primus101:Yes it is possible. It all depends on the agreements made during negotiations. For example, the Murray Bruce family can decide to sell off their shares in the company completely and have nothing to do with it anymore. In cases like the example, Amcon would try and reposition the business, then sell it off too. 1 Like |

Bad debt. Closing the businesses would not bring money to the creditors. Trust me, it is all about recovering the money. Banks don't play with loans. He mocked governors who owed salaries but (together with a well-paid management team) could not service a loan. Baba, talk the talk, walk the walk. 3 Likes |

seunmsg: From the way you write, it is obvious that you have never managed a business in Nigeria . For your information, it takes a lot more than common sense to run a business the size of silverbird without foreign support and Government patronage in the midst of the inconsistencies in Government policies and the general macro environment in the country You need a lot of prayers, a bit of luck and the kind of long term funding Nigerian banks are unwilling or unable to give. Have you ever wondered why 80% of new businesses fail? Tell me 5 Nigerian businesses the size of silverbird that has survived over the years without Government patronage? I salute the courage of the likes of BMB ...... who have over the years, invested in a country where everything is against you. The greatest tragedy in all this is that there are Nigerians who are celebrating the demise of a Nigerian business because they do not like the Nigerian owner. Besides, the loan is well collaterised so it does not impact the survival of Union Bank in any way. |

SageTravels: The zero common sense man you are defending obviously don't know anything about throwing stones when he spew his common sense rubbish while throwing stones at other people everyday. And people like open mouth every day and all day about no light, bad roads, bad schools, bad hospitals and lousy infrastructures, but you still support and defend the same people who denied you these basic benefits by denying you funds needed to better your life while they live a better life with your moneg. He took N11billion, the next man took N10 billion and another took N20 billion, what do you the taxpayer and common man have left to live on? Sometimes I wonder about you people.. 4 Likes |

Aspireahead: 1. He was the DG of NTA. Learn about issues being discussed before jumping in to spew and ask ignorant questions.. 2. I did not say the loan was taken under GEJ, you made that up. Learn how to read and comprehend simple English words. Btw, even while owing Nigerians N11billion, GEJ still made him the DG of FRCN after the terrible job he did at NTA. 1 Like 1 Share |

But his supporters did not tell us d company is being run by AMCON, they said it had been reopened after all the issues had been resolved. If UBN had collapsed, over 6,000 direct employees and more than double that figure indirect staff would have lost their livelihood. With its attendant effects on their dependants. Now, telling us tales of how he employed 1000 people as a justification for defaulting on his obligations is absurd.Indeed, shame no dey dis country. 2 Likes |

TippyTop: Owing billions is not the issue here, don't let ignorance and hatred kill you. It's failure to pay or meet agreed terms of payment over a period of time. If Dangote is not failing in his loans terms, no matter how much he owes nothing happens to his companies. These Big borrowers who fail to pay are the killers of banks since the 80s. While the bank's money is in the hands of these elites, and the banks have govt money, they didnt care about funding small businesses. This is a major reason our economy is weak and unemployment is everywhere and everybody is depending on govt for everything. Now that govt has taken it's money from the banks they are now left to fight to recover their loans. No more shakara as before they either start doing real banking business or fold up. 2 Likes |

We wouldn't know if he's servicing the loan or not but expect him to be arrested with trumped up charges the day he dare criticise the dictator. quit your hatred we'd be objective. it is going to make your life more easier. please answer this few questions : did BMB borrowed money or not 2: his he servicing the loan or not. 3: is the Amcon take over legal? if all your answer is yes, then u need to shut up a bit for now till you have something meaningful to say. #witchuntcorroptpeople for the sake of Nigeria 1 Like |

Are the businesses worth 11 billion ? If they default on repayment, then they should be evaluated for their worth, if they are worth up to 11 billion, they should be sold. 1 Like |
