When Fidel was ill they issued statement after statement.  Eventually they produced footage of a somewhat thinner President conversing with members of the government.  In the end there was a peaceful transition of power from Fidel to Rafael and we still see interviews and footage of Fidel.

This current situation and the lack of information makes a mockery of any supposed democracy we have.  It's an insult to right thinking Nigerians.

NLers, so much for this talk about Yar' Adua being mad. If he were mad, it woulda been better. Rumour has it that d Commander-in-chief is brain-dead.   

A brain-dead man is someone who cannot breathe on his own without a mechanical ventilator (i.e. life support or heart-lung machine) due to loss of vital brainstem reflexes (which includes spontaneous respiration) as a result of irreversible and extensive damage to brain tissue. All brain function is lost (patient loses awareness or consciousness, sth called a vegetative state, no voluntary movement, patient cannot see nothing although eyes may remain open etc).

The moment such a person is off d ventilator, he cannot breathe spontaneously, so other body tissues will not have oxygen to utilize and CO2 accummulates. Patient dies 'officially' within minutes.
In short, technically speaking, being brain-dead is synonymous with DEAD. NLers take note.

This is Yar' Adua's supposed state. I guess Turai and her cohorts are in denial. Keeping a brain dead chap on life support is just like keeping him in a glorified morgue. Let them disconnect the 'shege' jor. The worst has happened.

I thought Sahara Reporters' web site reported this about a month ago and no one believed it.

If these people had any brains at all, Yar’Adua could have built and staffed a very good specialist hospital in Abuja and even add a presidential wing to it. When he collapsed last Nov, his journey to the emergency would have taken five minutes rather than the hours it took to fly him to Saudi Arabia. Who knows how much damage was done to his organs during the long “emergency” flight to Saudi land?
