Spot on bro!

Honestly, I DON'T BLAME the militant groups that spring up from that region.

Just take a look at the picture Tonye attached!!! Isn't this wickedness I don't think those people have any source of clean water....

All soiled with oil!!!

Even if it will take launching a missile into Aso Rock, let them do it and have the government take up responsibility.

In this life when would people stop thinking with their feet* - Most of these so called oil spills, how do they come about? How many illegal refineries do you have scattered across the length an breath of the Niger-delta? Where do they get the crude from? See honestly speaking we should call a spade a spade, illegal refiners break crude pipes spilling crude and cause environment degradation, that is not to mean - the OIC's are not also responsible for some, but they the Niger-deltans are responsible for more* of the degradation happening to that area- that's all

We Igbos love Tompolo. Tompolo is greater than all Igbo men dead or living. Tompolo is greater than Ojukwu

I have warned You to do away with had drug, but you wouldn't listen, now this is one of the result. Because I don't see any reason why anyone with his right sense could vomit such a poo.

Their demands are not reasonable. What did asari and tompolo achieve after years of militancy? They ended up enriching themselves why leaving us to suffer with poluted lands...I am a delta boy and i dont support this situation anymore.

Why should I attack facilities In my region? Are they fighting with facilities that has prospect or the system? Why not take such to the govt in Abuja if you want to perpetrate carnage? Are you wiser than Tonpolo that denounced such struggle or others? which sane man would burn his father's house to mock his village chief? Why didn't the igbos agitating for Biafra blow up Onitsha bridge? Why don't you go burn your house or your mother's shop?
Bros, i am in full support with you on this NDA. Proudly Isoko, proudly Niger delta...you should also write on how our governors are useless after spending over 16 years in power

These avengers are being sponsored from the east thats why they are demanding release of nnamadi kanu as one of their bargain...Abeg, who kanu don epp??

Tribalism is our major problem in this country..Maybe it is best every region goes its own way...SE, SW, SS, NC, NW, NE all goes their own way just as the British, Scottish, ireland and wales went their separate ways...Just check NL alone, is enough to request for separation.
Re: The Niger Delta Situation And The Misguided Niger Delta Avengers Group by duality(m): 7:57pm On May 08, 2016
Some people don't know that without boko haram power wouldn't have returned to thethe north in 2015.

Without the militancy of the Niger delta before now. No body would have bothered about the Niger delta. In fact no body would have talked about it

Without the forceful agitation of Ipob some persons would have under estimated the resolve and the questions that needed answers.

Without the protest at Agatu and the retaliation at Aba and the outcry of Enugu, the FG wouldn't have bothered.

Without the Occupy Nigeria protest being forceful the removal of subsidy would have been done that time.

Without strikes government wouldn't have really bothered about anything regarding salaries and others.

The @Op, may have been correct to some extent but if his posture is so effective the region would have been like Abuja.

He is going into PDP politics abi. He'll learn that to get things in Nigeria, you have to be forceful, ruthless, militant and make everyone know that you can sacrifice anything to have your way.

Forget all these times we hail him on nairaland. He will soon know that "no body send you for this country"

I maintain that no amount of written Jornal, nairaland essay media talk will cause a change but with force or the threat to use force

If you think politics of convenience will work, sorry for you... Sabotage may not be good but the fact that sabotage is possible keeps stakeholders on their toes.

Apart from God's intervention, one of the reasons for present world peace is because different nations now have what it takes to hurt the other.

I've made my point.

No be lie my brother. Let's even leave oil. There are loads of FMCG / industries all over south west, yet I barely have read news where youths destroy facilities or demand for compulsory employment and CSR. Truth be told, these militants are lazy. I am not being tribal here but one of my friend do say there is this marine spirit that don't make them think right. Either they are asking for jobs they would not be committed to or they are asking for money to drink - still they won't go to school.

