I stand with Amaechi on this issue. Safety measures require the government and contractor to shut down the airport for the period of repairs. We apologize for the inconveniences caused the public and stakeholders.

Let us do an hypothetical repairs as proposed by some smart Alec to work at night. Let us say the Abuja runway is 2Km, and we carry out repairs on a section, 100m at point 880m on the runway. Below are the issues that come up:

1. Would that section completely cure before the next morning?
2. If it is not cured enough, can it then support the load of a laden aircraft?
3. Would it be safe for an aircraft to be landing on a runway where you are not sure can support your weight?
4. Should the section give way and an accident occurs, would you not have to then close the same runway/airport?

Some things aren't rocket science, but it is the politics in Nigeria that is definitely the problem.

I think the real question should be, why an international airport of Abuja's caliber have only one runway?
