Over 1000 Generators!

I used to have a young teacher just fresh from Philosophy. He studied the course in the Seminary, which is about the only institution where philosophy is properly taught.

As a senior secondary student, he was shocked that at that age, I was already at home with philosophy and philosophers. At that time, I could quote philosophers like Lucretius, Anaximander, Bacon, Spinoza, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Gabriel Marcel, and many others with abandon. We became friends.

Because of his intellectual richness, I listened to him each time he spoke and penned down his arresting statements, most of which I still remember, of which one of them is: "Man is a being who retrospects into the past, projects into the future, so as to make a better present."

I have employed this to argue against those that are for the foreclosure of the past.

If the past is foreclosed, how would we remember past positive human actions that are edifying and are worthy to be used as role models?

If we forget past negative human actions, we would, as George Santayana said, be "condemned to repeat them."

We must remember the lives of geniuses and idiots to enable us know what to imitate or jettison.

I am sure dear readers are wondering were Val is heading to.

Well, today we accompanied the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi to the thanksgiving Mass of the Otis (Okwudili Oti) at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cath Church, Onitsha.

On seeing Chief Oti, I remembered the over 1000 generators the Government of Anambra State under Mr. Peter Obi bought for all the schools in Anambra State, what has not been done by any other Governor, past and present, in Nigeria.

The generators were necessary to power the INTERNET connectivity provided in all the schools in Anambra State under Mr. Obi.

We must remember such acts by past leaders to teach present leaders the way to go

Onitsha is a City that begs for state attention.

It is a City that does not have a proper regulatory body. Hence prone to calamity.

No proper building plan or sewage system, everything is just scattered.

For a city that generates so much revenue for the State, it is a shame the state cannot apply some of the policy for urban regeneration that we saw in Lagos under Fashola.

Onitsha is the most important City East of the Niger and should be accorded such regard.
