The reason why people speak like that is because of the Nigerian educational system which is designed to producing students who graduate but who know not how to think in a whole system, who can't decipher the root causes of events, who are narrow minded, who can't separated what is trivial from what is important, who lack rational thinking.

When one actually traces the roots of this Nigerian Educational System what one finds is a programming which has been so since the times of the Colonial Masters who brought what people pride themselves with today as being 'EDUCATION'. Unlike India, who were also colonized by the same British, but today have advanced far, far, far ahead. A country of MULTITUDE TRIBES AND RELIGIONS. Is a giant in technology today.

Nigeria's educational system as designed by the colonial masters made RELIGIOSITY its corner stone. What does religiosity does if not turn people to IRRATIONAL BEINGS as Nigeria has been till date.

Teacher education was first introduced in 1896. The first formal education in Nigeria was St. Andrew's College Oyo, which was established by the Church Missionary Society (CMS). The aim was to enable the learners to aquire literacy numeracy skills for the purpose of envagelization and book keeping. Not how to RUN a country to producing bread but for "DAILY BREAD FROM HEAVEN".

THE CORNER STONE OF THE NIGERIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM WAS SET ON RELIGIOSITY NOT RATIONALITY. A MAJOR REASON FOR THE COUNTRY'S BACK WARDNESS.

That's my alma mater. I still have friends there including lecturers, post graduate students, and those based within the university community.

ABU is cosmopolitan, yes, I have always said that even here. But what you fail to understand is that this ABU is not the one of old, especially with the arrival of Ibrahim Garba as VC.

Recruitments are now done based on religious affiliation, just as gaining admission now depends on your religion or who you know. You should see the incompetent lecturers they recruited of recent, all in the name of having their own.

Religious bias has insidiously infiltrates your thoughts and behaviour. If not tackled, this will spell the beginning of the end for ABU as we all know it.

ABU stood tall due to its cosmopolitan nature, but all of that is changing now. If not checked, the institution will fall back into the same class as the likes of BUK and UDUS.

Tarrrrrrr, BUK is still standing tall, it may not be as cosmopolitan as ABU bt atleast they tried. We do have lecturers from other ethnic groups and religion also. They also admit many students from d south also.
What will you say about university in the south that are usually monolithic in terms of students admitted and staff recruitment especially in the east, same with south west bt dey are a little bit better than eastern university?
