Hardly anybody who didn't know Buhari was planning a coup. It was common gist then.

Umaru Dikko even made Shagari send Buhari to far way Jos. Far away from the strategic Ibadan command.

Solomon Lar (Plateau State gov then) even confronted Buhari with the rumors shortly after Shagari's state visit to Plateau. Buhari flatly denied and even asked to be sacked if not trusted. IT WAS ALL BOBOS. But they believed him. The Western Germany president sabi lie too.