Violence is an enterprises in the Niger Delta. I am sure you can make a list of Niger Deltans who have become sudden billionaires by investing in violence. The terrain also makes it quite easy for the importation of arms from neighboring countries. Also, there is an absence of a true leader whom the youths can trust. Politicians too are part of those fuelling the crisis with their resort to violence to win elections. The weapons they buy to arm these boys to ensure their electoral victory cannot stay idle after victory has been secured. There must be a profound understanding of the problems and the political will to solve them. You, as a concerned Niger Deltan, can also pick up the gauntlet and take this message beyond the cyberspace to the creeks. Who knows, you might win a Nobel prize for bringing peace to the Niger Delta.
I am not sure violence has made more millionaires than Niger deltans who chose to take on the right path albeit difficult. I know loads of Niger Deltans who own oil service companies. Even if some of these criminals have legit businesses they were able to set up, they still can't do much. So what's the point.

Great work OP.
How i wish the Niger Delta yield to this in sincere heart, blowing oil facilities in already denigrating environment is very bad, peaceful protest and forcing the oil companies to stop working till their demand is care for would have been the best.
If FG decide to find alternative means to all resources gotten from them what will their fate be while oil companies were no more

Nice article but am I the only one who failed to notice that you neglected to mention that for the first time there is a sincere, honest and far reaching attempt to clean up the Niger-Delta starting from Ogoniland and this is being done by a President from one of the most Northern states in Nigeria. The sooner we understand that our so-called leaders in the Niger-Delta are the main source of our problems the better for us. Can you imagine Yoruba leaders condoning the kind of environmental degradation we see in the Niger-Delta??!!
Not just the leaders. The very well to do and filthy rich. I have lived in the Niger Delta for more than 16 years and I keep wondering with all oil companies around and indigenes that have made it from oil. Why there are still poor people from the oil rich communities. They blame it on the IOC. Hell NO!. Most times the CLO and intermediaries btw the communities and the company sabotage/ sell opportunities to non idigenes. While I was in the uni, I was approached by some guys and they offered to give me community slot for a scholarship by an IOC.I am not from ND. There were indigenes of that community in my class but they did not even know or have an idea this opportunity was for them, I refused. Have you ever read or seen where a yoruba man will kill his blood brother for election yet you see it happen in Rivers. There is no love here that's all I can tell.

You must have misread my post. I didn't not in any way suggest that there were more militant millionaires in the Niger Delta than those who made their millions through sheer hardwork. All I tried to make clear was that violence is a thriving business in the Niger Delta from which some people have raked in millions of naira. I guess that part of my post irked you. It wasn't intended as a denigration of the hardworking people of the Niger Delta.

you are almost correct but wrong at the same time...

Niger deltans are well educated now but still marginalised. ..I will give you a very good example..

Check out the IOC's and see the ratio of Niger deltans employed to non Niger deltans employed...or the ratio of Niger deltans who acquire omls to non Niger deltans...

It's crazy...I don support destroying our ecosystem but right now I still don't know how better our leaders can respond to the issues of people other than drastic measures like what the avengers have done...

Watch and see how the government would give no consideration to the new increase in minimum wage proposed by the NLC until violence is employed...We are a sick nation

You spent so much time calling Avengers misguided youth, than to reason if Niger Delta has benefited one day from the exploitation that started since 1956. Lagos and Abuja and every State Capital is built from the blood oil, yet Niger Delta is neglected.

One thing that baffles me so much is that almost all of you from the Niger Delta find it difficult to question your leaders' integrity. You are not bothered about your governors or even GEJ who despite the huge allocations have not taken you out of misery. Six years of Presidency and Ogoni waters are still polluted and East - West road is not completed. Instead, you youths have been brain washed to believe that their problems is from outside. You bomb oil installations and scare investors and construction companies away. More of you should embrace the truth like TonyeBarcanista. Maybe, just maybe, God in his infinite mercy will make you realize that Buhari is sincerely interested in cleaning up your self destructed land. Like Tonye asked, who in his right senses will burn down his father's house to spite the village head? A word is enough for the wise. I don talk my own.
