Nigeria buys F-7 fighters from CHINA
The first batch of Chinese made F-7 fighters purchased by the Nigeria Airforce is due to arrive the country early next year, Daily Trust learnt in Abuja yesterday.

A source in the Nigeria Airforce (NAF), who spoke exclusively to Daily Trust, said that already, the Airforce and the manufacturers of the fighter aircraft in China are fine tuning the process of acquisition of the F-7s. Daily Trust also learnt that some Nigeria Airforce pilots will soon be sent to China for training on the F-7 fighter plane.

The source did not reveal the number of fighter planes expected, as he said the Russian made Mig 21 jets which have been used by the NAF for decades are now being completely phased out, hence the need for the Chinese made jets.
"We are expecting the first batch of F-7 fighter planes from China in the early quarters of 2009. We can not say how many they are going to be, but we expect them to be about ten in number," the source revealed.

12 WERE ORDERED and the first batch was delivered in mid- 2009,this is what the fighters look like below. .

The F-7/J-7 is an upgraded version of the Soviet MiG-21 interceptor, with modernized avionics and weapons and a slight cranked-wing configuration.

I know what you mean. You're like a sort of ignorant arrogant native laughing uproariously at the ridiculous man who tells him about the consept of aeroplanes.

Actually, the weapons posted if anything are too sophisticated for the purpose for which they were bought, which is warfare in the African theatre. The corruption that exists in arms procurement is another argument. In fact, I don’t believe I’m stretching credibility to any great extent by suggesting that most black African armies would struggle against a European first world war force. In most black African wars, Nigeria need only employ well-trained men, logistics, rifles and sam-pipes.

Callling me ignorant, arrogant or native because I disagree with you is hardly a sign of sophistication. I didn't realise there are separate weapons for African theatre, sorry , my mistake. And I am wondering if Cameroon will count as an African theatre, when their gerndermarie murdered 17 Nigerian civilians in a cold blood in Bakassi last week without any response from you well equipt military?

Sentiment llike yours is the reason that Nigerian rulers take the masses for fools. They will purchase out of date weapons for their military but will always be up to date with their presidential fleets and fleets of bullet proof limousines.
The weapons in the  picture are not for Equatorial GUINEAN ARMY BUT FOR THE SO CALLED GIANT OF AFRICA. And that is the point of this argument

You see, that is exactly my point, you just go to the internet and copy stuff and make up stories. The last picture you posted is British fighter jet and that picture is taken from the British airforce base in Aldershot Surrey, just two miles from my home. Don't just post anything, thinking everyone is a fool or you can get away with it.

Not impressed one bit! You can only modify an old fighter jet for so much. When the Americans wanted to replace the world class F-14 Tomcats (real powerful interceptors!) they REPLACED them with a breathtaking interceptor called the FA-18 Hornets! Talk about class act! These are legendary interceptors. Nigeria is not a serious country. So, I won't care what they get from where.
The Camerounians are making hay in Bakassi and Nigeria is busy showing off outdated military hardware. Sighs and shakes head!

Eziachi:

And I am wondering if Cameroon will count as an African theatre, when their gernderm murdered 17 Nigerian civilians in a cold blood in Bakassi with any response from you well equipt military.

But what you’ve stated is part of what I mean. Modern warfare is so complex now I’m not sure if anyone can make a convincing argument what sort of weapons are the right ones. Except for nuclear capability, nothing seems final.  The gernderms who killed our people would have done so had we owned Euro-fighters –for one thing Cameroon are embolden   because they think they can count on the French – so they wouldn’t be deterred by fear of a militarily up to date Nigeria. Therefore, I feel that it is pointless over-analyzing the equipments posted. America like the soviets befor them could put an end to the Afghanistan situation with nuclear weapons but the delicate international balance and moral constraints prevent them. Likewise up-to-date military weapons would still struggle in Somali, Congo, Sudan where people drive up an down dusty roads with machine gun mounted bicycles. It seems to me, therefore that well trained soldiers, logistics and determination are  the most vital quality , heavy equipments are nether here nor there and can be purchased when required.  This is why the criticism seems odd. People may disagree but it seems to me, personally, that modern warfare has left the old arguments behind.
Re: Tribute To Nigerian Military In Pictures by Onlytruth(m): 10:45pm On Dec 03, 2009
Also note that they are sending pilots to China to learn how to fly the aircraft. In the Soviet days, they sent them to Soviet Union. A 50 year old country can't even produce a war plane. Tells you all you need to know about Nigeria.

