The second case has 'they' which is a third person plural and as such, it takes a plural verb which is obtained by writing the verb in its simple present without adding 's'.

There is no way an individual will become a formal professional, trained in Nigeria, that if he can't write well in English, he can ever be taken serious because if he actually passed through the necessary training, he should have mastered English language which is the medium of instruction.
