

I'm going to start with how it started.

About last 2 weeks, I was playing a game while plugged in, I monitor my temps while playing games, so I could see my laptop wasn't overheating.
Then it suddenly showed locking on the screen and turned off, I booted it up again, and I saw that the game(FIFA) was still at the spot I was it got turned off, like say I was at the 65th minute when the laptop turned off, when I booted it back on, after entering my password, the game was still on at that same 65th minute.

It did it like three more times, I shut down, disconnected and reconnected the charging cable, I was able to play about 3 matches.

After I was done, I disconnected the charging cable, few seconds it shows locking and turned off.

I booted it up again and used it to transfer a few files to the laptop, shortly after that, the laptop tripped off, it didn't show locking or anything, just tripped off.
I tried turning it back on, it powered on, but before I can input my password it trips off back.

I left it for about a whole day and a half, then I powered it on, I got a blue screen, saying windows encountered a problem while it shut down, I can't remember the exact words, so I clicked on exit and continue to windows 11.

I didn't get any random trip offs this time, I used my laptop for basic tasks for about 4-5 days, the issue didn't occur. I didn't game at all.

Now yesterday the issue came back, I was watching a movie when it tripped off on it's own. I tried powering it on again, before I could get into windows it tripped off.
So I left it for a while and later tried it when there was light by connecting the charger.

It was working fine, no trips, it was charging too, now I disconnected the charger, and about 3 seconds after it trips off, I did the same process twice and got the same result.

Now this is the part I have problem with, at first I didn't suspect the battery, I thought it was something else, now with the issue of yesterday, I'm suspecting the battery but this is where it gets confusing.

I checked my battery info using the command prompt, and the laptop came with a 76,000whr battery, what is left is 60,02 something, like 60k+ whr sha, so that's like 80℅ battery health, I checked the bios for the battery info, it says battery is performing well or something.

I opened my laptop, and disconnected the battery cable and reconnected it back, the battery didn't look bloated, the same issue still occurred.
Now I don't know if it's the battery anymore.

I'm just trying to get some insights, I would have taken it to a dell service center in Lagos but I'm not in Lagos right now and I can't trust anyone to fix this kind of laptop.

There's still chance for you to transfer your files before it gets completely damage.

Just don't power it on again, take it out,get an external casing am, insert the HDD in it and transfer your files to a new one.

What do you mean I can fix it myself?

I came to ask for insights now as to what the problem might be, you're saying I can fix it myself.

The reason I said I can't trust anyone to fix it is because of my location. There's nothing like a computer village in this state unless I'm in Lagos, I can't trust anyone in this state to fix it.

You already troubleshoot this thing, you connected it with the charger and such didn't occur, even after you taking out the battery and connecting it back it still occurs, whether it is 80% used or not shouldn't be the problem, you've seen what could be the cause, why don't you take it to an engr to test with another battery,at least you won't pay if fault is something else and you original battery will be place back.

It's simple, that's how you troubleshoot but at the end of the post you said you can't trust anyone with your laptop, that's why I said you should fix it yourself or wait till get to lag and then take it to the service center since spirit at the once working there. grin

If you feel offended,no vex abeg.

Okay, thanks for your comment although you still dey shade me low key.

Bro if you know the technicians in this place you would advice me to wait till I can get to Lagos.
I mentioned dell service center because I don't know of anyone who specializes in fixing alienware laptops in computer village, I'm sure there would be someone but since I don't know, I just thought the safe bet would be to take it to their service center in lag, funny thing is one of their service center is actually at computer village and that's where I plan on taking it.

I'm not saying I can't trust anyone, just the people at my present location.

These guys here can't do it, I know what I'm saying due to experience, I feel I would find the right people easier at Lag, you can't criticize me for that biko.

I want to ask a question, is it possible for the battery to show all signs of good working conditions and still be bad at the same time?

It's not bloated, it didn't swell up, battery health reports good and in bios it says functioning properly.

And also there's this low but tiny screeching sound I hear when I place my ear very close to the keyboard.
I don't know if that might be a problem related to it.

It is possible, probably a cell is bad and probably not making the bios on the circuit board in the battery compartment not to communicate well with the sio.

Since you can take the battery out and fix it back then troubleshooting this shouldn't be a big deal.

Locate a laptop battery dealer close to you, go there tell them you need the battery for the laptop, fix and test it there, you can test for 30mins as long as you have then intention to buy there shouldn't be a problem.

If after testing and you noticed it's still the same thing, you return it,after all you can't pay for what doesn't work.
You tested it on their presence and it's still the same issue but if it's working fine you can pay for it.

I'm suspecting the battery as well ,so I'll suggest you do this.

You'll need a BIOS programmer to do this and the knowledge of how to clear the password via hex editor.

It's a long process,I can help you fix it though if you're in lag.

Thank you very much.
