Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has blamed Islam for the violence plaguing many African countries.
The 93-year-old Mugabe was on a panel discussing fragile states at the World Economic Forum on Africa in Durban, South Africa on Thursday when he said some countries on the continent are destabilized by religious influences, News 24 reported.

After stating that splits within the Christian church did not lead to violence, Mugabe said: “In the Islamic world, the belief is that the more violence you exert on the population, the more they listen.

“In Africa you also had a touch of the Muslim world in some countries, but in the south it wasn’t our experience, thank God,” he said.
Nearly 84.5 percent of Zimbabwe’s population of 15.6 million people is Christian with an estimated 1 percent Muslim, according to the 2015 International Religious Freedom Report by the U.S. Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.

The Islamic Welfare Organization based in the capital Harare has not responded to a request for comment on Mugabe’s remarks. Mugabe also denied Thursday that Zimbabwe was a fragile state. “Zimbabwe is the most highly developed country in Africa. After South Africa, I want to see another country as highly developed,” he said.
Mugabe added that Zimbabwe has 14 universities and that the country’s literacy rate is above 90 percent.
“And yet they talk about us as a fragile state,” Mugabe said. “We have a bumper harvest, not only maize, but also tobacco and many other crops. We are not a poor country. If anyone wants to call us fragile, they can. You can also call America fragile.”

Mugabe, who has ruled the country for 37 years, acknowledged last year that Zimbabwe was in the midst of a financial crisis and said the country was in a “critical time... for regime change,” according to the African News Agency.

The World Bank said in April that, although Zimbabwe’s economy is expected to grow by around 2 percent in 2017, extreme poverty “is projected to have risen substantially.” At least 21 percent of the population lives on less than $1.90 a day.

It is very possible but nobody should dare relate it with the situation in Nigeria, here in the Niger Delta the militants, kidnappers, political assasins, cultists are not people of a certain religion so nobody should dare blame religion for our problems....

I'll start by saying..

Mugabe has always been right. Despite the constant demagoguery, boycott, embargo etc. imposed on him by the "compassionate" west to bankrupt and create chaos, Zimbabwe still stand. It is not perfect but you do not have the "Boko Haram" type of Islamic fronted anarchy , "Somalian kind of thuggery and piracy", famine, exodus of refugees and mass human sufferings afflicting Zimbabwe speaks for itself. The reason Mugabe is getting a bad rap; vilified incessantly by the usual propaganda machine from "regime change" promoters is because he would not yield or submit to them. He is not willing to trade his people to be Africa's slaves again under the excuse of bringing "human rights, democracy, free speech etc".

To be honest, Zimbabwe is only a 'failed state' because of sanctions. Otherwise, even with the crippling sanctions they are better off than even some European countries. The biggest issue here is the west not able and capable of dictating to Mugabe or use him like they do with others. And of course the kicking out of white farmers who claim to be Zimbabweans only to run back crying foul to England shows where their loyalties lay. So England gets mad because Zimbabwe is not going to kiss white behind. They then colluded with others to impose those sanctions. Zimbabwe is still the most educated country in Africa because they don't have Muslims who are backwards in their thinking. Unlike Nigeria where Muslims population is almost 45% of the entire population, Zimbabwe glory in its 1% of this group. Christians groups also do have misunderstandings here and there, but you wouldn't see them killing people all in the name of religion. Nigerian Muslims, especially the Nortthern sects have been doing this since time immemorial. Ponder on this and you would come to agree with President Mugabe. I rest my case.

The interesting part to me is his claim that the economy of Zimbabwe is second to only South-Africa, Nigeria is really a sleeping giant.