normally i wont talk

my discharge certificate says i had 17years in the army

first off, the pix of those aca boyz planting is priceless. . . . .

let anyone here attempt it for 5mins. . .even without the stones!!!!

if you survive that, we can proceed to the hanging up part

now for those calling our weapons useless, where do i start?

the AK47 was and is still the most effective rifle around

30 rounds, hardly ever jams

the Chinese have a clone of it

the Americans use the m16

it isnt a bad rifle , and it has good night optics

but that is yankee

the AK47 with a killing range of over 300 meters

and effective of over 600 meters is wonderful

now the GPMG(general purpose machine gun)

fires over 1000 rounds per minute range over one click

till date is guaranteed to keep hostiles at bay

no matter what they are carrying, cept they call for an air assault

or for artillery bombardments

the average soldier may not be technical

but physically dominating

no fancy weapons, but effective on the job

during peace operations the fear of the Nigerians is the beginning of wisdom

we terrorized the rebels so much in sierra loane ,that they went looking for nigerian citizens

every country has it setbacks

i also laugh at a comment pegging the military at 100,000

if you dont know shit, go spew elsewhere

irrespective of where the troops location is

the one major factor is deployment

and i can assure you , the nigerian army is at par with the rest of the world in deployment

with this said i rest my case

at poster

nice one. . . .

this is a real motivating thread

thank you

can you imagine the cost of spare parts Why can't the Nigerian government use Nigerian Engineers and Scientists to invent and
improve this technology?  Nigerian Engineers read the same textbooks as Chinese Engineers so why? Nope, instead they will use these contracts to embezzele and reduce the Nations defences to a JOKE.
Re: Tribute To Nigerian Military In Pictures by Chongaiman: 12:23pm On Dec 04, 2009
We must not delude ourselves on being at par with the US or other developed nations. Such countries with large economies up to150 times larger than ours can afford their pick of weaponry.Yet, the US with its sophistication is yet to capture bin Laden or completely pacify Afghanistan while the Western navies off the coast of Somalia are yet to counter the threat of piracy there. In warfare, the most important asset a country could own is adequate manpower. That's one the reasons why the then U.S.S.R. despite losing more than 20 million citizens could eventually overcome Germany. It is a pity some people are clamoring for sophisticated weapons while they are yet to have electricity, tarred roads or portable water supply in their hometowns. How would the purchase of an Apache helicopter add any meaningful value to your life? Come to think of it, which country can be said to be a threat to Nigeria to warrant her stockpiling armaments? That sketch showing locations of barracks in Nigeria is highly inaccurate. It is very different from the locstast (location statistics) of installations and units of the Nigerian Army. If a unit is located in particular part of the country, does that guarantee such a unit being commanded or staffed by citizens from that area? The fact is that the Nigerian military is respected worldwide. If you doubt, you can confirm from the D.P.K.O. of the U.N. Are you aware that the Liberian president would allow no other contingent of U.N.M.I.L. other than Nigerians to be her escorts and guards? The AK47 is acclaimed to be the most reliable rifle in the world. It practically requires no maintenance unlike the rifles used by N.A.T.O.

The picture above is very wrong.

This is the true F-7. It isn't modern.

what do u mean its not modern? the f-7 has varous variants, but its biult off of the j17 fighter i posted on there
there are f-7N1 which is what nigeria is buying, there are more than 20 different variants flown by airforces from nigeria, pakistan india, china and so on
for the chinese this plane forms there backbone for air defense against the U.S and u come here and misyarn
mind u these planes are being built from scratch for nigeria, its not off the rack, its not second hand so why are u claiming its not new?
go to the l;ink below and read about the plane and stop derailing my thread

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chengdu_J-7

this plane is equivalent to the f-16,in terms of ability to defend the homeland against an f-16,
but it costs about 10times less, isnt that what we want?
an f-16 costs about $250million for 1,why would we be buying f-16s when no country around us even has an airforce?
it doesnt make sense, again read the link and see the countries at war like pakistan, india, sudan, namibia, egypt, and so on that fly a variant of this plane

In the Iraq war the Iraqis did'nt even bother to use their 90 F-7 aircrafts against the Allied forces, it would be a complete waste of time.  So what can Nigeria do with 12 (some are even trainer jets)?
